If we have a Mabari (why would we though - they're primarily Ferelden - giving us one feels forced) - then I would want it a party member - and I would want it to have a more fleshed out existence.

I'd like it to have a "Pack Leader" tree where it summons temporary Mabari (or wild dogs) as its abilities.

I really don't want a cat. Not only are cats useless in battle but they're useless outside of battle as well.

What if our cat was like a mountain lion? Or it is a unique animal that was experimented on and is like a Mabari War Calico? Razor sharp claws of furry-ous death.

They'd still be working with a cat's inherent laziness and utter disinterest in everyone but themselves.

"Cat, come attack this guy! Cat? Time out, my War Cat's missing."
"Time out? A cat? What kind of inquisitor are you?"
"Oh there he is - see, he's sunning himself over by the tree. Isn't he cute?"
"If you're not going to take this seriously, I'm leaving."
"Why do all the apostates walk away from me?"

The only way cats work as a weapon: If Flemeth shows up to hurl handfuls of them at people.. she just screams 'Crazy Cat Lady'.

You're assuming their hypothetical war cat would operate on the same level as our own cats, and since this is a game they can give them whatever personality they want.

I am really don't want a war cat, but to me it's not any more ridiculous than a hyper intelligent war dog. I do enjoy the visual of Flemeth hurling cats at people, however.

I think I'd rather have the Mabari as a whole entire skill tree, with one point, it would function just like DA2 was, but by placing more points in it could gain new attacks and the like. Which you could say is a waste of points, but I think I was one of the few people who had too many points by mid-game or what have you.

There's still a logical progression with Mabari, though. They dig up random junk, they bolt off to play with kids, mark out territory and so on. The rest of it would come in after a lot of training. (Hey, in-canon explanation  for the DA2 Mabari being useless and wandering off every load-screen... Hawke just found it somewhere and never properly trained it.)

Cats.... I don't know - Rogue training to make them sneak around, yakking furballs, shredding clothes and leaving streaks on the carpet... good psychological warfare against those wacky Orlesian stereotypes, sure, but hardly good for combat.

Simple, we make them big cats.

There you go, now they can fight any human.

So we just roam the countryside with a tiger. Tiger gets taste for human blood from combat, and/or wounded and can't hunt normally.

Hilarity ensues.

Ability. I never used him when he was a party member.

I wouldn't mind another one in party since Doggy from DA:O spends his years after the blight siring a new generation of mabari hounds due to the numbers lost during the blight. A puppy of the most epic dog ever to raise in his honor? Yes please.

*looks at sig for some DA:O Doggy nostalga*

the Mabari in DA:0 was the best anti mage/ anti archer missile of the whole game

So regardless of what we get, if we get any, be it giraffe, cat, dog, horse, nightmare wyvern or unicorn, It/he/she should have a skill tree and piece of Armour.

the best way for me that it should be a quest and you get an extra companion slot or having it summon able, which is exactly the same thing.

Party member please, with skills and items (Mabari armour? Paw boots!!! Yes please.)

I really do NOT want another magic vanishing dog. I don't understand why that was included in DA2 at all.

I want a wolf. Maybe a species that's native to the icy region our domain in DA3 appears to be?
Mabari are cool but Fereldan. I think I've had enough of Ferelden. Background wise anyway, I still very much want to go back there.

Neither, as I don't want to play a dog-obsessed Fereldan again.

I'm very much a dog person in truth, but variety is the spice of life.

I'd prefer it to be a party member, but with it's own slot, separate from the 4 man party, especially if it's not going to have a working approval/friendship bar. I don't know how many time I'd forget to summon the darn Mabari.

Nothing get's fresher than a mabari.

I'd like for him to be a extra companion like in Origins where you have to solve something to gain him. I loved his small interactions with the world in DA:O.

I'd rather than a human that speaks and has dialogue than a dog.  There's only so much you can do with happy bark, low growl and whine.  Granted, they could always make him an abomination nation dog with blue eyes that can freak out at anytime.  But assuming they don't go that route, if they have a dog, I'd rather see it as a fifth party member (so that it doesn't have to compete with the humans) or as a summon.  Certainly, no one thinks the summon is cooler than a full-fledged party member.  It's just a matter of if he's a worthwhile companion when competing with elves, humans and dwarves that talk.  For me, he isn't.  *sad whine*  Again, though, extra party member or summon.  *Happy bark!*  Granted, he's been done twice so I can understand why they might not utilize this time or try out a different animal friend.

Neither.

As a combat pet like WoW hunter. Doesnt take up a companion slot and better than an ability.

I like this idea.

I adored my mabari in the first two games, but as Shorts pointed out, variety is welcome.

Just summoning the dog in a poof of smoke just reeks of the game being dumbed down. It goes against the lore of the game too. Warriors and Rogues don`t have magic abilities.

I liked how the mabari didn't take up a party spot in DA2 and I would prefer that route for DA3 as well, if we do indeed have a mabari.

Rangers could summon their pets out of thin air, I guess that means Origins was dumbed down too?

Yes. That bit was dumb too. Especially when a bear showed up at the top of the tower during the fight vs the Archdemon. I`don`t remember them apearing in a poof of smoke right next to you, though. Like some pokemon. they came running into the battle from somewhere.

Mabari blood mage. Possessed cat.
