I got it to 7 last night but last time I used it..... I kinda hated it. I hear some people like it though, why?

I got it to 8 the other day and decided to give it a go. Played Giant with N7 demolisher. Arc grenade the pick people off. Was really fun. Even without the arc nades that gun is super powerful now. Only a few maps I would use the Javelin in tho, Giant and Dagger being the top 2.

It's an amazing boss killer. 1 shot kills Brutes, Ravagers, Scions, and any lower mook. 3-4 shots kill Banshees, Primes, Atlases and probably Praetorians, and it's got an amazing native penetration. The only class I'd use it on is GI though, but still well worth using.

Give it all of the penetration you can muster (armour piercing, high velocity, drill) Go on to a large map, and shoot people through all the walls (the scope adjusts to your level of armour piercing). Laugh since no enemy can see you. Works well on Giant, there are almost no walls that you can't pierce with that amount of equipment. Great on other big maps too.

Pro tip, the purple effect on the enemies that show up from the scope lasts about a half second after you descope. So scope and unscope in different directions to see where all the enemies are.

If it shows up in purple through the scope, it can be hit.
Stick a bunch of AP stuff on it and mess with it, try and find some stuff you can't shoot through.

Double Armor Pen Mod on gun + Drill Rounds + Sniper Rifle Rail AMP 3 + Sniper Damage Gear or Headshot Gear.

thanks.  i didn't know either of these things.

@OP: i loved the javelin once i learned to headshot.  it's so satisfying to land them.  the problem i had with the delay was that the tension in my hands would increasingly skew my aim as i held my mouse button (playing pc, obviously), so when the javelin finally fired, 0.25 sec after i wanted it to, my aim was way off.  i could hit body, but not head.

then i learned to breath slowly and focus on staying relaxed while using it.  instead of pounding on the mouse button and screaming "fire, damn you!" while it warmed up, i imagined that i was reaching out and touching the mooks on the head with my finger, and it took 0.25 sec to complete that action.

now that i can shoot it accurately, the satisfaction of landing those shots is even better than the boss killing damage.

It has a whole metre of innate penetration, so the AP stuff is more if you want to screw with things, shooting them through most walls and the like. I usually put Extended barrel and Spare shots on mine, just so I don't need to run for ammo as often.  Armor penetration stacks however, so with Drill rounds IV, you should be able to pierce about 4 metres of cover.

If you don't like the base scope for it, the thermal scope functions similarly, without the ability see through walls based on penetration.

It can one shot the vast majority of enemies in the game now. It also wrecks bosses. It has a scope that lets you see through walls and tells you if you can hit the target.

I agree with what the others said. Put a heavy barrel and more clips on it, equip drill rounds and let the other guys enjoy the orbital strike.

At X, I just run it with a barrel and piercing mod, not the HVB. I want my SI to have some semblance of power cooldown. If you don't care so much about cooldown, just go with HVB and AP mods. Disruptor Ammo, Warp Ammo or Phasic Ammo is best for it. With Phasic you'll guaranteed one shot most mooks, body shot or headshot. You could probably one shot a Phantom with a headshot. Mind you I'm talking about gold.

With cloak damage bonuses (no consumables) it will 1 shot even shielded enemies like the Marauder or Centurion on gold. Javalin X can 1 shot a brute again with cloaks damage bonus.

Took a bit of getting used to for me, especially with the shot delay but it really is a beast of a weapon now.

the shooting thru walls can be fun, but the weapon is at maximum effectiveness when you are using ammo, damage and warp rounds 4 on a GI

I'm coming to prefer the BW, but the javelin is nice for shooting through cover and killing things in one shot. On infiltrators though, I tend to fire one clip per cloak cycle. On the javelin that means waiting through a normal reload before I can cloak, but on the BW it takes longer to fire the clip, so I can use TC to reload cancel. The BW already has higher dps, but with reload canceling it gets a lot higher (though I'm not sure if all 3 rounds end up being covered by the TC damage bonus.)

First time i tried it, i hated it. Then i never used it again. Yesterday, with my javelin IV and GI (i'm a noob with that class), i tried a solo silver. Oh my god, the first time i never use medigel in solo silver. I love the javelin now, give it a high velocity barrel + thermal clip + Drill round, oh my... I don't see walls anymore.

Now i unterstand how awesome is hunter mode.
