Game balance...?

Sure I'd love to have a blademaster running around in full plate sword in a hand fighting like a demon and then turning people into an inferno with my other.. but damn if that wouldn't just bulldoze balance (and even the broken AW didn't work as good as that).

Having said that I'd love to see mages wear.. clothes (and hoods). instead of bathrobes/nighties. Triss be laughing at men wearing dresses.

My arcane warrior warden certainly did wear armor. Hawke had to settle with rock armor.

The champion set for mages did look like armor. It would have been nice to have similar "mage armor" pieces throughout the game for variety.

As mentioned, for balancing purposes more than anything mages traditionally are forbidden or restricted from wearing armor, or at least the heavier varieties. If mages could wear heavy armor, then the warriors should be able to cast spells. Just look at the arcane warrior to see why armored mages can become broken-ly powerful.

I understand the game balance, and class differentiation issue, but I would like to see mages wear some light armor. It makes sense that they can't wear heavy armor, but it's also stupid for them to run around on the battle field in nightgowns.
They should find some armor designs for the mages that look like a light armor and robes fusion.

That could be easily remedied by giving warriors warhammers with fire runes triggering inferno rising goodness and lyrium infused armor that gave off lightning bolts to people who got too close.  Or you know, Fenris straight up.  Dragon Age has the lore to make it balanced, they just have to show some creativity.

Fear not.

They were moving into this as evidenced by DA2 DLC [nary a robe to be found!]

I think Bioware knows Robes are stupid. But they want every class to have access to distinct styles and to be recognizable.

Hopefully they figure it out.

Mages don't have to wear heavy armour, they could have armoured robes or that smexy stuff, the Champion armour. Yeah, sure they'll won't be able to run their squishy parts away as fast, but they wouldn't be as squishy.

And everyone who is going on about class balancing, you only really need to worry about that in multiplayer games, I mean spirit warrior in Awakenings could hit for over 600 damage! Is that balanced? >.>

And the lack of balance in Awakening made the game about as challenging as waking up in the morning, ruining any challenge, aside from overwhelm deaths... bloody overwhelm.

My Mage Hawke wore armor some times it was cooler and more practical than my warriors armor. but in answer the traditions are armor hinders movement. But in Origins my mage was wearing heavy armor near the end because she was an Arcane Warrior. In DA2 it seemed they made Hawke wear light armors as a mage. Seemed more of a choice and a way to give different looks to each class than anything else.
