...ok, I'm going to be making an archer and was just weighing up options for the different classes:
warrior - more attack, damage & character HP, however possibly limited by warrior specific talent tree
rogue - combat stealth very useful for survuiability, rogue talents possibly better suited to archery and better specializations
mage - is this even possible? no archery specific talents, however would have spells to falls back on. Would need to invest somewhat in dexterity to be able to equip the bows anyway which would be good for defense, however theres not a lot of spells that can be cast with weapon equipped anyway. Arcane warrior specialization may not even help so what would really be the point over using a staff????
...so basically the choice is between warrior and rogue...any thoughts???
archers; warrior rogue...arcane archer???

A warrior does have access to the archery talents, but I think a rogue is better suited for archery for all the reasons you mentioned. I don't believe the mage has any archery talents available, and besides, the mage's staff is already a ranged weapon. Using a bow wouldn't help much except where the target is immune to whatever type of damage the staff is inflicting.
