Wow, really cool that a dev has taken time out to answer a few things. Soooo drells, poor drells, we know they will be buffed soon but how long must drell fans wait to catch up? Watching guys jet pack, instantly restore shields and launch devastating mines across maps....meanwhile, i throw my grenade and run my azz off to the other side of the map in fear a single shot will flatten me.

A few have been requesting points for volus restoring team mates shields? Is it at least under consideration.

Points for defensive powers is tricky.  They can be spammed with no actual benefit so the idea of base points would be out of the question.  The other issue is spamming a power that drains shields then having a volus spam the shield healing could also be exploited.  It's difficult to decide which way to go on this.

Other than that this would require a patch.

Considering all the work that has been accomplished, yes, I am happy.  We will always look at tweaks, of course, but overall, I'm happy.

This is more of a recommendation than a question, and I'm sure you or the team have considered it, so I was just hoping for comment.

Now that you have a challenge system that rewards a specific pack for completing a specific challenge. Many newcomers are now inundated with the vast array of rares. The tonnes of content is fantastic. But the newer people have little to no chance of getting decent items for quite some time, so that while their skill is top notch, their loadout cannot complement it.

What I would suggest is this.
Take one weapon, from each class of each rarity (think MP demo selection days, excluding any ultra rares) and create an achievement which unlocks the first level of each. That way, you could introduce people, give them a specific goal to work towards with a guaranteed reward to get them started.

I'm not a new player I know, but I understand the difficulty of unlocking stuff when there are vast swathes of possibilities and all you have is a random number generator.

We are definitely looking at how new players react to all the content and the road ahead of them

Our philisophy has always been that the lobby is reserved for getting ready to start a match.  The more fiddling a player does in a lobby, the longer everyone else has to wait for that person to ready up.

Harder?  We really want Gold to be the most difficult challenge with Platinum only as something beyond even that.  If that is not happening, then those difficulties are too easy.

Are you tempted by holiday seasons, e.g., special things showing up on halloween? I'm sure it's a lot of work, but it's so much fun. Banshees riding broomsticks across the sky would certainly get attention. I love the Krogan heavy melee laugh, I'd love for them to suddenly gain a white Santa beard during December as they laugh. If you've ever seen the Captain Morgan commercials, many of us have talked about how much fun it would be to see the geth gain the captain's pirate hat and eye patch at the moment of the foot-up-in-the-air for the Captain Morgan pose. Or gear that lasts for a short event like this and then disappears which allows non-Krogans to do the ceremonial headbutt (perhaps telling someone to not whine at the same time).

We intend (at least at this point) to keep each one a surprise.  We had intended not to accidently show our hand on them but the preverbial cat is meeerrrrrooooww...right out of the bag.

We intend to keep the map rotation random as well.  You CAN expect one map to be a non-damaging hazard and one damaging.

Any chance of throwing us a hint every week that's so vague, that our brightest minds here will only be capable of nailing the class down to like, four possible options? I think that'd build hype.

Why not incorporate the female skin for the Shaman like most were asking for? It would have been a unique look and most associate an adept Krogan with the female. I think quite a few were disappointed that it was just a reskin of the Battlemaster.

Design decision. Not much I can add there.

Hey Derek! I love behind the scenes creative process kind of stuff, and I've been wondering if you could give us some insight into what goes into the making of these powers and what both they and the characters look like? Do you guys just just find cool models and stuff in the files you like to see and edit them, or do you think of the powers and then create them aesthetically? An answer would be awesome. Also, you was the brilliant mind behind giving the new Turians ****ING JETPACKS!

Wow.  That's a big question.  Trying to keep this short though.  It really is a collaberation of teams; design, art, animation, sfx, sound, and QA.  I think that's everyone for kit design.

The art and animation guys are wild folks we keep fed with pez and caffeine.  To watch their creative minds at work would make a mortal man go insane.  They say anyone who is left to watch them never returns.  I have yet to test that legend.  Seriously, though, they are awesome and take ideas from all around their environment.  They then implement the idea around the core themes of the game.

Every weekend.

I know of at least 2 people from our studio who skydive.

I find the idea of practicing skydiving to be funny.  How do you "practice?"  I mean, you remove gravity, what's left?  Flailing your arms and screaming?

20 years military and I've never jumped out of a perfectly serviceable aircraft.

Derek, is it possible to change game sounds? because the only sound in the game that destroys ear drums is the Fury - Dark Channel. Did anyone test this in Bioware before releasing it into the game.

Hmm, I use the fury a lot (just ask Bryan J.)  I can't say as I have experienced what you describe.

Design choice.  Some powers have effects that effect everyone.

it was stated in one of BW blogs that some hazard maps would have credit bonus instead of experience bonus based upon the challenge of the map.

my question is why are we not seeing any of the hazard maps with credit bonus yet?

is the damaging hazard maps considered more challenging than the visibility maps by BW?

if per week hazard maps are released with one visibility and one damaging, why are they both giving only experience bonus?

is it because "you guys" have not fully implemented the credit bonus yet for maps?

i am mostly just curious why one hazard map per week does not have a credit bonus, especially after reading a BW blog that said some hazard maps would and be based on difficulty.
unless i misread something?

Credit bonuses have been applied to extractions at this point in time.

I think the hazards for maps depend on your play style.  Sniping is certainly affected by visibility as are long range powers.
