In addition to everything everyone else has said, I think you have to play an aggressive Hawke to get Varnell to believe you'll side with him.TsaiMeLemoni wrote...

How do you avoid her death? I am going through a new playthrough right now, and would actually like to see Petrice survive.
Thanks for the additional tip! I don't really like Petrice, but I do like variability.

And people complained about not having choices in DA2, if you don't even try other options, then of course there is no choice!

You have to be a complete dick, but if you side with her and the Templars every time then it's possible she could live.
I'd rather not see her again in a cameo though. These voice actors don't work FOR FREE. And money spent on some characters who may or may not appear could be better spent on characters who always appear.
Yes Bioware, it is obvious from your previous games voice actors list that you spend far too much money on all the additional voices actors and should basically shorten it so you just hire the protagonist, party members and main antagonist voice actors to do everything, Viscious has spoken, make it so...

on topic- besides Petrice living what else happens if you side with Varnell. Any dialogue change with the Arishok or something like that?

She says so herself, she's no longer a Mother, but forming a radical, anti-Qunari splinter Chantry. Therefore, she may well have left Kirkwall by the time Anders destroyed the Chantry.

I'm pretty sure its from talking to her in act3 or comes up in the final mission that she's not present.
I could be wrong and rembering incorrectly, but I know its never stated she died in the explosion, and seeing as she was stripped of her rank, good chance she was never present in the Chantry.

Your Hawke has to have a default aggressive personality, just FYI. You could change it in console.

Yeah I'm making the playthrough where I sided with Petrice and Varnell my personal canon, mostly just because it's so different to my Warden's personality and decisions.

I tried to spare Sister Petrice, but everytime I killed her or made the Qunari kill her. She was a nuisance and I doubt her actions would've been good for the Chantry's reputation on the long run. Elthina represented faith better.
Did not realize YOU could kill her. Does that require a set personality? I wanted to kill her too, the most satisfying one I get is fireballing Varnell to death.

Don't think you can personally kill her, think the worst you can do is bruise her while rival-mancing herPalipride47 wrote...

It possibly the most hidden option in the game to save her, i dont expect her to show up. On my 3rd playthrough i decided to play "Horrible Bastard Hawke" and loved that option.
Would be great if she takes the place of a key cleric/mother in Da3 if she survived.
Hopefully BW didn't forget she could live
