NO, they re-invented vampires.

I liken it to re-inventing the wheel, except making it square and missing one side, while covering it in enough glitter to blind other drivers.

Can we pease stop brining up Twilight? Lets all think about Castlevania like vampires. Dracula, Alucard, Bruaner, etc,. They were bad ass vampires, lets have vampires like that in DA3.

Honestly though, I think it would be a better idea to make blood mages more vampire like instead of them being all like "Blooooood! Kill and stab! more Blood!".

I'm pretty much never one of the "no this or that" people, but I'm going to have to say, no, I don't want vampires in dragon age. The game has its own pretty elaborate lore, it's a big part of the world Bioware's built, and there are enough unique monsters and sources of evil that there's no need to force in something as overused as vampires. There are also a lot of codex entries and expository dialog establishing what exists, so I don't see how vampires could just suddenly appear on the scene without it feeling like a retcon.

Hmm.. Sorry to burst your bubble, but vampires are already exist in Thedas. They are people possessed by hunger demons.

Taken from the Demonic Possession codex:

Next are the demons of hunger. In a living host they become cannibals and vampires, and within the dead they feed upon the living. Theirs are the powers of draining, both of life force and of mana.

They're there. We just haven't seen them yet.

Aww you got to burst her/his bubble before me, drat Image IPB

I'm glad I made this topic Image IPB had some interesting replies lol, logically, with the war going on there is going to be more blood magic and demons going about then usual, it could be a hugner demon will be at the heart of a blood magic cult Image IPB cursing them with a "thirst" exchange for power.

That'd make a decent side quest-line, I guess. After playing VtM:B, I simply cannot find any other vampires in other media or games to fit my expectation.

Huh. I guess it's sort of open to interpretetation until they do show up, but I'm hoping that by "vampires" they mean "blood drinkers", and come up with their own take on it rather than the usual no reflection, burns in the sunlight, turns into a bat, creature of the night thing.

I kinda hope they're disgusting looking. I mean Broodmother ****ed the Harvester and created this monster disgusting. A Hunger Abomination, it seems to me, should be just... disgustingly gluttonous.

I want to have to turn off the game and take a shower and a small cry when I see one of these things.

The look itself is important enough, but not as much as the setting and lead to its/their appearance. To me, it was the chant before meeting Brood mother that made her(?) so memorable to me.

From that demonic posession codex, the hunger demons aren't even considered intelligent. I sort of doubt that the abominations they'd produce would be the suave dracula type. More likely just more animalistic versions of the original victim.

The hunger demon in the Deep Roads was quiet intelligent, able to strike up conversation and make deals.

There's one in Awakening too, in human form rather than a profane. It speaks but doesn't come across as especially intelligent, just tricks you into thinking its human then goes "raawrr" and attacks once it gets you back to its den, not especially cunning compared to the sloth or desire demons you come across in the circle of magi.

Well, strictly speaking... desire and hunger are kinda the same thing right? You can desire more than sex (such as power) and you can hunger for more than food (such as power).

I mean it's kinda the same thing, right?

You've got the human scholars breaking the demons down into very specific categories, but then you've got Merril talking about how the elves see them differently, with the demons being no different from spirits, which seems sort of accurate, with justice possessing anders and turning out sort of... morally questionable.

In game though, the different demons are represented by distinctly different models - desire demons and pride demons look nothing alike, rage demons are those magma beasts, sloth and hunger demons both look like shades.

They also adhere to pretty one dimensional personalities that correspond to the different categories- pride and desire demons play on your weaknesses to try to get you to make a deal with them, which is sort of high level, abstract behaviour. At the opposite end of the spectrum, the rage demons just sort of rage. The hunger demon in the deep roads seems to just want to bask in the profane's lyrium addiction, which isn'[t hunger in the strict eating sense of the word, but differs from desire in that it's sort of a primal, subconscious need rather than a conscious want. To use the sex example, a hunger demon would follow a sex addict around while they indulge themself, but a desire demon would seek out someone that wants to sleep with someone unattainable and promise them that in exchange for a foothold in the real world. Or for power, a hunger demon would draw sustenance from a tyrant dominating his subjects, a desire demon would promise someone the throne.

Meh.
If they're these glamorous beings with no physical flaws, then **** no.
But, if they barely even look human, then sure why not?

I do like Vampires, but Twilight and all those other shows have soured my opinion of them.

LOL, I was being ironic, of course, (unsuccessfully) trying to point out how many game developers (and possibly gamers) are obsessed with the zombie genre - even Sleeping dogs got some as a DLC...
But good job finding the Walking Corpse pic =]

And to stay on topic, NO VAMPIRES.

Because Bloodlines just didn't do all that well. It's hardly mainstream, unfortunately.

No, for the moment, the really mainstream vampires are the sparkly ones.

As if I needed more proof we live in a cruel and uncaring universe.
