This is more of a recommendation than a question, and I'm sure you or the team have considered it, so I was just hoping for comment.

Now that you have a challenge system that rewards a specific pack for completing a specific challenge. Many newcomers are now inundated with the vast array of rares. The tonnes of content is fantastic. But the newer people have little to no chance of getting decent items for quite some time, so that while their skill is top notch, their loadout cannot complement it.

What I would suggest is this.
Take one weapon, from each class of each rarity (think MP demo selection days, excluding any ultra rares) and create an achievement which unlocks the first level of each. That way, you could introduce people, give them a specific goal to work towards with a guaranteed reward to get them started.

I'm not a new player I know, but I understand the difficulty of unlocking stuff when there are vast swathes of possibilities and all you have is a random number generator. :D

Our philisophy has always been that the lobby is reserved for getting ready to start a match.  The more fiddling a player does in a lobby, the longer everyone else has to wait for that person to ready up.

Harder?  We really want Gold to be the most difficult challenge with Platinum only as something beyond even that.  If that is not happening, then those difficulties are too easy.

We intend (at least at this point) to keep each one a surprise.  We had intended not to accidently show our hand on them but the preverbial cat is meeerrrrrooooww...right out of the bag.

We intend to keep the map rotation random as well.  You CAN expect one map to be a non-damaging hazard and one damaging.

Any chance of throwing us a hint every week that's so vague, that our brightest minds here will only be capable of nailing the class down to like, four possible options? I think that'd build hype.

Wow.  That's a big question.  Trying to keep this short though.  It really is a collaberation of teams; design, art, animation, sfx, sound, and QA.  I think that's everyone for kit design. Image IPB

The art and animation guys are wild folks we keep fed with pez and caffeine.  To watch their creative minds at work would make a mortal man go insane.  They say anyone who is left to watch them never returns.  I have yet to test that legend.  Seriously, though, they are awesome and take ideas from all around their environment.  They then implement the idea around the core themes of the game.

Every weekend.

I know of at least 2 people from our studio who skydive.

I find the idea of practicing skydiving to be funny.  How do you "practice?"  I mean, you remove gravity, what's left?  Flailing your arms and screaming? Image IPB

Hmm, I use the fury a lot (just ask Bryan J.)  I can't say as I have experienced what you describe.

i am mostly just curious why one hazard map per week does not have a credit bonus, especially after reading a BW blog that said some hazard maps would and be based on difficulty.

Credit bonuses have been applied to extractions at this point in time.

I think the hazards for maps depend on your play style.  Sniping is certainly affected by visibility as are long range powers.
