Content-less posts with transphobic slurs are probably not the way to go here, folks.

I am not really suprised especialy with a voice protaginist. I loved playing as a dwarf in DAO but I understand the decision because playing a protaginist that can be either an elf or dwarf would require them to hire up to 6 VAs just for the protaginist alone. So I am not really suprised.

Does the elf needs a separate voice actor? Fenris sounds like any other humans without an accent like Merrill. If it's a city elf then I think that they don't need separate VA.

Indeed.

And you could just say that it's just the Dalish of Ferelden that speak with a Welsh accent. A Dalish from Orlais or Tivinter could have developed a more local accent.

I'd still want my elf to sound different than my human even if they both have a ferelden accent or whatever there are still differences.  Now don't get me wrong I want the option as other races but I can understand the decision to stick with humans and I think the protaginist being voiced is a large part of that.

In an ideal world, sure, the Dalish would have their own unique voice actors. But at the end of the day, it would be a non-issue for me to have a single voice actor covering a range of races if it meant we could have those choices in the game...

Depends on how talented the VA they use is but I am guessing they are still going to want to have a human sounding different than the dwarf or the elf.  So even if they use the same VA they are probably going to have them read through everything twice just for the sake changing up the accent.  I know I wouldn't want my human to sound exactly like my elf or dwarf.

Are you serious, all the races sound the same, guess what, the people voice acting all the elves and dwarves, in reality, they are human.

They have already stated that the primary reason they didn't add additional races is because it requires more work in the cinematic's and allows a more personal story, so basically, less work.  I am going to take an educated guess and bet that also means that every single human in the game is going to once again have identical height's and build's.

They still use different accents for them for the most part.  I am sure that cinematics and story reasons also factor although that didn't seem to be a problem in DAO, it still comes down the VA and making them sound different in my opinion.

Was that supposed to be funny or just offensive?

Never mind. It is just offensive. <_<

I thought it was kinda funny.

I never got much amusement out of trans-phobia jokes. And having actually lost a sister in real life, I can see nothing funny there either. Never mind me though,

I suppose it depends on personal tastes I would want them to sound different just to make each character I create feel more unique.  It would make my elf feel more like an elf if he sounded different than the human PC.

Now the next thing we will be waiting to hear is if our PC will have and be restricted to just a Orlesain accent.

I kinda meant that the whole statement itself seemed stupid and therefore funny. There is absolutely nothing funny about losing family members; and I am completely sorry about your loss and any offense I may have caused.

That was pretty damn rude, of course I know the VAs are human.  I still think humans, dwarves, ane elves generaly sound different from one another even if the differences are subtle.

One single accent is not an issue if we are just playing as a human

The bit about us having some degree of control over our backgrounds is good news.

You didn't offent me, Never Mind. Tis all good.

Back on topic:

I hope the backgrounds will be more in depth and have more consequences than in ME. :wizard:

Well, Fenris' VO voiced several humans in DA:O and Sebastian's VO voiced an elf in DA2, so I wouldn't be so sure about that.

There is no evidence whatsoever that a voiced protagonist presents the key obstacle to racial choice. None.

People are grasping at straws because DAO had a silent protagonist and racial choice, whereas DA2 had a voiced protagonist and no racial choice. THAT MUST BE THE REASON NO OTHER FACTORS MATTER.

So I have a human character as my avatar? So what? I enjoyed playing as an Elf and as a Dwarf in DA:O

And yes, I deem it an important lesson. It's important to me that I have the option to play as someone other then a human. Guess we don't have that in DA3. Oh well.

Little disappointed. I like the backgrounds though. Little confused about follower customization.

Just pointing that out.

Plus, what lesson were they supposed to learn?  That a lot of people like racial options?  I think they know that.

No lesson was needed to know other races wouldn't fit in with the story as far as the PC is concerned.

Not enough to actually implement them in a game though, so clearly.. they've not learnt that lesson.

Where were those people when BioWare gathered player data from DAO? Player data suggesting that 90% were playing CousCous/Amell instead of the elven/dwarf origins though?

What specific lesson were we supposed to have learned?

That people want multiple races for protagonist? That's something we're well aware of.

The lesson of 'people want more choices in games!' is certainly a good lesson - on the flip side, of course, the lesson of 'resources are not unlimited and we can't please everyone without going completely over budget both in terms of money and time' is a valuable lesson to learn as well.

I'm not diminishing that, to some people, being able to play as a race other than human is a Big Deal. However, it wasn't an option that we felt fit our plans for DA3. Obviously, some people are going to be disappointed - that's unfortunate, but it's inevitable. If it means you aren't going to buy the game, that's certainly your prerogative and right as a consumer, and I encourage folks to vote with their wallet.

I can't really say it more clearly than that. It's unfortunate you're disappointed, but let's not label it as anything other than it is - a conscious decision where we felt the benefits of multiple races were outweighed by the drawbacks and costs (not only financial and time-wise, but in terms of quality bar for other parts of the game).
