I also wouldn't mind the chance to at least pick what kind of flags I put up or banners. But that may be asking too much.

should be run like a base somewhat with storage, barracks for factions that might join us, library or mages, armory, tavern, brothel..... all these things should be upgradable/buy-able/loot-able, and alchemy room, an enchanting room, a training area, personal chambers

IN SHORT it should be our Normandy but with more stuff to upgrade and our LI should move in to our big ass room for some action every time we stop at the castle :D :P

so yah DA:I castle = ME normandy

Cheers to that.

Personally, I want a labratory, a place where either my PC, or a Companion can go to experiment with new chemicals and technologies to give our castle defence that extra edge.

I still really want to pick where it is, if possible.

It should be a safe haven. It should be where all interactions with squaddies should be made. upgradeable looks. rooms. armor/weapon mods. important characters. council room.

It should essentially be DA I's version of the Normandy.

Hmm I wonder if the Devs actually read these posts or use them as feedback for the game.

Anyway I am a big fan of in game personal property. Be it being able to buy many houses lands or just having one house/castle/base. I was just overwhelmed by the castle in NWN 2 and what it had to offer.

So here are my ideas starting from the general stuff and moving to the details.

First off I would like to get the castle rather early in the game. And by that I do not mean in act 0 out of say 5. More like act 1 or 2 out of 5 so I would have the other acts to add something (quests for ex.) Furthermore, It would have to be a demolished or long forgotten one with no infrastructure so I could start from scratch. Also either as a reward or having to take it by force (2nd option seems more fun. Like can be a commando mission to get inside using a secret passage and then killing or capturing the inhabitants).
The player can choose what to build and would have many options. Though maybe a prison should be set as default. After all what's a castle without a prison.
My ideas for building options are (like Tarek suggested) - Storage rooms, barracks for factions that join you and also for your own forces (think you should have your own soldiers like in DA:A or NWN2); armoury, a tavern (definitely), brothel (not my first pick but I suppose); extra towers and walls; a alchemy lab or science room for an inventor; training grounds; torture chamber (if someone is evil); personal chambers ofc.
Now you shouldn't be able to build the things just like that. You would need either money or building material or both. For the special upgrades to already built stuff you would need special mats and maybe a special character recruited to live at the castle. This also implies owning the places you get the mats from like a stone quarry.
Most of the things build should be possible to interact with. Training grounds - you hire someone to train your troops and you will see that being done there. Tavern - well loads of stuff: parties, fights, companion convos. Armoury - can oder better equipment (also you need mats - iron or better ore mines) for the soldiers. Science Lab - can have upgrades available to buy or to research and will be ready to be bought at the right place after u come back to the castle (also here you would need the recruited mage perhaps?) Walls and towers could be strengthened and also some traps could be added or stuff like catapults and archer nests? Personal chambers - used as a trophies room and a bedroom that changed based on you actions in the world. Like some letters from thankful people appearing or presents. These are just some ideas but I think I made the point, that everything build does have an interaction (possibly more than once), clear.

Now I don't know if our base of operation is just the castle or does it also have some land attached to it. But if it does then I would guess it is used for growing food and gathering resources. So maybe also that could be upgradable (building farms, roads, mines). Also the mines should be imo areas you can choose to explore and take over. Plus you need to send men over there and see them working.

That's all for the building part. Now that we have a magnificent castle I think it would be a waste if it would just stand there. How about it being attacked from time to time and we could choose to defend it or not and the result would be based on its defences (that includes the garrison and the infrastructure). Also the decisions events from DA:A were nice. Just give more and let the player see the effects around him. (your troops actually patrolling the roads, bandits attacking in places less patrolled). Being able to send your troops to certain areas to do missions would also be nice and even better if you could accompany them.
How about establishing trade routes? Merchants could trade on the castle grounds and caravans could more between your castle and towns (here you can add encounters with bandits vs caravans as an example).
Now all these ideas give room for more quests/events. I highly doubt that all this would be implemented into the base game content (mostly because I doubt BioWare would use this since they already have an idea what they want in the game) but these things could be used for DLC. I know I would happily get every dlc that would give customization/quests/upgrades to the castle. I just love to stay longer in the world of an rpg game and these things give me that time spent :D

Anyway Thx for reading this long post. Hope you like the ideas.

Some form of storage so I don't have to carry around items the entire game. Also someone like Bodahn (or indeed Bodahn) in DA:O where you could buy and sell to him. Also a room for all my companions since it's most likely going to act as the camp in DA:O.

I also hope we acquire it by taking it over and not just being handed it in the beginning of the game. Similar to BG2 where we had to earn our Stronghold.

I would like it to be kinda like DA:A where you had to make a few decisions and people came to you with there problems and you had to decide what to do with it. I think they could improve on it, but that is what I would mostly want in it.

That court part was possibly my favorite part of dragon age ever.

Why stop with just one merchant? I want to be able to recruit an armorer, a weaponsmith, a tradesman, an enchanter. I want to fill the castle with life!

That castle kinda reminds me of the fires above castle, come to think of it. It's probably not, but I would love an all out siege, where how you upgraded your stronghold and troops, and your prior decisions, influences how the battle unfolds.

Create a school for mages with 4 houses. Calenhad, Dumat, Elgar'nan, and Aeducan.

The school's classes include History of Magic taught by Professor Genetivi, Transfiguration taught by Professor Morrigan (Flemeth denied the offer), Defense Against the Fade Demons taught by Professor Justice, Potions taught by Professor Anders, Care for Thedasian Creautures taught by Professor Sten (who had to change his name to Professor due to his new role) to name a few.

The school sport will be Wallop coached by Coach Gamlen, the choir will be instructed by Composer Leliana, the groundskeeper will be Oghren, every dinner will be roast Nug, and Varric will give a goodnight story every night.

Blackjack and hookers, first and foremost.

Everything else I'll just sort of make up as I go along.

- Dungeon.
- Giant table map of Thedas with figurines you can push around and pretend your moving armies/actually accomplishing something.
- Armory
- Alchemist
- Main hall where you can host feasts/murder your guests
- Somewhere to gamble and drink
- Brothel because BSN would suffer without one

Castle rush everything.

No permanent location, keep a sizable work-force to build a fortification right in the enemy factions' face. If that means a high death-toll among the workers, so be it.
Furthermore, garrison troops in built forts of conquered territories to keep the locals in check through terror and sheer force.

Yes, wrong genre and all, would be hilarious nonetheless.

If I'm going to reside in a huge draughty building I want my comforts. Extensive wine cellar, greenhouses where they can grow exotic fruit, personal library the size of the Ferelden Circle's if I'm a mage, but with more comfy seats for those moments where I'm just catching forty winks. Huge dining room with long table where everyone will get a sense of where they are in the pecking order, with much amusement whenever someone uses the wrong cutlery.

I think I've come over all Orlesian.
