Hi Derek.

Do you have a preferred color to make your characters armor? (Hot pink krogans?)

What other games do you guys on the dev team play?

I'm not so bold.  I usually go black with red or blue highlight.

We play a variety.  It keeps us thinking and we do appreciate what other developers are introducing to the market.
X-Com is a big one right now
Borderlands 2 has been fun
Torchlight 2 also keeps me occupied at times.

Many others as well Image IPB

It's great to see such a wide variety of genres and styles to choose from.

oooooooh  x-com.  how is it?  i loved the crap out of the first two (mostly the second one... underwater.)

I LOVE that even if we get disconnected from the game we get to keep our progress towards challenges made during that game. That's brilliant.

Is there any chance that the same concept could be applied to experience and especially credits so once they are awarded, the awrad is effective immediately & we get to keep them?
I've probably lost over a million credits from being disconnected from games...

Out of curiousity why wasnt this done from the beginning?

One general thing avout the forums: i love the bioware button that lets us read dev responses only (very useful in this threaad!!!!) but it doesnt work on iphone and ipad in safari at least.  Could you change it so ot works or suggest an alternate mobile browser this feature does work on?

Questions about the store: does there being ultra rare characters now (volus) decrease our chances of getting a urare weapon?  Ex: this would be true if store rolls to see if we get a urare card then rolls to see which one..  If we have a maxed rare card, we get rare ammo instead.  What happens if we have maxed urare character and we roll that card again?

Right now i think urares, rare gear and promotionals take too long to unlock. I love weekend ops.

If you could make any changes to the store you wanted without technical limitations what would they be?
Thanks for doing this thread.  No problem if you cant answer all of this.  Id be happy with those you can answer

This was probably already asked, but I don't feel like going through 25 pages of posts to make sure.

Derek, can you shed any light on text chat for PC? Is it something you guys have or are considering implementing? Some official word on it other than a vague "maybe" would be great to hear, or at the very least your personal opinion.

I've been enjoying it so far.  Had fun mind controlling ethereals and making them drop psychic rifts on their friends.  Also really glad I've never been using grenades when I run into ethereals or sektoid commanders.

Loving X-com right now. It is a good juxtaposition to ME3 MP.

Which kit is your favorite in that game?

I'm torn between assault and snipers. Assault was my favorite but the sniper's last two abilities really upset that balance.

Hey Derek I was wondering if there was a reason why the adepts and sentinels have the same look for the male and female version? Was this done to show a military type uniform to the armor or something?

Considering matches are peer to peer, it really comes down to host to client issues.

I do wish we had more power over the internet.  I really do.

Me too! Well thanks for replying, but all the issues started after the Earth DLC patch released and there are many topics about it as well, anyways I wish you guys could take a look into this problem and hopefully have better servers for ME4.

There was a rumor before retaliation DLC was released that a new online mode for MP was in this works, is it possible that we may receive new game modes in future DLC releases?

Hey Derek!

Just thought I'd drop you a line to say thanks for an amazing job on ME3's multiplayer.  I've been playing since launch and I'm loving it!  I'm looking forward to seeing where you guys and gierls at Bioware go from here, because in my opinion it's a lot more fun and a lot more enjoyable than a lot of the big name multiplayer games out there.

With thoughts to the far-flung future - what do you think the possibility of PvP in Mass Effect could be?

Perhaps the biggest letdown for Retaliation for me was the lack of Harbinger trash talking us during collector matches. You guys said there were technical issues that prevented this, but might we see... Or hear, rather, Assuming Direct Control in a future patch and/or DLC pack?

I would like to see this as well.  We will have to examine this further for feasibility.Image IPB

Actually here's an interesting idea for implementation that will make it not end up annoying after a while.
Basically, replace some of the operator's quotes with the Reaper's teasing (and I don't say it's Harbinger because attracting attention of the leader of them all is a thing for Shepard only, but who's to say whatever reaper is controlling that Collector squadron we're fighting isn't talky?).

Example would be... Assassination mission, announcer goes "We have some targets of interest in your area" when you get your first target. When you kill it we start getting the famous quotes "These bodies are meaningless", "Take them down, ignore the dead" and other such ones instead of the operator urging you to the next target.
Perhaps on extraction waves and hack objectives phrases like "This hurts you" are and "If I must tear you apart, I will" are used since they're both defensive stages.

Hi Derek,

I was wondering if you can comment on the use of aim assist/snap-to-target on consoles. Why was this implemented and is there a way to remove it or tone it down? It's extremely frustrating to play as a sniper and constantly be directed to an enemy that you weren't originally pointing at when you scope, and it makes headshots with heavy weapons unbearable if you try to redirect your aim while under cloak (since your cooldown time will be high).

This was a debate issue during development and it was finally decided to keep it since MP does not have a time slow feature during sniping (we did try that too).  In order to make sniping more viable we had to keep a snap-to-target feature.  This was to help the majority of players.  The few really good snipers kind of had to bite the bullet on that one.  No pun intended.

What about an advanced option buried in the option menu with big warnings and such for disabling it, would you kindly? As have been said, it hurts a good amount of weapons based on precise shot placement.

------

Besides that, I have a question.

About melee powers like biotic charge. With the patch, the power now triggers the krogan rage and I have heard about it now also receive bonuses from melee boosts like weapon blades and gear.
Could you confirm if melee bonuses affect charge for either krogan or all the vanguards in general?

Thanks.

It's something I can bring up to the team, I just can't promise anything.

------

Melee bonuses do not affect biotic charge but do affect the Krogan heavy melee attack (aka Krogan Charge).

PS - I am temporarily locking this thread so I can catch up a bit on the questions asked. Image IPB

Derek,

I know you all have seen the multiple threads created over the months of increasing credit payouts for the lower difficulties. Now that we have a mountain of gear to unlock (and rank those up) any talks of upping the credit pay outs for bronze and silver? Especially now that the difficulty was "unintentionally" *wink* *wink* increased?

This was why we added a 10% bonus for extracting *wink* *wink.*  (The mountain of gear, that is).

Difficulty?  Well, we know things seems harder.

Here's what our thoughts were on difficulty:

Bronze: An introduction to MP.  A brand new starting team with new accounts should be lucky to make it to wave 3.  That was how it was at launch and that is still how we view it.

Silver:  For veteran players with haf-decent gear and some levels under their belts.

Gold:  For the absolute best with maxxed equipment.  This is NOT meant to be easy at all for even the best players.

Platinum: Is simply added for people who want to show off and need a challenge well beyond Gold.  This is NOT meant to be easy by any stretch and many deaths SHOULD be expected and extraction?  Well, GOOD LUCK!

In the challenges section, it gives the option to set Operation Bloodlust banner, and when I do it, it doesn't show. Just wondering if it's a bug or if it doesn't actually have a banner to show.

This is a bug.  There is no banner for individual weekend challenges.

Hi Derek!

Can you comment on the lack of text chat in the PC edition? We've had a couple of comments from devs in the petition thread, but they were months ago, and consisted of vague "I'll look into it" stuff. Is text chat a lost cause?

Also, does the Bioware team find Geth frustrating to play against too? With the recent buffs to Pyros, the "fixes" that would perhaps have been better left unfixed, and the lack of fixes to things that everyone wanted to be fixed about the Geth *cough*Hunters*cough*, it seems like the devs don't actually play against Geth much.

The first question is something that requires a higher level of response than I.

The geth are the geth.  They do not have sync kills but I can understand if you get yourself surrounded it can feel like a lost cause.  There are split thoughts on them amongst the team.  On one side, staggering is a mechanic that encourages team play to keep your buddies alive and kicking, ensuring you check your corners and keep the enemies at bay.  On the other hand, there is the feeling that they may feel too rough.

So, maybe they need sync kills and less staggers?

As for the pyros, it had been decided some time ago that any enemy with a yellow health bar is considered armoured and therefore too heavy to overcover grab.  This was a global decision and mechanic for all factions.

Wow, really cool that a dev has taken time out to answer a few things. Soooo drells, poor drells, we know they will be buffed soon but how long must drell fans wait to catch up? Watching guys jet pack, instantly restore shields and launch devastating mines across maps....meanwhile, i throw my grenade and run my azz off to the other side of the map in fear a single shot will flatten me.

A few have been requesting points for volus restoring team mates shields? Is it at least under consideration.

Also which volus is your favourite?

Thanks for your time

Points for defensive powers is tricky.  They can be spammed with no actual benefit so the idea of base points would be out of the question.  The other issue is spamming a power that drains shields then having a volus spam the shield healing could also be exploited.  It's difficult to decide which way to go on this.

Other than that this would require a patch.
