" Any weapon/build/class can be used on the higher difficulties, but your build is not going to compete with a competent player running a build with Adrenaline Rush."

But I am not trying to compete, I am trying to contribute as a team player to the goal of getting to extraction. If my HFS is in the top two then I have made a good contribution to the teams goal. I have killed a lot of enemies, had fun and not got a headache using one of my favourite builds.

There are always going to be better players than me anyway, I am not a great Gold player, I am a competent Gold player, I do my fair share of the work.

Rather than not use the class at all because the the main power gives me a headache I have found a build that works for me and still contributes to the team.

...aaaaaaaaand THAT is how you play a game.

Any questions?

Human soldier concussive shot spam builds aren't overpowered. They are, however, surprisingly decent on gold/silver/bronze, where mooks outnumber bosses.

It's basically a fun and mostly effective gimmick playstyle to trot out when you're in the mood.

The point is that a player around your skill level, running a HS build with Adrenaline Rush will also "contribute as a team player to the goal of getting to extraction", but that player will contribute more due to having a better character build.

I never questioned your build's ability to contribute, I only said that a better build will contribute more. Same thing with the GIs that don't use Hunter Mode because they get headaches from the screen overlay. Can they contribute? Yes. Are their builds optimal?

No.

Maybe some of us enjoy being effective.

People acting all clowny with "What difficulty you on" = "LOL CS and no AR?".

I find firing a claymore twice without reloading quite fun. Nice insult there, I feel so bad about myself.

I say more power to ya. Honestly, it's more fun to play with somebody using a CS build since it helps me get more kills. That's just my opinion, of course.

The best time I had with the claymore HS was a lot like yours: two shot like followed by an ammo pack to finish a banshee. It felt almost like a "three barrel shotgun". Good times :)

Adrenaline rush can be spammed for damage reduction, weapon damage bonuses, and shields.

All with no drawback. CS can't even come close to that

I have two questions. Does CS apply ammo effects on target or it is still bugged? Does it trigger tech explosions?

It's a shame you guys are going on so much about competitive builds for the game, all I care about is that this guy's idea seems pretty interesting and fun.

They removed the "ammo effect" evolution. It does detonate tech combos. Quite great to use fire/cryo ammo with a soldier.

No they removed it. Yes, it can detonate tech bursts, fire explosions and cryo explosions.

You're on a video game forum, and you're surprised that people would be comparing weapons/classes/builds and trying to find the most effective ways to use them?

If so, that's even more shameful.

thanks :)  I still think AR is more useful than CS, but I like some variety in the builds too.

wow, can't believe people really can't see the benefit of CS over AR. well, given i use a build with both, the build I use focuses more on CS with AR only as a life saver (shield recharge). cryo acolyte + CS = 1-2 shot any enemy below boss level. cryo smg + CS any boss level above. with the new hammer evolution and the now working cryo combo, CS has a high damage output AND spammable cooldown.

on the bright side, the less people see how strong a CS centered build is, the less chance they'd nerf it for those who do. (note: I've used this build even BEFORE the chargeless acolyte, and it still wrecked)

Nice passive aggressive assumption. I said it's a shame you guys don't seem very interested in builds that aren't super effective.

I never said I was surprised, never said it was bad, and never said anyone was shameful, simply it's a shame you guys won't want to try something because it's not super high DPS competive.  But if that's what is fun for you, go ahead and do it.

There are only 3 significant benefits a build that skips AR for CE has over a build that skips AR for CS

  • CS can trigger tech bursts and elemental tech combos. A HS that skips CS can still do that with frags, but they have a limit where CS does not
  • CS is a projectile power, which can be used to trivialize Phantoms and Banshees A HS can still do this with frag grenades assuming CS was skipped, but again they are limited
  • CS can incapacitate and stun basic trooper level enemies with no limit on how often it can be used, unlike frags
If I missed any, let me know.

So you reply to what you think is a passive aggressive assumption with one of your own.

There is no "shame" in wanting to actually be effective. Someone using the OP's build as opposed to an objectively better one would be needlessly gimping his damage output/survivability/utility. I've done it on occasion with unconventional builds, and still contributed just fine. That doesn't change the fact that they were suboptimal, and I could have done better with an objectively better build.

It's not about the build not being "super high DPS competetive", even though the OP implied it was as such with the thread title.

Which difficulty levels have you tried this on and what's your extraction rate. My HS builds without AR have sucked on anything other than bronze...but maybe I'm doing it wrong since I've never used the Falcon and Acolyte with the HS.

GOLD SON. GOLD. Try it folks. TRY IT. The crowd control abilities are NUTS. Adrenaline rush only lets you handle one guy at a time. Just try it.
