that heavy pistol mod is the only mod in the manifest i dont have yet, ill make sure to try it on the eagle when i get it... eagle is pretty close to the lightest gun in the game, ( bar the tempest, locust, light smg category) might be pretty good with that.

I did manage to come in first on silver using AA+CSMG II. Here's what I've found:

The CSMG II works well with Asari Adept (and probably also M&F human adepts and possibly sentinels(mainly spammer classes that don't have grenades))[+expert package V]

Spam power > fire ~half clip of smg or so > detonate biotic explosion > ~fire half clip of smg> Repeat
=
Even spam just throw, stunlock everything and whittle it down. Never worry about ammo crates or cranky demolishers + Never worry about reloading

Don't have an eagle so I can't compare/

The only full auto heavy pistol in the game. Damage per shot is somewhere between the predator, and the phalanx.

Actually N7 Eagle can be quite a formidable weapon on Turian soldier (well, I bet that a wooden club or a BB gun would be formidable on this guy), since you can have superb rate of fire and full stability - crosshair won't move by even 1 pixel even out of cover. Combine that with headshot bonuses and it works surprisingly well.
Collector SMG X is also quite potent (doesn't surpass Hornet, though, but it's also a completely different gun), especially if you take increased clip size mod (72 shots is really fine).

The CSMG X only has 40 shots in its clip...its reload time is 3 second when depleted, or 2 seconds when left at 1 shot.

I'm not going to bother checking manifests, but I bet most people saying Collector SMG don't have it. Holy crap, its SO horrible. Eagle by far.

Collector SMG by a huge margin.
I have at level X while I have "only" Eagle II.
With collector smg I can pull headshots at any range without much effort, with the eagle I can't because I'm not that good with its recoil (if I fire from the hip I loose a lot of accuracy).
Moreso the SMG has no recoil, and if you put it on caster classes (as someone said) it's awesome.

EDIT for Cyonan: the collector smg weight at level X is 0.45 like the hornet, not 0.35, and I suppose it's 0.85 at level I.

I'd take the Collector SMG just so I could try it, especially if I get to keep it after. It's the only gun I don't have.

No I wasn't thinking, I was using Magazine Upgrade V & extended barrel V. So the eagle is probably better, but I think the SMG has a niche.

Never reload the CSMG, never spend the clip. It reloads like the particle rifle, venting heat. Even moving in/out of cover or sprinting cancels the reload. Recharging on the other hand happens as long as you aren't pressing the trigger.  Also reload cancelling doesn't work on the CSMG because after it 'reloads' the clip starts at 1 and charges back up. You can even switch to another gun and let it recharge holstered.

Umm...N7 Eagle, hands down.
CSMG does 1/3 the damage of the Eagle vs Armor, takes almost a full second longer to reload. (and only 0.1 sec shoter if you don't empty the clip)
The Eagle is lighter, and more accurate.
Plus, with eagle you can use the AP mod AND ExB and boost the damage even higher.

Besides, I have an Eagle VI and only a CSMG I.

Stats like this make you always wonder why they make certian guns Ultra Rare when they are really really bad?

Do they? In your sustained dps are you running out the clip and re'loading' or stopping short of 0 and letting it re'charge'? Do they account that the CSMG starts at 1 round after re'loading' and still must also re'charge'? It might be even worse then?

With the extended ammo mod there are 73 or so rounds in the Collector SMG at X.   It works great on a caster class ( I use it on the QFE with incendiary ammo ).   I only have the Eagle at one, so I can equip the Collector SMG + Scorpion and still get good cooldown on the QFE powers.

The trick is to never run the ammo all the way down to zero and incur the reload penalty.   Firing powers frequently does the job.  On a weapon-heavy class the Collector smg is not as good as the Hurricane ( mine is only at II ) but its great on a caster.

IMO the Hurricane is the only SMG that ISN'T a caster type weapon...
But you're right, it can be good, it's just a matter of preference.

With the CSMG, you get much lower DPS, but you can bring along a different Pistol.
Or the Eagle, you can get much higher DPS, but you can't use any other pistols.

CSMG I with HVB does 48 damage to armour.

The CSMG is also much more accurate than the eagle and doesn't require reloading and trips to the ammo box.

CSMG if you have a decent level smg HVB or want to use AP ammo and use the mod capacity upgrade.

Uhh...no.
I'm not sure where you people are getting your numbers from...buuut, most of you are WAY off.
The CSMG has a 1.5x vs armor. So with the SMG HVB (ignores 90%) it would do 51.10 damage per shot.

Base damage: 37.40
Multiplier: 1.5
Armor DR (gold): 50
HVB: 90%

50*0.9 = 45 (ignored)

37.40*1.5 = 56.10

56.10-5 = 51.10

Simple math people...Remeinds me of a question most people get wrong...*makes new thread*

I'd rather make like a Batarian and beat enemies to death with my own fists. :(

But honestly, both are better than a lot of weapons like the Pulse Rifle, Phaeston, Scimitar, Disciple, Plasma SMG, Incisor, Collector AR, Katana and Raptor. They're just lac king as far as ultra rares go. The Eagle due to high recoil and the Collector SMG due to the small clip size and long reload.

Umm...those three are by no means the greatest but...did you REALLY group them in with the Katana?!?
