Well it was a little weird hearing Alistair's voice come out of that strange new face, but other than that, I liked the cameos. I like knowing a little more about my favorite characters after the main adventure, it's like getting a postcard from an old friend. Leiliana's one was quite good. Zevran's too.

I like cameos. I don't care if Alistair's appearance wasn't relevant to the current plot. I, the player, want to know what's going on with the characters I liked from previous games.

Same for me! :D

i am about to replay dragon age 2 even though i hated it the last time...
On topic "swooping is bad".
Seriously that cameo was an insult to my intelligence.
Pointless dialogue which offered nothing .
Do not forget about Zevran who is presented more of a male **** instead of that easygoing bi elf killer. i liked him at DAO.

and the inexplicable re-use of the varterral.

It is explained -- by Merrill. She says that it was bound there and so long as it has something to protect, duty will demand it fight.

Seems likely that it was protecting Zevran himself.

It's explained, but the explanation makes no sense unless Marethari was unaware it could come back to life, since she was the one who said it was threatening the clan. She sent Hawke to kill it and presumably expected it would stay dead.

Merrill's explanation just felt like a convenient way to explain the re-use of a boss fight, at least to me.

This. Cameos just for the sake of cameos isn't something I'm interested in either. Cameos that are relevant to the plot, however, those I'm all for.

I liked pretty much all the cameos. It makes the game universe feel more like it really is the same universe in the games.

King Alistair is still better than Warden Alistair...

Why would you bother coming to a burning city full of angry Qunari, if all your going to do is say hello then run away because you have 'important warden business'??

Lost alot of respect for Alistair in those two minutes.
They shouldnt use cameos in DA3 unless it makes perfect sense for them to be there

Apart from the drastic facial model changes I really didn’t mind the cameos.
The only thing that really confused the bejesus out of me was Nathaniel and Zavran magically popping in to help out in the boss fight at the end, then buggering off when it’s done without any explanation...
I mean really, what was that?!

In addition to my previous point, if I hear "Swooping is Bad" another goddamn time... well, tables will be flipped.

This. The only one that made any sense to me was Leliana's, And hers was tacked onto Sebastian's DLC, which I'd sometimes prefer to skip.

I had no problem with the content of the majority of DA2's cameos. Nathaniel's could have stood to be a bit cooler than offing a few darkspawn, but the Alistair one above was the only one that made me groan. His Grey Warden and drunkard cameos were fine IMO.

Zevran's remains my favourite, despite his unfortunate makeover, DA:O flag bugs, and the inexplicable re-use of the varterral.

Yes.

I aww'ed at Alistair giving Hawke a ring that "belonged to the love of his life, but she finds those shiny baubles everywhere and probably doesn't need it anyway"

Well, possibly because he was a Grey Warden. Their job is to battle the blight, not Qunari. If there were pressing matters elsewhere, it makes perfect sense that he would have left the city in Hawke'n'friends' all-too-capable hands.

The conversation felt so tacked on and pointlessly contrived.  It basically just went like this.

Meredith:blah blah I'm going to blame you for some Ferelden blood mages

Alistair:I'm going to tell a witty joke, haha.

*Hawke enters*

Alistair:Hi, I'm Alistair I was in the first game

Bann Teegan:I was in the first game too *wave*...I'll be quiet now.

Aveline:Oh hi your majesty I was at Ostagar

Alistair:Yeah, Ostagar was bad.

Anders:Oh hi, remember me I was that guy who interacted with you for one second from the first game.  I was a Grey Warden btw, lol!

Alistair:Oh yeah I remember you, hi.  I was a Grey Warden too, lol!

Isabela:Hi, we spoke for 2 seconds in the last game, gratz on becoming king.

Alistair:Thx! You look different btw.

Alistair:blah blah Orlais this, Templars that, Vicount vicount yada yada yada and here are a couple of pointless references from the last game, swooping is bad lol! Ok I'll go.  BTW, I'm going to tell you to protect Kirkwall even though that's what you've already been doing for the past several years.  BYE!

Hawke:Seeya.

I liked his cameo as King Alistair. I thought the Warden Alistair cameo was all right... I had to watch the drunk Alistair cameo on YouTube because... I've never done that to him. It was sad. I like that character.

It's a cameo, dude. It's fanservice by defination. I got to smile at an old friend and a choice I made in Origins pay off. What more could you want?

I don't want "Cameo's" I want old characters to be a part of the game along with the new ones, have them give you a few quests, or be part of a few quests, and/or have them also turn up now and again in different places as you progress through the story, depending upon past choices in all three games. Have them actually be impportant, not just cheap fan-service. I mean, I spent a whole game with these people in each game, I wanna catch up, so to speak.

Also, what in the name of the Maker did you do to their faces!? O_o

I like cameos, but they gotta make sense. I can't say I hated any of the cameos in DA2 but they have to fit into the storyline, and the character they are displaying. I'd like the see cameos in DA3 hell I'd love to have Varric as a companion again because that man was fantastic. But it has to make sense why he's there and participating.
I'll admit for a diplomatic meeting Alistair was a little light hearted but characteristcally that kinda made sense although there should have been a difference if he was hardened or not.
The cameos I'd really like to see is the more minor characters from other games showing up. I mean I havn't heard anyone complain about Cullen and his reappearance, or Bohdan or Sandal. (although I guess those are less cameos and more inclusions.)
I just want those cameos that make me squee and feel good.

The Blight (and Awakening) is done, what pressing Darkspawn business can there be?

"Alright, vacation time... oh, it's under attack. Back to the boat! If anyone asks, we got an urgent carrier pigeon and have business elsewhere."
"If we have urgent business, shouldn't we have gone there first? I mean, it takes weeks to get anywhere, even by boat."
"Shut up, Jenkins. That's just our excuse for bailing. Remember Article 12/B: We only bother saving innocent people if we can press-gang them into the Joining"
