Discuss how this makes you feel here.

Be civil to one another.  Respect that other people have differing opinions, and this works both ways.  So if you LIKE this decision, respect that others are disappointed by it.

Rather than closing threads I'll try talking with posters whom I think are crossing the line.

I'm a little disappointed that we won't be able to play dwarves or elves. Other than it's a pretty day and the garden needs tending. As for DA3, I'm withholding judgement until more substantive things are known, such as setting, plot and who the characters are.

Rumours to the contrary, I am human, mostly, so it shouldn't be much of a stretch to play one in a computer game.

I don't like it or hate it, I simply think it's not a key issue. Lots of great games make you play as a human (or even restrict you to a single human male), and tons of mediocre games let you play as other races.

The reason why I like the Dragon Age games has little to do with whether or not I can play an elf or a dwarf, although I do feel that the elves/dwarves have kind of been marginalized in their lore importance. I'd like to see more done with them even if we can't play as them.

I'm not too upset by this. Although I do hate missing out on options. But I like playing human characters. I do make alternates of other races to experience their story/perspective/do something different. But I always main/canon a human when possible, yeah I know I'm boring.

I hope the backgrounds or whatever are way more in depth than Mass Effect's.

I love it. Given that Bioware has only a given amount of time and a given amount of resources, I would prefer to have it all spent on the main story, rather than chop back the main story to make multiple races, two of which I'll never play anyways.

Content I'll play >>>>> Content I'll never play.

I'd have preferred the choice back, but I'm not terribly broken up about it. I still enjoyed DA2. (sin of sins, I know)

Some people really want the races back, but I don't see it as a deal breaker. There are alot of great RPGs out there with a single race option. But I think I'd be more interested in seeing the actual Origins return rather than the different race options.

I'm fine with it, overall. I would have liked the option to play as different races (and I'm hoping it's a feature which will make a return in the future), but I'll live.

The only thing which would irk me however, is if we have the same level of customization and control as we did over Hawke.

I'm disapointed that I won't get to play as an elf again but this isn't a game killer.

Wisdom!  I've always wished they would do more DLC where other characters than the main game's player character was star, but I guess those don't sell well.

But... Mouses Talker.... how do you talk to mice?

Ultimately, my opinion on the racial restriction will be based entirely on how reactive the game is to our other choices such as background, specialization, and in-game decisions.

Extensive options in the character creator couldn't hurt, either.

Yeah, I'm hoping the backgrounds will have more impact on the story than the Origins did, it'll make up for not getting a playable backstory.  Might even be better, depending on how it's implemented.

I wonder if it'll tie in with specializations at all.

I'd have liked greatly the option of having race options back in DA3, but I already know that it wouldn't happen, so I was expecting to have no race option in DA3. I hope that they'll improve the PC customization, expecially in the CC, since it wasn't that good in both games.

I am indifferent, as I was likely to play as human anyway.

I like it. I never really had a problem with being only humans.

Personally, I have no problem with a human only protagonist. Although I wouldn't mind playing as a dwarf or elf again. I feel that Bioware shouldn't be surprised at the disappointment by some of it's fans after allowing us to play as any of the three races in Origins and then disallowing it in any subsequent games.

David Gaider wrote...

It's rather interesting to see some people treating the situation as dire-- as if a decision must be made about what the game is right now[/i].

You don't have to, after all. We haven't shown anything about the game at all, yet. It's easy for us to talk about things the game won't have, the ones which we're absolutely certain about, but talking about things the game does have-- like the new backgrounds-- is difficult, and thus we'll avoid doing so until we can explain them in full. Without that context, for instance, I see the backgrounds being brought up, and since the nearest examples anyone can think of are the Mass Effect backgrounds, they're discarded as irrelevant.

They're not, but until we can talk about them more, or show the many other things we do[/i] have, this is what you get. While that may make it difficult to picture the kind of game DA3 will be just yet, that's OK. If something like a lack of player races is a deal-breaker for you, if it was the thing you absolutely enjoyed most about DAO and increased customization over DA2 which doesn't include that just doesn't cut it for you, then consider yourself duly warned.

If you'd prefer to wait until you see more, and until then remain skeptical, that's entirely fair. The default opinion of any self-respecting Internet-dweller is skepticism, after all-- if the game is exactly as bad as you predicted, you get to be a prophet. If it's not, then you get to be pleasantly surprised. These are better options for most than being disappointed. If, however, you wish to declare that all is lost and move on, that's also fair. Hopefully once we start showing the game you'll see things you like, and they'll be explained so you can actually imagine the work that went into them-- which is plenty. We've had to make many decisions between what we can and can't do, all with an eye to improving the overall experience of DA3.

Such a reveal is not going to happen anytime soon, however. So if you're waiting to be convinced, you're likely going to have to wait quite some time yet. There are still many, many months to go before you need to make a decision on anything. That's not going to stop anyone, of course, but if you're bewildered why BioWare isn't rushing in to prove you wrong, that would be why.

I agreed 100 % with Gaiger here. This is my case. I will just wait what they have to show us in the future about the game .I'll give them a chance to surprise me with a game that I can enjoy completely and really I will not be waiting another DA origin for several reasons...
and finally i know i know my english sucks but i have to say this be well people

I am not exactly pleased with Biowares decision to go Human only and I dont believe that story reasons are the main reason for this decision.

A company as good as Bioware should be able to create a story where your choice of race can be any of the main races.

It does seem that Bioware has decided to go a more mass effect route for there games which is their right, but at the same time they should not say they plan and having the best of Origins and DA2.

Since we are Inquisitor, i can't imagine anyone else then a human there. Had to be them - someone else might have gotten it wrong.

Doesn't really matter, without a different back-story for each race. I just want a good story.

Lol, when I saw the thread in my feed I was about to post "What, yet ANOTHER thread about this, knock it off BSN!!!".... until I saw who and why it was made.

Anyway, totally indifferent, I would've played human anyway and race choices have never determined how much I enjoy an RPG (gender choice, now yea, THAT matters to me).
