For the record, I blame voiced PC for this!

Despite the fact they've said numerous times that this is not the case at all?

And you believed it?

I knew a voiced protagonist and the focus on cinematics was going to mean a lack of races options and playable Origins. They're both way too expensive when combined with the latter. I've been saying this for months now.

a pity. really. because I loved very much Dragon Age: Origins.

I was really going to think there was hope.

very well. there is no point to stay here anymore.

Well, bye.

Wasn't expecting the racial options to return, and of course I mostly play as human so personally speaking it doesn't affect me. It is sad for those who would have loved playing an Elf or Dwarf. But this whole deal with choosing a unique background sounds interesting.

Looks like they are doing the Mass Effect route. Shepard had three possible backgrounds and three militray backgrounds to choose from. Ala you could be a Colonist, War Hero, Earth Born, sole Survivor ect

Because the explanations are logical and the ones that claim otherwise aren't?  Yes.

Literally the only thing such arguments hang their hat on are the linking of accents to race, which isn't something BioWare is obligated to keep.

Cinematics are a different matter.  Furthermore, such arguments that exclusively blame VA ignore the other things fixing aspects of your protagonist allow you to do, usually because people offering these arguments do not appreciate their value.  That doesn't mean that all players share that handicap.  I certainly don't.

Yeah, and RPG totally falls/triumphs based on race selection.

That is ALL that matters. :innocent:

I completely disagree on KotOR.  Since the personality of the characeter in the backstory had been destroyed, there was no necessary relationship between the actions in that backstory and the character of the PC during the game.

KotOR and NWN offered the most wide-open character personality design of any BioWare game.

I would disagree on it being destroyed--though I may be wrong. I don't recall the game's exact definition for what Bastila does to "you,"--does it destroy your personality, or simply cause you to forget it. There's an important distinction there. I don't want to digress too much, though.

One DAIII level as big as ALL of DAII?

Sounds good so far. :o:O:O

Not what they said, but close enough.

So far it sounds like Inquisition is going to be massive in scope.

I can't say I am surprised, race selection would have gone a long way to attracting me back to the game though.

I'll still be buying the game.  I enjoy playing humans.   I play non humans in online games.

Not that suprised, and don't really mind, but I am interested in hearing more about the background choices though; I just hope they have more of an impact on the game then Shepard's did in ME.

Hurray! Now I don't have to save up money to buy this game on release date!
Seriously, this was a huge disappointment to me. It was one of the reasons I started off DA2 annoyed. Playing as an elf or a dwarf was so much fun in DA:O. And in NwN I never played as a human. I liked to play as a fantasy race in a fantasy game.

I liked different races too but the fact remains 80% of players played humans in Origins. They are going to do what sells. And in all honesty I would rather have them focus their resources on making the game than design aspects where only small percentage will use.

Disappointing, but I can't say I'm shocked.

Bioware's never gonna let me play as a Dwarf again. T_T

EDIT: Just so people don't get the wrong idea, I'm being facetious in saying the above about Bioware.

I interpreted that to mean character levels. Sounds borderline copy/pasted from Project Eternity's stance on making character level ups require more effort, and be a much more significant power up. Not that that's a bad thing. If anything it increases the chances of their developing their own unique style when it comes to gameplay and leveling systems, rather than cribbing off of tabletop.

Yeah not surprised or particularly upset. Like the idea of background choices and agree hope they feel impactful.

Allan immediately responded to the level comment in the Twitter thread as being about maps. Those kind of levels.

Granted he wasn't actually at the panel as far as I know so he might have been making the same assumption we are.

MP will. I bet in MP we will be able to choose races/classes like Dalish Hunter, Dalish First, Dwarf Warrior, Circle Mage, Templar, etc

It's a slight disappointment, Orzammar was simply awesome as a dwarf and the city elves were my default, but hopefully there will be other things to delight and enjoy.

Orzammar is awesome as a human, too. It's been a long time  since I've gone through as a dwarf but Orzammar and the Deep Roads is still my favorite part of DA:O, regardless of race.

But I get your point.

So its about environment use. Sounds like we'll see some pretty amazing places then. So many of those lines taken out of context with "" are very ambiguous.

Double-crossing Bhelen as dwarf noble beats doing it as any other race by far.

For me yes. race selection mean different character, different prospective. I can't have all those prospective with a human character. with ONLY a human character.

very well. I'm just sorry I've already lost the money for DA2.

maybe, when BioWare is incline to make a fantasy RPG, I would buy it.
