What do you want to do with your castle?

Cosmetically speaking, if it's MY castle, I want the ability to explore everywhere. I want it to feel grand. The Amell estate felt too closed in and I couldn't figure out where the kitchen was, let alone rooms for Bodahn, Sandal, and Orana.

i mean, swell, it can be defended well, but it is too out of the way for me...i would have rather had a ship (maybe even with isabella as captain?) and for land journeys an elven carriage (one of those really big ones)...and for fast travel (with the carriage being brought along by servants (not slaves!)) an animal of some kind (not saying horse, because i dislike horses)
not that i am totally against having a stronghold, but i would want some kind of mobile base as well (it is unrealistic that my character travels back and forth all the time when there are important things happening elsewhere!)
still, what would i want with a castle?
well, merchants of course
some nobles from the surrounding areas (to do some politics and intrigues)
storrage (armory!!!)
crafting (not too much, DA is no MMO)
message box (my inquisitor surely is important, so people would send him/her mail, gifts, threats etc.)
training grounds (like this station in ME1!)
my own servants and army (servants to send crafting, gathering etc.) and my own army to use to defend my base
some assassins and bards (spies!) to use
...(if i think of something else i will say so)
note: i don't want fereldan architecture and furniture...i want something elegant and dark...
greetings LAX
ps: why can't mages levitate in DA? - that would make traveling fast a non issue

Why the hell is that so popular?
I think because sometimes killing your enemies is not enough. Sometimes we need to brake them first or enslave them.
The Dark Brotherhood in Skyrim had a torture chamber. Perhaps that has something to do with it.
I don't think it would serve much purpose; blood magic is more useful in extracting information from your enemies.

- the magic laboratory:
If I ever come across a bunch of trustworthy mages, they will be invited to the castle and may use the lab for research. Preferably about demonic possession and how to prevent it.
- the silent room:
Every competent inquisitor knows that confessions made under torture are worthless. Instead, I would have this room: no word spoken here will leave this room. That will make people trust me with their secrets, haha!
and most important!
- the soundproof room:
This room, as the name implies, will be soundproof. Nothing said inside can be heard outside of it. It will also contain a life-size cardboard figure of the inquisitor, giving a broad grin and a thumbs up. This is where all the whiny party members stay to tell the "inquisitor" how templars suck and no, how mages suck even more. Whew. Blessed silence.

Each companion could have their own quarters in the castle. These rooms could evolve/change as the story progressed.
To explain further, say, in DA2, Fenris' Mansion would have changed from its Act 1 body covered state to being cleaned up a little with no dead bodies in Act 2, and finally in Act 3 all the excess furniture would be gone, ceiling repaired and only that one room he stays in would look occupied.
2) Exploration.
If the castle LOOKS to be big, then we should be able to explore it.
This was a problem for me in Awakening and in Fable III. Both had a sort of 'Home Base' castle and they looked huge, yet we seen very little of the interior (not including the Keep's underground or the introductory quest to Awakening).
3) Our Own Quarters/Office
Similar to Shepard's Cabin in the Normandy SR-2 I'd like to have a sort of home that looks cozy, has decorations and little collectables.
Perhaps that could occur similar to the 'Trophies' in Awakening that came in the grand hall after each main quest was completed, but I'd like something akin to Mass Effect's model ship collecting/artifacts/fish.
I would also like it to incorporate the 'Interaction' that DA2 had for Gamlen's House and The Hawke Estate where we could click on something and hear Hawke narrate it.
4) Castle Upgrades
Similar to protecting Vigil's Keep and upgrading the Normandy SR-2. As long as it isn't painstaking to do, I like the sense of accomplishment seeing the castle at its best and knowing it is because of the work I put into it.

I want to minecraft it up go off into the hills punch some rock out of them and bring it back to make my castle block by block.
Alternatively wouldn't mind some actual ongoing thing with it a lot of times these castley things take a few story based steps to upgrade and then hey ho we have a fully upgraded castle now we can forget about it since that content is done and ho hum what to do now. I'm not sure exactly what could be done to counteract that though to be fair having a brothel in it might help, needs more Serendipity representing.
To be abit more serious I love collecting things, love collecting all the pieces of art / books in Ass Creed and the like enjoyed seeing all the random bits and bobs appear in Vigil's Keep as you completed story stuff aswell that was fun.

Well, you can torture information about some treasure from one of the women in the Dark Brotherhood torture chamber.

I'm sure most of this goes without saying, but I only initially care about the basics: a merchant to sell junk to, storage, and crafting areas.

Agreed.
You can have up to 5 people in your house (obviously you and your LI doubled up, but the brothel was bigger than your house
You also apparently had an extensive wine cellar, as well as an entrance to the Deep Roads that leads to an ancient horror in your basement.....But I can explore three rooms?
I want an expansive castle with all kinds of goodies. Merchants, armoury, walls, etc. Like what Vigil's Keep had increased potential to be. And I want to earn it by killing things.
And maybe a dungeon with chains and what not, so I can play "the blood mage and the templar torturer"

And I'd like to be able to upgrade my keep, something like Vigils Keep in Awakenings, but more options. Even if the upgrades are purely visual, it would be a cool way to customize the castle. Add a new tower, upgrade the walls, build a smithy, add a storey to the inner keep, stuff like that.
Being able to collect cool stuff on missions/from exploring/from shops around the world and then displaying them in your room or in a designated trophy room would be really nice.

No purpose?! And how about fun? And if my PC is not a blood-mage? And what kind of Inquisition without good old torture? Nonsense!!! You know you have to be burned at stake for such heresy.!

I want my Arcane Warrior to swan through it like he is the king of the world, beautiful servants(Slaves), noble women and royalty throwing themselves at his feet, begging him to take them now! I'd want my companions to wander about its halls, getting up to all sorts of shenanigans that I can stumble upon and sit, just listening for hours on end.
I'd like to take it from absolute ruin to looking either like a grand fantasy castle, miltia stronghold or just a lair of diabolical evil. Being able to upgrade aspects of it would be a must like, upgrading my blacksmith so I can eventually make weapons that could cleave the world in two, or my alchemist crafting potions of invinicibilty (Don't actually want this, but you get the idea.)
I wanna be able to have kinky encounters all over my castle with LIs which could get stumbled upon by other companions leading to awkward moments or glorious achievements (You all know you wanna knock boots with Morrigan and Merril! Or for the ladies, Cullen and Alistair ... lol). Being able to defend it against random seiges would be beautiful, strategically placing your castle guard about the castle to funnel the enemy into death >=)
Can't forget the Griffon mounts, swooping down from the highest tower to lay waste to the attacking forces.
Afterall, not all swooping is bad swooping!
