I think there is a lot of missattribution of different accents. Being canadian I always cringe when in TV or film claims someone is from toronto or western Canada and then slaps em with a Newfoundland accent. Having spent a lot of times with people in the maratimes there is a big difference say between a Nova Scotian accent, a PEI accent, and a Newfoundlad accent. Even Cape Breton island a part of nova scotia has its own distinct dialect. I know someone who can pick out which part of scotland your from because of your accent, whether it be Dublin or Glasgow. I'm pretty sure Quebec city and Monteral have different accents but since I lack familiarity with them I cannot be certain nor distinguish one from the other.
I'm pretty sure when people hear a French accent and it doesn't fit with their perception of the Parisian accent they immediatly assume French Canadian where it could be South African rural France or just someone attempting to imitate any of those.
But since Thedas is a different world lets forget the semantics and just call it an Orleasin accent.
It's still funny when an American call a french-canadian a redneck .. An American. The irony is too strong. Moron are everywhere. Even more in big city. Prejudice are born out of ignorance.. Internet is often just trolling.
Some folk just know nothing about everything.

Newbies... Are you trying to roast yourself?
Fereldan turnip is a reference to the mark of the assassin dlc, and stop moaning about newbies...it doesn't take a newbie to act like an idiot...something you have proven yourself. Being new to a dragon age forum does not signal a lack of intelligence or knowledge of the series.
I wasn't talking about masha potato, the plus two means up two post. Now that you've embarassed yourself, you're dismissed.
Ive gone all red.

Play with subtitles on and press the mute button. Or, maybe they'll have the dialogue audio separate from normal dialogue, and you can just turn that off and have the subtitles on.
Or get over the accents.

I'm Canadian and I don't really think that the Orlesian accent sounds like a Quebecois accent. That being said I found the Orlesian accent to be very amusing myself.
i did not think so - even worse was the accent of the divine in Dawn of the Seeker *pukes*...so horrible (leliana was tame compared to that and acceptable)
greetings LAX
ps: i agree with the OP...(but i could tolerate it, if you can "silence" conversations with an extra button!)
pps: what is offensive about not liking how someone speaks? (i mean, surely you all have at least one accent you can not stand...maybe arabic-accent? a japanese one? or something along those lines...i myself dislike americans trying their hand at german, because they allmost allways have a really bad accent - i'd rather switch to english myself, because i do not have much of an accent (none IMHO, but other may think otherwise) and french of any kind trying their hand at english, because they sound horrible and they do not eve want to sound better (!) french are bad at foreign languages IMHO, because they are so proud of their laguage that it is really ridiculous that they would not even bother with foreign languages if they didn't need to)
ppps: note: this does not make me hate people with accents...it just makes it hard for me to accept they really tried to learn a language, if they did not try to unlearn their accent (hell, i do not have an accent in english as far as i know!)

I think the entire game should be in French - with English subtitles.
Now THAT'S authenticity.
Make it happen Bioware!
I agree. That would be an extremely bold move but I would like that even though I don't speak French. I can handle subtitles. I played the Witcher 2 in Polish.
How is it authentic?
They're Orlesian, not French.

OP, just because they're a Canadian company doesn't mean they only use Canadian voice actors putting on fake accents. Almost all the Fereldan accents are voiced by English actors, and most of the voices in MotA were genuine French accents.

Gascard's accent in DA2 had me on the cusp of puncturing my eardrums with a pen.
Alas, I'm sure others are annoyed of the English accents of most humans, and the American accents of most Dwarves. ..So we seem to be at an impasse.
The only way I see this problem being solved is by having every line of dialogue in the game be voiced by Morgan Freeman.
In Spanish. I don't think anyone would expect it.

Sure, we french canadian speakers have weird accents when we speak in english, but it doesn't mean that all of us do. Some people were born and raised in a bilingual family, so both their french and english don't really affect one another. I'm pretty sure only a good part of Orlais, like Val-Royeaux and its surroundings will have an accent, while the rest of the map will have different accents, slangs and all. Don't assume that most of the game will be like that, we're not there yet. It hasn't been confirmed if the protagonist will have an accent yet.

Hmm .. Ever heard a Parisian talk in english ? When I was not used to it I would cringe in horror. Now i`m quite used to it. Being friend with a parisian family.
Lot of people lack tolerance when they're not used to something. When i go to Saguenay ... I can barely understand what they're talking about and we're all french canadian. But those people are just amazing and far from being stupid.
I'm pretty sure a lot of people were annoyed by the accent in DA2.
But this guy .. Mushroom is a troll . .A very good one. I give him that. He play with the insecurities of people with great subtlety. Plus this guy was previously banned.
