Oh dude, because maybe they realised some people wanted to end the story with Control or Synthesis. That doesn't suddenly mean sequel has to goddamn consider them. Just like in any random Star Wars game you had Dark Side/Light Side endings in which case Light Side was always the cannon one and people don't whine about it.
Except KotOR 2. But that worked badly enough to prove your point.

The universe is what made mass effect great, shepard was just one generic story being told their, ven in ME1.
Afterall, how unique and interesting is the tale of the chosen one soldier who has to stop a massive threat and works mostly on his own or with is squad cause the higher ups don't do anything and can fight waves of enemies like nothing?

My last decision and some basic stuff needs to come through and no 'last breath' BS or inevitable synthesis. Unless its a prequel and actually an RPG, in which case, I don't need to worry and I will pre-order. Hey, I have standards but prequel is just enough to overcome that with pretty new Mass Effect.

Actually I'm glad they won't be bringing Commander Shepard back. He may be my favorite video game protagonist, but it is also time for him to ride off into the sunset. He has already saved the galaxy, what else is there left to do? Also in a galaxy with trillions of people, there is plenty of room for more than one hero.

It has not been a cliffhanger since post-ec.JohnShepard12 wrote...
They could start a new story if only they had properly ended the last one. A cliffhanger is not an appropriate ending to a trilogy and never will be.

For once I have to agree with dreman.
Whether or not you liked the EC, it didn't end in a cliffhanger.

If you choose destroy, Shepard's story is not ended. I choose destroy and always will. There is a cliffhanger. It's inarguable.dreman9999 wrote...

That isn't a cliffhanger.
Take the Western movie genre as an example. The cliched ending for many of those movies was the white hat (hero) riding off into the sunset at the end of the movie, after having defeated the black hat (villain) in a duel. We don't know what happens to the white hat after that, he just disappears over the horizon and we never hear from him again. That isn't a cliffhanger however, because the plot of the film is resolved and the villain vanquished before he rides off into that sunset.

Laying in rubble and taking a breath =/= Riding off into the sunset

Warden: Disappears and never heard from again
Hawke: Disappears and never heard from again
Revan: Dead/Disappeared/Imprisoned/what have you
Shepard: Dead or Ambiguous speculation of dead or alive at the end of Destroy
Anyone else see a pattern here?

Yes it is a cliffhanger-that kind of thing has been used before in of all places, Soap Operas. One of the oldest soap opera stories is some well-liked character on a Friday show being thought dead from an explosion at a gala event and then the episode ends with a view of the character's body laying in rubble taking a gasp. I've watched plenty of these shows over the years and seen this done repeatedly (All My Children-gala event and a twister hits, another time an explosion at a Ball, Young and the Restless, General Hospital, they've all done it). One of their other favorite cliff hangers is car crashes where you see the person laying in debris and hope someone will find them-it usually ends up with a stranger finding them and amnesia.
This is one of the most often used cliffhangers of all time. In fact, I recall movies and soap operas where someone did fall off of a cliff and land on a ledge-maybe dead, maybe alive.

Bioware has an odd habit of sending off their protagonists:

Yes, everyone likes to use Disney as an insult but here it seems they took a page from Disney but Disney did it better. Every Disney cartoon I watched from the time I was little had usually back then the mother of the character die or be dead (now they use fathers too) and the child (cub, fawn, elephant) grows up and goes onto better things. BW decided that the immolation or just loss of the hero was cool-someone has issues.

This all happened because the Canadians had to hitch a ride on an American rocket to get into space. Could they be content with kicking our asses in hockey every year? Nooooooo. Oh well, I'll forgive them this time. Just name the next one after a Canadian war hero or someone like that.
Kill off my avatar once. Shame on you. Kill off my avatar twice. Shame on me.

I`m certain I`ll buy ME4, there`s so much stuff to repair and maybe we find a real super-race this time.
