Do you think the Inquisitor can oppose the Chantry?

I highly doubt you can be openly antagonistic to the Chantry as a religion. Opposing them on certain issues certainly or even expressing non-belief or a non-commital stance might be possible. But you probably can't openly declare war of the Andrastian faith, seek to burn it to the ground and dance on it's grave.

Similarily, I think that Andrastian language/phrasings can be expected. There's strong indications that the game will take place to a large extent in Orlais, which is probably just about the most andrastian country in the world. The language itself is likely heavily influenced by the Chantry due to it's 1000 year presence. Attributing something to the maker might be more a quirk of speech than actual belief. Especially in a pre-scientific world with no fast spread of information, there's simply no alternatives present in language itself. That should not be taken as indicative of belief however.

So does that mean the Inquisitor can oppose the Chantry? I guess that depends on your definition oppose.
Politically and locally? Probably.
Politically and globally? Possibly.
Theologically and locally? Possibly.
Theologically and globally? Probably not
(Locally in this cases meaning in singular issues, globally meaning in all issues). I think we can expect some friction between our characters and the chantry itself, and in those matters we will probably be allowed to say our minds regardless of whether it fits with established doctrine or not. But outright opposing them on principle? Making it a definite aspect of your identity that you are not Andrastian? No, I doubt that.

No idea, and anyone who claims to know that doesn't have a BioWare tag has no idea either.

We don't even know if opposition to the Chantry will even be required to say, side with mages in DA3.

Not enough data.

Though it is probably safe to say that there will be no overthrowing the Chantry and ushering in an age of enlightened secular humanism, as much as some people seem to want that.

I'm banking on it! :D

That said, what we know about the game is that it involves an inquisition. It's possible that the player character might not actually turn out to be an inquisitor or a member of the inquisition, although being one could be interesting, in a "leaves me feeling rather dirty" sort of way; atheist in RL and it tends to colour my opinion about religions, even fictional religions.

I just hope people are smart enough to realize that there will be only ONE canon - and it will likely not be "Anti-Chantry".

I think that it is not an invalid thing to state that perhaps not providing an option like this has merit.

People will either **** that they're not being catered to - or they'll **** about retcons to their super special precious storyline.

Actually, the devs and writers have indicatated that they're going to do their best to remain faithful to previous choices as the story progresses and will not establish a set cannon between games. Thank god for that too, else I'd stop playing, as that was one of the main draws of the Dragon Age franchise in the first place.

@TheBlackAdder13: If you think they're going to make three different Dragon Age 4's to cater to three (maybe more) different endings for Dragon Age 3 - you're delusional my friend.

Though I hated it - I understand why they railroaded Dragon Age 2 with that Ander's crap.

You're not going to get a Dragon Age 4 with a destroyed Chantry - a Dragon Age 4 with a destroyed mage society - and a Dragon Age 4 with a destroyed Templar faction (just three off the top of my head).

You either won't get the option to change certain things... or they'll just pick a canon.

Who says any faction will get destroyed?  Weakened, but destroyed?  I doubt it.  Besides, the war itself is apparently not the focus precisely.

Besides, I think DA4 will be in Tervinter, distanced a bit from the consequences of the third game.

@Lord Aesir: So - this is a war to "weaken" your opponent?

You're speculating quite a bit about something you have absolutely zero actual information about.
