The conversation felt so tacked on and pointlessly contrived.  It basically just went like this.

Meredith:blah blah I'm going to blame you for some Ferelden blood mages

Alistair:I'm going to tell a witty joke, haha.

*Hawke enters*

Alistair:Hi, I'm Alistair I was in the first game

Bann Teegan:I was in the first game too *wave*...I'll be quiet now.

Aveline:Oh hi your majesty I was at Ostagar

Alistair:Yeah, Ostagar was bad.

Anders:Oh hi, remember me I was that guy who interacted with you for one second from the first game.  I was a Grey Warden btw, lol!

Alistair:Oh yeah I remember you, hi.  I was a Grey Warden too, lol!

Isabela:Hi, we spoke for 2 seconds in the last game, gratz on becoming king.

Alistair:Thx! You look different btw.

Alistair:blah blah Orlais this, Templars that, Vicount vicount yada yada yada and here are a couple of pointless references from the last game, swooping is bad lol! Ok I'll go.  BTW, I'm going to tell you to protect Kirkwall even though that's what you've already been doing for the past several years.  BYE!

Hawke:Seeya.

Me too.  Looks like he's gained about 25 lbs and looks like he's wearing lady's makeup.

You know I wanted some cameos for the upcoming DA game, but if they are going to make them the way they were(and looked O_O) in DA2 then they shouldn't even bother.

I like cameos. I don't care if Alistair's appearance wasn't relevant to the current plot. I, the player, want to know what's going on with the characters I liked from previous games.

Hopefully in Da3 returning characters won't look as derpy as Alistair or Zevran did in Da2.

All but one. Personally, I thought Finding Nathaniel was one of top five missions in the whole game.

The only thing that would have made it better was if he waggled his eyebrows when he did the horrid repeat of his 'swooping is bad' line while Ban Teagan did Jazz hands behind him.

Yeah... He called my warden 'the old ball and chain' despite being madly in love with her at the old of my DA:O playthrough. He didn't sound 'playful' or 'silly' when saying it, either... That seemed out of place to me... What exactly did my warden do to make him call her that?

Glad I'm not the only one who thought that
But then again, one has to remember you could marry him without even being friends with him. (or so I was told...I don't remember too well...)

Back on topic...
My only complaint with his cameo was how he looked, but that didn't even upset me for more than two minutes.
I liked hearing about what was going on with him, Ferelden, and to a very very small extent, my warden. He's my favorite character in DA, so I don't think I would ever really complain about him having a cameo.
Then again, I also liked Zevran's cameo. I guess I'm one of the very few who enjoyed them...oh well.

Personally, I find the idea behind Alistair's cameo was the greatest. The presentation of Orlais considering an invasion of Ferelden was great but the cameo itself and the content of the others felt mostly forced into a side quest to point out "HEY, THIS IS THE SAME UNIVERSE WITH THE SAME PEOPLE!".

THIS. God, so much this.

Alistair's King cameo would've been great if he was trying to subtly petition Hawke for Kirkwall's aid -- which he does, sort of -- and after leaving subtly helps Hawke undermine/remove Meredith with funds/what soldiers he can spare/whatever.

And other thingies.

Alistair's King cameo had potential. As it was, its potential was not utilized and its just a "Hey, have a nice chat with this fella'!"

I liked the cameos. I admit they felt a bit light - Alistair's especially - but all of DA2 felt a bit that way... (I liked it anyway).

I've never wished so hard for a murder knife as I did during DA2's cameo scenes.

Haa! Yes!

Wait, that's not funny...it's depressing.

The cameos really did feel forced and tacky (with the exception, I agree, of Nathaniel's), and Alistair looked freaking terrible. I hope it goes much better next time.

Otherwise, not sure why this post is in the DA3 forum. Unless we're trying to suggest to devs that we'd prefer cameos to contain something more than fanservice?

It is slightly off-topic, but let's correct that!

Would you like to see more, less embarrassing, character cameos in future Dragon Age titles?

I had no problem with the content of the majority of DA2's cameos. Nathaniel's could have stood to be a bit cooler than offing a few darkspawn, but the Alistair one above was the only one that made me groan. His Grey Warden and drunkard cameos were fine IMO.

Zevran's remains my favourite, despite his unfortunate makeover, DA:O flag bugs, and the inexplicable re-use of the varterral.

It is explained -- by Merrill. She says that it was bound there and so long as it has something to protect, duty will demand it fight.

Seems likely that it was protecting Zevran himself.

I like the idea of cameo's, but they do not seem to be Bioware's strong point.

Mass Effect 3's were pretty atrocious as well, as they pretty much boiled down to "Hey, Shepard.... yeah, I need your help again."

I thought Leliana's was pretty good, if a little brief. Flemeth's inclusion was excellent, although it seemed strange to make her so seemingly important and then do nothing with it.

She'll have a more vital role in DA3 I guess. Perhaps she is DA's Liara.

The problem lies in which characters you like really. If you really like a character, then you'd probably want them taken more seriously, but obviously people have different opinions on which they like.

So generally speaking I'd say forget about making embarrassing ones, and concentrate on making satisfying ones.

I'm only interested in cameos if they make sense within the story of Inquisition.

All the cameos in DA2 are weird.
