Mabari as ability or party member?

Did you prefer to have your Mabari Hound take up a spot in your party in return for being able to level it up, or did you prefer having it as an active ability, saving a slot in the party for someone else? How would you want the Mabari to return, if at all?

I liked having him as a party member, but that was because I loved playing as him and leaving him in charge at Denerim instead of Loghain or Sten.

I prefer both actually, an ability to summon it and then being able to skill it up as it "levels".

Party member. Pokemon style was just too dumbed down.

I'd prefer something fresh rather than another Mabari.

I prefer using the hound in an summoned capacity. I thought DA2 handled the matter nicely - you could use the Mabari as needed, without losing a party member slot (and thus potentially losing out on some good companion-companion banter), but you still had some dialogue and rather amusing scenes with the pooch.

I think the dog should be a party member. I was so much more attached to him in Origins. That point when I left him to fight the Archdemon I almost cried for my little Timmy. HE'S SO CUTE!!!

Assuming we get one in this game I'd prefer it as a summoned as it was in DA2. Otherwise the little guy gets no play time from me.

So you want a creature that does what it wants, won't lick your face when you come home and lies around lazy all day expecting you to clean up after it?

Dog all day my friend, when was the last time you ever heard of a cat lying at its owners grave mourning?

Unless of course you can give the battlecat a dogs sense of loyalty, then it would be super awesome!

I agree, summoning is the best.

Well, in Origins I always used the mod where he assumed the spot of a creature. You know, like a summoned creature or a controlled one. So he was both a party member that I could level up and interact with, while at the same time there was room in the party for Shale. =D

Dogs licking my face? Eww, just eww. Thank god, a cat won't do that.
And dogs are the one who need cleaning up. My cat rans outside when it needs to take a sh*t or ******. My aunt used to have dogs and they use to sh*t all over the place and needed baths!

And I don't need animal mourning in my grave. They should be moving on and living, not stuck in one phase. Though cats are depressed when their owner goes missing, so I call BS on  that line.

So yeah, Battle cat ftw!

If a dog ****s in the house then blame the owner for not raising it right.

I want a Mabari like the one in DA:O. A full companion not just "Dog, I choose you". Pokemon and DA do not work well together.

That being said I really want a Halla

Ideally? Consistently present non party member with limited interactivity (simple attacks and limited skill tree housed within player power wheel.) and independent behaviors (exploration assistance, tricks, and acknowledgement in companion background chatter) like Fable does.

At home (or headquarters or camp or wherever Sherlock sleeps) the mabari could be much the same as it was in DA:O and DA2 home hub.

Don't listen to him, you want a three-headed mabari.

Because if there's one thing BioWare games need it's more Cerberus.

Summoned, like in DA2 was best for me. I very rarely used him in Origins as he used up a party slot.
