Hello everybody. I've started MotB just about 5 min ago. I've met Safiya, walked around the caves for 5 minutes and... there was something strange, so I've checked here http://www.gamebansh...lowerbarrow.php . Even if I've reloaded the game 3 times, the dialogues in the areas 2 and 3 and here http://www.gamebansh...iddlebarrow.php at area 1 are not triggering.
I've also read that there should be something that eats spirits in the same area number 1, but I haven't seen anything.
Any idea, please? Thank you.
PS: please, I've just started the game, NO SPOILER, thanks!

My first thought is that I've seen missing dialogues and journals as a symptom of starting the game as a module instead of a campaign, but I don't think it's possible to start MotB in any way other than as a campaign. Well, it is possible if you're using a modded version of the campaign, I think. That's the only thing I can think of, personally.

Hmmmm... the game has been patched (the official patch) and then I've installed a mod, that I've immediately uninstalled. Now the game is "vanilla" again. I am using some mods for the face and the hair of my PC, but I've also tried moving them in another folder: the game is still not triggering dialogues :-(
I've tried to enter the console, to see if there are the area-triggers in the scene, but I am unable to enter that damn console. :-( I don't even know what else to try. My character is the same as in the OC, so it should not be a problem...

The cosmetic mods are probably not the ones causing the problem. I've played the game with those, encountering no problems whatsoever. Hm, can't this be some sort of remainder after using the romance mod for Bishop? I think you've talked about using one. I think one of them alters both OC and MotB, no?

Do you get cutscenes without text, or no cutscenes at all? There's one right at the beginning, so it's easy to check.

I'm not an expert in these things, but as Vanilka said, cosmetic mods shouldn't affect that. Are you sure you don't have any dialog-changing mod installed? Or maybe you're missing some file. Have you tried removing everything from the Documents folder and reinstalling the game?

To open the console, press the key to the right of "P". You won't see the console right away, but it'll show up when you start typing. Press that key again to close it.

Or, depending on your keyboard configuration, the key may be above your tab key, to the left of the "1" key.

I've always had a problem starting the console since I have a different keyboard which might be Vaalyah's case, as well. I think you have to write:

##Debug Mode 1

Now you can write the commands, but you have to put ## in front of each command, if I remember correctly. Then:

##Debug Mode 0

The regular way of entering the console that you can find on most pages doesn't work with my keyboard. Or maybe I've just failed to find the right key. This is what works for me, if my memory doesn't fail me. It's similar to how you enter the console in the old NWN games. Hm, I don't have the game installed at the moment, but I'll try it as soon as possible. I've wanted to play it again anyway.

Never heard about that (the ##). I was confused at first too, but as I said, you won't see the actual console until you start typing after pressing the "open console" key. Maybe that's your issue (i.e. you don't see anything so you think it hasn't worked)? Or maybe there's a third possible key for other keyboard languages.

For the record, my keyboard is Spanish. Vaalyah's is Italian if I'm not mistaken. I remember talking about this in an old topic, and I think it was the same key for both of us.

Edit: Here, but I don't know if that key finally worked for her. Someone mentioned the ## there too.

I've never had to enter any ## characters, but I'll take your word that it's necessary in your case, Vanilka.

A lot of people have trouble with the typical console key in games. It seems that some keyboard manufacturers, or operating systems, or motherboard BIOSes tend to hijack certain rarely-used keys for their own nonstandard purposes. My mother's keyboard, for instance, reassigns all of the function keys (F1-F12) and requires pressing a special button to make them behave normally. My laptop came that way, too, but I was able to change it to standard function through an option only available by booting into the BIOS. That kind of nonstandard manufacturing makes it harder than it needs to be to help people troubleshoot their problems.

A bit of a digression, perhaps, but it's a possible reason why you can't activate the console, Vaalyah.

Also, unlike Ark, I do see the console immediately when I press the key. A lightened panel appears to cover the top half of my screen, and a red # appears at the bottom of it.

Hey, I just read that thread you linked, Ark, and that explains where the ## comes from. You don't enter that if you have the console open, but you do enter the ## if you're entering commands into the chat window instead, which is apparently another way of entering debug commands that I've never tried.

Yes, that's how I understood it as well, but I've never tried it. I might do so next time I play (haven't played much lately).

Interesting. I thought that not seeing it was the usual. Well, it doesn't really matter as as long as it works in some way.

Ah, blast it! I'm sorry, I totally forgot to mention that I access the console through the chat/combat log.

So, press Enter, then introduce the command preceded by ##, right?

Yes. I tried it, and it worked for me that way. But in the other thread, I also saw that Vaalyah reported a successful opening of the console screen by typing ALT + 096.

Ok, random answers, in the order I read the questions:
1) I've tried also by removing all the mods, so, I don't think this is the problem. All the mods I have (also the Romance Pack, which actually adds something to MotB) are just subfolders in the override folder. I've moved all from there, tested the game and put the cosmetic mods (not the Romance Pack, since I would like to install Dark Soul mod) back. No effect on the game :-/
2) the Dark Soul mod comes with an installer. I've run it, tried the game (discovered I have to modify the dialogue.tlk to use it with my Italian game) and uninstalled it. With or without it installed, the game doesn't trigger the dialogue.
3) I have A) the dialogue at the start of the campaign (when you discover you don't have the shard anymore) B) Safiya entering (oh, there's no time, hurry up!), C) 2 times (other times I haven't seen it) I received the words by Safiya after everything started trembling "Let's hurry up, enchant the weapons in my inventory by using the can't-remember-the-name bag there". D) if I enter the second area, and ONLY IF I SPEAK TO HER, I get Safyia saying that her mother sent her there. No soul-eating spirit arising, neither the spirit-wolves talking.
3) I've pressed EVERYTHING on my keyboard to see if the console was working. No effect :-(
4) In the OC, I used the console, so somehow I managed to make it work. Can't remember how o.O The ## thing sounds interesting. I am giving it a try, thanks!
5) ALT+096 thank you very much for having linked that topic. Really, this is a big issue, since every now and then I keep asking about the console :-D
6) I remember to be able to see a highlighted area too, when activating the console. However, just for be sure, I had also typed something just to see if something was happening. I'll try with all the suggestions you gave me as soon as I've finished posting this answer :-)

Guys, thank you all for your suggestions. Back in few minutes with the result of this investigation. At least I'll be able to see if the triggering areas are there :-/

Here I am. Ok, I can celebrate the fact that ALT+096 officially works!
And these are the results:
1) in the first area, here at number 2 map I should have received a dialogue about Safiya's familiar. As you can see here: pic the game has a trigger for "Kaji introduction", but the dialogue still doesn't start (I've stayed on that yellow trigger for an entire minute and I've also walked back and forth for a while)
2) here map at number 1 I should have seen something to speak with wolves. There is nothing: pic and if I choose the "speak to" action, the wolves just don't react.

So, any suggestion? :-(

The conversation about Kaji is a windowed dialog, IIRC (i.e. not a cutscene). I don't remember about the wolves one (I know there's a cutscene after the fight, but not sure if there's another before). Can anyone confirm it? If it's also windowed, it could be that the bug only affects those.

Windowed or not, something should be triggered. I don't see anything, not a cutscene, not a window :-( even if I speak with Safyia or the wolves.

After you leave the Lower Barrow, you should immediately enter a cutscene with the wolf spirits. The conversation with Kaji is indeed just a window, not a custcene. It should trigger on the bridge, before you leave the place you were lying in and enter the caves.

What about backing your game up - especially the saves - and trying uninstalling, then installing the game? Do you think it could have anything to do with your having a different language version? Is it possible to switch it to English, just to see what happens?

It is possible to change the dialogs' language, but I doubt that's the problem, since I often switch between English and Spanish. Nevertheless, if you want to try the English dialog, check this thread.

I'd try reinstalling. There's no guarantee that it'll get fixed, but it's worth a try if no one comes with a solution.

It's just occurred to me, since Vaalyah seemed to have a lot of trouble with the OC, that it might be her version of the game. It's just a guess though. But you're right, switching the language wouldn't probably solve anything.

For using the Dark Soul mod, the entire game has been switched back to English (that's way I've uninstalled the mod: I could never play with the spells and weapons names in English. They are not literally translated, so it would have been a mess) and still it didn't worked :-(
I'm afraid I'll have to reinstall it. My problem is: what about the patches? The "patch" entry on the main menu has disappeared :-/

rename the nwn2 folder within my documents and start the game again. whenever there's no nwn2 folder the game will create a fresh one - only this way you can be sure that there are no modded files flying around somewhere interrupting stuff. if the bug still happens i would try to (backup first!) uninstall and delete everything connected to nwn2 and install it anew WITHOUT any mods, install all the patches too. afterwards start motb and report if there's still somewhting weird.
