A huge demand by DA fans was that they make a game again where they can play different races and have different origins.  Instead, it's DA2 concept again which was received so poorly by the fans. Also, not surpirisingly, no origin stories but a la background briefs.  That's so lame.

Why keep handing us a bland pieces of bread when we've already had cake?

Here's a link gamersyndrome.com/2012/ps3/new-details-dragon-age-iii-inquisition/

Sorry, but we already did this thread. It ended badly.

They tried to find a comprimise. We are stuck as a Human yes but unlike DA2 we will get to choose our background. In DA2 we weren't able to customize Hawke other than his face.

I would have rather had race selection back but it isn't a deal breaker for me

Since when are elves not bland?

This should be it: http://kotaku.com/59...-dragon-age-iii

Not sure how you missed the giant thread on it that has already happened and been closed, however.

Since always. Imo, none of the races are bland, but I'd like to roleplay more. One of the biggest complaints about DA2 was the lack of different races to play as. I think they should have changed this, but there is nothing I can do.

Actually, Tsai, that thread was fairly civil. Some people disagreed, but it didn't erupt in a flame war or anything like that.

I'm not certain why Inquisition is limiting us to another human protagonist, when fans have expressed interest in the return of Origins - I think it would have been better to see Elves, Dwarves, and Kossith as optional races for the protagonist, rather than limiting us to another Andrastian human when Dragon Age II limited us to Hawke. The information about Inquisition makes it seem like they want to keep adopting elements from Mass Effect into Dragon Age, and I honestly don't see the point in doing that.

No reused maps and companion customization. I believe they were listening.

If thats really a deal breaker then I feel bad for you. The origins did one of three things. Make you normal, make you skinny with big ears or made you short and fat. Hardly did anything to the game outside of cosmetics

Gaider said that he hopes the backgrounds make it easier to work into the latter parts of the game and not just first little chunk.

If it is such a little change, why not put it again?

It may have not erupted into a flame war, but it wasn't exactly my defintion of civil. I think general rule of thumb is that if the thread is considered too hostile to keep open, then things ended badly.

Because despite the fact that the races had incredibly little influence over the actual events of the game, they still took up a good chunk of resources that can hopefully be placed elsewhere.

Not explicitly. You could be, you could not be, who knows at this point.

The way they talked on the panel it really didn't make it sound like you were doing much in direct work for the chantry if any at all. You're more like a treasure and myth hunter going to old ass places from ancient Tevinter and the Elves and looking for stuff

That was confirmed by Gaider long time ago. They said it was neither their intention making the PC expressed atheism in DAO.

If Bioware thinks that DA2's problem was just no reused maps and companion customization then they weren't listening.  We've had overwhelming polls on here in the last year and a half that supported going back to a game that allowed race selection.  Yet, it's completely ignored.  No reason given either.

I have no problems playing a human in the next game. We will have our choice of background.

I'd rather have them devote resources to the ENTIRE game.

I also think its ridiculous to judge a game that will not be out until next year.

Agree.  Why make less of a game experience if it's not a big deal then?

What reason do they have to give other than that they decided not to do it? It is they who are making the game, and they don't need to justify every decision with the fanbase.

You got to pick your background in ME as well. It had no bearing on the game whatsoever. Just a short mention here and there. Thats it.

Considering what Gaider said at the atheist thread Xil made days ago, it seems the Inquisitor will be religiously Andrastian like Hakwe was.

Probably cinematics, voice work and story related.

Making the protag human is probably a good idea. Letting people choose races severely limits what kind of story you can tell. An elven inquisitor would be ridiculous.
