I recently got my hands on the Dragon Age 2 strategy guide. It was fun flipping through the book and looking at different things. Then I came across a section called 'Dragon Age Encyclopedia.'

This thing is fun. It's just a few pages long with small bits about the world, races, and what have you. Reading about the different nations like finding out that the Anderfels are so Blight-ridden that there are fields so devoid of life that the corpses cannot decay, or that the Free Marches are the breadbasket of Thedas thanks to the Minanter River (which is also one of the leading factors for Nevarra being such a rising power), or that the University of Orlais frequently clashes with the Chantry over their ideas.

This stuff is fun! I enjoyed reading all those pages and all it did was make me wish that DA3 takes place on a world stage.

I realize that when you go so large with the setting you can't go in-depth at certain cultures or nations. Like in KOTOR you travel around the galaxy but you can't say those six load zones were all of Manaan or that walking around on enclave on Dantoonie told you all about the people of that planet.

But it told you enough. You got tastes of everywhere you went and each place was uniquely different.

That's what I find myself hoping for with DA3. You start in Orlais but end up traveling from Minrathous to Hossberg to Antiva City to Denerim. I want to see these people and how different they are. I want to explore the entirety of Thedas not just one country or city!

We can go in-depth later! I'd love it! But all this history and all these facts about the world need to be seen and experienced in-game!

Hell I'd also love going to some Qunari lands... hard to justify but if the entire world's at war who else gains but the race of militants from across the sea sitting poised to strike for all these years...

And as a small addendum if the World of Thedas book is full of this kind of facts about the world then I'm certain to pick up a copy.

I agree. The DA world seems very rich and so far we've only seen a relatively small chunk of it. I'm quietly hoping that, while the main events of the game will take place in Orlais, we will also be able to get a flavour of other locations. Assassin's Creed II provided many refreshing and surprising changes of scenery, which improved the (already excellent) experience of the game to no end.

I liked how DA2 was intended to display only a microcosm of the DA world, letting players delve deep into a single city and its immediate surroundings - Star Wars 1313 looks like another game that has this idea. But since that idea has been done now, with Kirkwall, I think as a contrast we ought to see a game with far greater geographical scope next time round - even more than we got in DA:O.

They'd have to spent a lot of art assets to keep all the various places looking distinct from each other for me to think this would be a good idea.

I don't want everywhere to have Mabaris and wear noble clown outfits.

This is certaintly true. Although many assets could be reused (cups, tables, chairs, peasant rags). It would require nobles to wear more than the same four outfits but if even a small portion of the game takes place in Orlais than that was going to happen anyway.

I'm not sure if I want everywhere at once. I want to eventually explore all parts of Thedas I really do, but I like how they're spreading it across games. What I think would be fantastic fo Orlais, being such a political power is that we can see all different parts of thedas represented there. possibly through diplomats, traders, or immigrants. We got bits and pieces of this in DA: O and minimally in DA2 but IT could definitly be expanded in Orlais. I'd like some travel throughout the world but trying to stuff it all in one game probably won't work quite as well.

I'd want to see more of Orlais's culture and more of the Dalish culture, too. Actually, I just love learning about new cultures and such.

And I agree with RandomSyhn that I would rather they spread out the focus throughout the games. Fereldon in DA:O, Kirkwall in DA2, Orlais in DA3... I don't mind hearing little bits of information here and there about the other nations, but I'd rather the focus wasn't too mixed.

Remember, what happens in Orlais, stays in Orlais.

Though with the LI obsession so many have going on, they might as well make the game nothing but Orlesians.

I can wait... by the time the new age is declared Age of Apostates - we'll have had many games and seen a great deal of Thedas.

The world is far more interesting than just playing the same character over and over. I'm glad they took the route of making Thedas the focus.
