What about them?

They have different faces. Because of the new engine it could be a Import problem.

Why would you assume that they'll appear at all? They're pretty minor characters now.

Imagine the epic rage on these forums if after all the collective whining they finally do appear in DA3... and are portrayed as canon!Warden and canon!Hawke.

I'm hardly on the reactionary side of the fan base, but if this happened I'd say "whining" would be justified. If BioWare aren't able to faithfully recreate something as simple our own characters gender or race, they should leave them alone and just stick to vague mentions.

I'm sure that the majoirty of fans who would like to see their PCs again would agree (albeit reluctantly) that it would be preferable to simply leave the Warden and Hawke alone than to shove them in and canonise them.

Hawke and Warden show up with "canon" looks

But that would be a good reason . A very good reason.

My guess is hawk will have default appearance but the warden will have the default look on whatever race you chose. Honestly as long as they don't make the warden a human even if he was a dwarf or elf in your playthrough I will be fine. And as long as they don't kill them. Also they would have to adapt the default appearance to the new engine

Maybe they'll need a telescope. Or binoculars? ^_^

Glasses? Maybe Hawke was near sighted. RETCON!

(although to want to sleep with Zevran and his new face, you'd have to be blind)

If they don't look like my Warden and my Hawke... I don't think they should appear in the game.

Kind of hard since at least one is dead and the other is irrelevant to the plot.

Buzzcuts and stubbles. Make them as generic as possible so people won't complain. But didn't they just declare Revan as being canonically male and The Exile as canonically female? They might do that for DA3.

Well, not "just declared". Revan was canonized as a light side male for quite a long while before we ever saw ToR. Lucas Arts' decision, I believe.

I disagree. I say no "canons". None.

I would say "not in game at all" but if they show up as NPCs, I want helmets and hoods. No indication of anything but race (human, elf, dwarf) and sex by the build of the model.

They would get in SO MUCH TROUBLE (especially in America with the skin color issue) if the Hawkes and Wardens were canonized.

Regardless of sex, both "preset" Hawkes were white. And the trailers canonized the male version (hell, they even canonized a light skinned Isabela to some people when everyone at Bioware said that was a marketing error, and that she was always supposed to be dark.)

yeah, the cannon status of Revan and the Exile was the decision of Lucas Arts and it's parent, Lucas Film.  Lucas Film wants a single defined cannon.  Bioware had nothing to do  with those calls.

What they later did to Revan and the Exile on the other hand.....

As for how the previous PC's should look, one option would be to show them from the rear.  It would be easy to get the hair and skin color right, without having to worry about the face.  Or have them in shadows, etc.

They could pull a Geth world from ME3.

Say the Inquisitor is exploring some ruins of power, and the Champion and Warden already both passed through it searching for what your searching for. You get sucked into the Fade some how and you see them. You can ask a spirit 'is that what they really looked like?' it can respond 'no it is what your conscience believes they look like since you've never seen them before' or whatever justification they want. Same thing can be applied to voicing the Warden.

Is is it an option I'm in a favor of not really, but it is something they could do.

As much as I would like to see my Warden and Hawke, I just can't see how it can be done. I have a guess, however. What if our two heroes show up with a ingame headwear that covers the face. For example:

A Warrior Warden or Hawke could wear a helmet.

A Rogue or Mage warden or Hawke could wear a hood and/or a mask.

In that sense, we should not worry too much about it.

Or they can do the "Malcolm Hawke blue spirit thing" like in Legacy.

I mean, isn't there supposed to be some magical portal weirdness (according to a German translation of a leaked plot line)

It's spelled "Rogue" not "Rouge". Just FYI.

I don't think that they can do a Warden cameo in way that I would be comfortable with it. So I'm hoping that they leave her out of the game, at least not as a NPC, references are great.
The only way would be a character creater right before she appears, but she wouldn't be silent and I don't think that they offer 127361 voices.
Hawke on the other side could work. He is more fixed, is introduced with a voice and he has one of three personalities. Since DA II is very likely the art direction they'll follow a cc right before the appearance could work.

If Hawke and the Warden are to reappear in DA3, then I hope Bioware adopts the motto "Do it right or don't do it at all". Quite frankly I'd rather not see my favourite Warden than see her botched up beyond recognition. A generic warden I didn't play would also be off-putting.

If they can't get the former PC's right, then a certain level of hand waving (cameos en masse of former companions with a mention of the former PC) would probably be a better solution.

I totally agree with all said here.

Have Hawke and the Warden captured and turned into horrible creatures (in a way consistent with the overall story in DA3). Then, when we see them again, they can reference their past actions, but look nothing like any Hawke or Warden ever.

Boom. End of problem.
