It's not really a matter of "letting." All Hawke needs to do is be angry about Seamus' assassination, and she gets shot by a qunari who walks in and then walks out again.
Exactly, the player has no ability to stop the assassination, he/she just stands there. He/she also has no recourse at all to do something about it other than accept it and do nothing. BioWare made a wrong assumption on that part of the game. That everyone would cheer and applaud Petrice getting killed.
So.. that Petrice..

She expresses neither a positive view on mages or a negative view. Being a member of the Chantry it's likely her view is neutral on the subject. Both follow the teachings of the Maker, so Petrice would of had no issue with them, it's only heathens she expresses a dislike for..
There are members of the Chantry who holds prejudice and disdain in regards of the mages. And Petrice isn't following the teachings of the Maker very good to begin with.

Why would you even want to keep her alive? She's a xenophobic zealot that needs to be put down.
Why wouldn't you? Without these characters, the game would be Animal Crossing without any form of conflict. These horrible characters like Petrice, Isolde and Vaughn might inspire great hatred amongst the fan base, but that's what makes them great, because they can inspire these strong feelings.

Isolde wasn't horrible. She didn't want to lose her child. She was stupid to act in the way, and she was certainly responsible for what happened (though Loghain and Jowan have more responsibility) but she wasn't at the same level of Vaughn and Petrice.

To be fair, she thinks she's doing right by the Maker, as many terrorists or other zealots do, by attacking the thing that threatens what they believe so strongly in, (i.e. the Qunari). I don't think she's evil, she's more like a religious Loghain in my opinion.
And she'll likely have strong opinions against malifcarum, but the main threat is Qunari. If anything, she'll enlist the help of blood mages to stop the Qunari, and then turn on them when she can.

She was kind of horrible, as an elf, I vaguely remember her saying soemthing fairly racist, but she did make lots of people hate her, which was my point. (I know I liked to use Jowan's ritual

I forgot she was racist, though I don't think it was on the same level of Vaughn. And I doubt it was on the same level of racism as the merchan in Ostagar, who was looking for a redhead female elf, and accuse me even if I was male.
And I'm not saying that Vaughn and Petrice are horrible because their racist, but because of their actions.

Yeah that's what I'm saying. I'm saying they're horrible, but not exactly for all the same reasons. Vaughn for his out right evil, racist venom, Isolde for all her many, many flaws as a person and Petrice for her religious fanaticism. That's a weird word, by the way.

I fail to see why Petrice is evil and horrible lol, shes only a **** towards a spoilt brat and a barbaric heathen race lol
The "barbaric" race is more advanced then humanity. And people should have the freedom to believe what they will. Her opinion on the dalish (and maybe dwarves) is the probably the same of the one she has about the qunari. And between the humans and the dalish, the society who treat a certain part of the citizens of their society as (which often aren't too different from the Tevinter slaves) is the human's.

Isolde and Vaughn are two of the most hated character in Origins. They're not the best NPC in Origin at all.
And I don't remember saying that I hate her (if I used the word, I didn't intend to use it). I wan to kill her because I think she deserved it. My Hawke never hated her. He considered her a stupid person who was embracing her death with her actions. He was more bothered by the mouse in Gamlen's house than by Petrice.

We've been over this, she left the Chantry to oppose the Qunari more directly, (but still remaining firmly Andrastian).

Nope I think that if you keep her alive, she leaves the chantry in the act 3 before what happened. She wasn't anymore with Eltina and she wanted to create a schism.FINE HERE wrote...
