Sorry, tried to search the forums first, but could not locate anything.

I just entered Denerim and am fighting those that hate the Grey Wardens right at the beginning.  At the end of the fight, two of my team are dead, and Morrigan and I are still fighting.  I think we just killed the last assassin and the game froze!  I can't even turn off the console from the controller.  I have a brand new 250GB Xbox that I bought one month ago on Black Friday.  I also bought the game that day at Best Buy.  Is this common?  I'm a new Xbox owner and am surprised this happened (yes, I know about the RROD on older machines, but I thought that was taken care of, even though that is not my problem).  I did load the game onto the harddrive if that matters.  I'm not sure if I should hit the button on the console to turn it off and hope everything is fine tomorrow, but I can't think of anything else to do.  I'd love to hear that I'm not the only person this has happened to so I don't think my console is corrupt.  Thanks for any help!

Don't worry ..it happens .I have an xbox 360 Pro for over 1 year and this problem happened only twice with one game.Power shutdown and everything should work again. It's a game error. It's not common , but if it happens once or twice in a year it's no big deal.If it's too often and with different games, now that's a problem. Anyway, the game that gave me the same freeze was know to be bugged and with a faulty game-engine.The game was also installed on the HDD. Back then I've noticed that when the freeze occured , DvD-Rom had stopped. When a game is installed on the harddrive it still needs the DVD inserted to make some security checks from time to time.Maybe it failed the last check and froze your game.Or maybe the DVD -Rom has some faults.Does yours get very noisy after you insert the disk or when you install a game on the HDD ? Mine screams like hell , like taking off and fly :))

LOL! I like your description of taking off and fly sound! No, that didn't happen. The game just stopped and all was quite. The disc was in the console of course, but I could not hear it spinning. I started playing another game a few weeks ago without installing it on the HDD first, and it was super loud, but since I installed the games, everything is quiet. When the freeze occurred, the console was quiet as well. I've had the disc in the console for the past 2 weeks without removing it since this is the game I'm playing now, I did a hard shutdown (took me awhile to figure out which button to push, LOL, I've only shut it off from the controller), and will wait till tonight to try again.

Thanks for your response! I'm feeling better that it might just be a game glitch. I don't really want to deal with a faulty console! On the other hand, I'm still bummed that I made it through that battle and it freezed right before victory. Oh well, I'll have to fight that battle another day!

You might have a faulty disc also. I have this issue alot except I get the disc is dirty error. I can usually tell when its going to happen though cause the 360s disc drive gets really silent and you can tell its not spinning or reading the disc. Luckily this only happens with DOA. Only things I can tell you is to install it on the HD, return it for another disc, or just deal with the issue and save alot so you don't have to backtrack a ton in game if you have this issue.

No need to wait, you can power up your console anytime. You got me wrong ....at that time when my game froze the disk stopped spinning and the game hanged. The rest of time when I play a disk or install a game , it starts spinning so loud just like i said :)) .It's like having a chopper trapped inside who wants to take off and fly . Other than that , the bugger works like a charm.Anyway , it's best to install your games onto the drive. This way you preserve your DVD's and because the console doesn't spins the disk all the time , it reduces the risk of overheating. Some say this thing expands the lifetime of your xbox and why not somehow prevents the RRODs .
Happy new year and good gaming in the year to come !!

If you don't get the disc dirty error , it 's a game glitch. Having installed the game on the HDD , my DVD Rom is silent all the time.Except when the game starts and sounds like an angry chopper.

Thanks for the responses! The game was installed in the HDD when this happened. I guess I'm like a new mom, and am worried about why my new baby is not working right. :) I'm only waiting until tonight to try it again because I have to get on with my day. After the shock of the freeze up, internet searching, and finding this great forum, I'm done with the game for right now. Thanks so much for your input and if it keeps up, then I think it might be a disc error, I'll look into that. I'll try it again tonight and hopefully it will work okay.

I did not get the dirty disc error, so I think you're both right that it's a game glitch. That makes me feel better!
