 So in the recent articles it was confirmed that there is going to be background in DA3:I

So what do you suppose backgrounds mean? Do we get a "origin" like background to play out as in the first game or will it merely be a choise for reference and personal quests during the main storyline as seen in the first Mass Effect game?

Do you think backgrounds will vary based on gender or class?

I'm thinking we'll get Mass Effect style backgrounds.

I hope that means a two tiered choice, like a "Background" and "Career" choice

This. Hopefully it will have a bigger impact than the Mass Effect backgrounds though.

Well, even if they're only as involved as they were in ME1, I'd be fine with that. Those missions were pretty good. You deal with some gangsters, get to talk to Shep's mum, or intervene in a high risk showdown with a suicidal and traumatized ex-slave woman. Each one allows you to direct Shepard and define his/her character as they face parts of their past coming back to haunt.

well the article with the announcement said

"backgrounds will be in Dragon Age 3 even though you will be human, it's not playable but it does significant impact on the story."

That makes me think it will be similar to what Shepard got.

Probably like Mass Effect but hopefully a bigger impact on the world.


I wouldn't use the word "significant" if it was otherwise. I could imagine specializations and backgrounds impacting your interactions. Maybe guards will finally react when I pick a Blood Mage specialization or an Apostate background...
