Party Member if he properly scales with a skill tree and all. That means plenty of interactions like normal companions too...
And yes, I can think of plenty of great encounters with Dog...
Or, lock him as a permanent 5th party member with everything I mentioned above. That way he doesn't take a party slot. The summon was ok in DA2 but it made him feel less useful. It seemed like he died too often to me. I'd like to control him a little more, like tactics.
Mabari as ability or party member?

I really don't want a cat. Not only are cats useless in battle but they're useless outside of battle as well.
What if our cat was like a mountain lion? Or it is a unique animal that was experimented on and is like a Mabari War Calico? Razor sharp claws of furry-ous death.
D'AWW can it be a rogue too:D? I wants it.

Assuming we get one in this game I'd prefer it as a summoned as it was in DA2. Otherwise the little guy gets no play time from me.
Agreed with this. I never used the Mabari as a companion, even though its interactions with the others could be funny. I prefer the combat animal be summonable, neither a game breaker nor utterly useless, rather than take up a full companion slot. Also, either having no pets or something other than a Mabari would be preferable for 3, imo.

Actually having Ser Pounce-a-lot make a surprise appearance in the next game would be just too awesome, but give me my active party member Mabari war hound back and I will be very happy. It would be neat to have the appearances of their kaddis become even fiercer, and show the damn collars once they're equipped too!

I rarely used the dog as a companion so I'd rather have an animal be a summonded ability as in DA2.
Even if we don't see any other species of pet, I'd like to see a non-Mabari dog: I understand why it was easier/cheaper to use the same mastiff-type for MotA, but ideally there should have been some kind of hound/pointer/setter in that setting instead. If the new game has a setting where a different breed type is more fitting I'd hope that we get to see some other type of dog (even a lapdog could have some kind of healing or other non-combat power like Pounce in Awakenings).

Depends on how they go at it. Summon would be fine if he was more than a pokemon type thing. If they don't intend on doing that however, party member all the way.
