Background Wishlist

I'll start:
1. Chasind Barbarian- Maybe it's because I've read too much Conan, but I would really enjoy playing a muscle-bound warrior who scoffs at 'civilization'.
2. Some kind of Qunari- related background. Maybe not a Qunari character, but maybe their family was converted to the Qun or killed by it, or maybe the character was captured at some point by them.

For a serious response, I honestly don't really know. Unless it's something crazy, I can't see the character background having a huge effect on how I try to model the characters' personality.

Edit: Whether it be mage, templar or neither, I think that it could have a significant impact on your character as well as how the universe interacts with your character.

I doubt that they would give you a background that already has such a high-tier job. It means your character should already have a lot of experience under their belt, and that may interfere with roleplaying or something. Then again, Mass Effect had your character start out as a soldier of some kind with some built in assumptions, but seeing as how all the previous Dragon Age PCs have started out in 'entry level' positions, I don't think that something as highly specialized as an assassin is likely. An initiate for the Crows, maybe. A full-fledged member? Unlikely.

Elven-blooded human raised in an Alienage, or with the Dalish.
Qunari human (if I remember well there were countries where the Qun had been taught to humans), wether s/he is actually a rebel to the Qun or not...
Tevinter Circle mage
Orlesian bard/ spy
Rivaini privateer
Antivan crow
Actually, pretty anything which would differ greatly from the repellant sort of humans (nobles or commoners) I saw in Ferelden, ("Maker this, Maker that...", "You there! Knife-ears...", "Blasted foppy foreigners!", "We'll shove them -in name of all what's good, of course- because we are the bravest 'round here...", etc...)

Someone who had been in the thick of things during the battle between Templar's and mage's in Kirkwall.

I would also like something like this. I would like the background of a former Templar, and what happen at Kirkwall would give a very good background on why someone could leave the templars for something else. If you was a mage, it would give you a reason why you would have to run away from the circle. Since both would of been there when it all started, I think it would tie into the game nicely.

- Mysterious Stranger, because if you want to have an irrelevant/open ended background you should be able to.
- Then a bunch of relevant-to-the-narrative backgrounds, for example if it's the mage/templar conflict then "Ex-Templar" would be a good one, as would "apostate mage," etc. Hopefully you get the idea. Can't really get more specific without knowing more about the story.

Escaped Tevinter slave
Chasind Barbarian
Pirate or bandit
Someone who knows dwarves and has a good reputation with them (like a merchant perhaps?)
Someone who knows elves and has a good rep with them (like they helped out a clan in distress)
Disgraced and disinherited noble
Wandering scholar
Most of all I just hope we get more than three to chose from, like we had in ME. I think 5-6 is a minimum, with 9-10 being perfect, but unlikely.

STREET RAT.
I just wanna play a character who is used to fighting for survival, was forced to betray and be betrayed in the past and has lots of street smarts but no idea how to behave in an environment that doesn't involve scratching each other's eyes out for food.

I like this idea. Seems like a decent compromise between open-ended and story relevant backgrounds.

This is why I think they should consider going the ME route and have a "Childhood" choice paired with a "Career" choice.Blackrising wrote...
I'm pretty sure I mentioned this in every thread relating to origin stories since DA 3 was announced, but...:

You can make a living at punching bears? I had no idea.
Someone (I think it was Psychoblonde) made the suggestion for a bat-s**t crazy character in another thread. It was in jest and really more for tone, but I think it would make for a very entertaining background and character to play.

If I'm guessing right, the origin stories in DA3 will probably be ones that did not exist in DA:O. What I want for this game are:
Commoner
Barbarian
Apostate
Criminal (Theif, pirate, bandit you know)
Qunari related
Street Rat
And others I cant think of right now...
Why should they use the ones that did not exist in DAO? For example, if they want to make more than one background for the mage, one should be apostate, and the other Circle Mage. A Noble background is likely to return.
