There are a few german game sites with information about the first big addon for dao. they say it continues the story, name is the awakening and it would offer 15hours of gametime (mainstory) released in march 2010.

Interesting.

It would be great if it was true. But I would be surprised if they could create a major expansion so quickly.

With the size of the team dedicated to DAO and the tools already in place, creating a 15 hour expansion is very much possible. However, even if they plan to release it in March, they won't meet the release deadline, as usual :)

Wish I knew German.  Translation tools on search engines don't cut it at all.:(

If it is true I have to say kudos to Bioware for making not only a highly addictive game, and continuing to support it with content. BUT ALSO kudos for making your own rolling economy... I mean damn Dragon age is a gold mine waiting to be exploited with the fans and the love for this game if they just keep cranking out sizable content people like me are just gonna keep on buying it!

Here's something I just read which might prove helpful.

Thanks, OP! However, the blurb is little more than a post you would see on these forums. It distinctly says that their source is the same rumor we've been hearing-- some Czech site has Awakenings as the first post-main quest Xpack. So we've still only got one point of information, which could be pure junk.

Now that the rational, cautious part of my brain is satisfied:

WOOOT XPACK! WEEE!

One thing that confuses me about that link... If we play as a new character for the addon, why is the level cap raised? Unless there is new content for the game itself (with your main) I don't see how you could get a new character above level 20 in 15 hours anyway.

I'm hopeful this is genuine but there are some big questions about it that we have to wait for Bioware to answer methinks.

I doubt if any of this is true, since when does Bioware let this much info slip so far in advance.

I'm thinking maybe it means you can play the new content as an entirely new character with a new origin or you can continue the story and play it as one of your existing characters with the level cap raised.

The game's scaling for enemy mobs would allow you to do that.

You should speak to Sony about their Motion Controller big secret before E3...or the PSPGO....oh wait.
Sometimes, information isnt slipped...its leaked.

Myself, l will keep an open and somewhat hopeful mind

I hope its true. But it seems like a big undertaking with potentially a lot of voiceacting, translation, polish, testing and certification.

And in recent months Bioware staff would already be busy with the Christmas break, crunching to get three versions released in November, DLC releases, monitoring feedback and making patches.

Presumably they would have started development on it quite early. Maybe this was what the writers and designers were working on in the second half of the year. Rather than all of them working on Warden's keep or pre-development of DA2.

its pointless to raise the level cap if we have to create a new character for a 15 hour expansion. i hope we can continue our previous characters.

I'm a bit cautious about believing the original source. Partly because I know nothing of them and anyone can create a web page that looks legit, partly because the original source says the level cap is currently 20 when it's 25, and partly because of the bit about having to start as a new character unless the translation is off and it's supposed to mean that there's a new origin to choose from. So while I'm hopeful that there will be an expansion pack soon, I won't hold my breath just yet.

5 months? Bioware must be busting some chops. Like Jenna says, kind of sketchy.

Firstly zero reason to "raise" the level cap for a new character in a 15 hour expansion. Even though they're wrong about what the cap is anyways.

Second I doubt the claim they would create a new character for a 15 hour expansion, I just don't see anyway that's enough time to get a full story through the way Gaider and Bioware like to do, 15 hours is about from the start of DA:O to the end of Lothering if you do everything and speak to everyone. No way they'd get an origin/backstory, build up a new character's story, have a decent plot, and end it all cleanly in 15 hours. UNLESS, it's planned to be episodic, which is possible.

It is possible they got it done for March, they've got a pretty large team there and development could have started several months before the games release. So technically speaking it possible it could be released in March, the finer details don't seem to make much sense and are kind of counter to the usual Bioware style, plus it's not exactly rumors coming from a reliable source posted on a world class website. Possible, but I'm taking this with a grain of salt and not getting my hopes up. Chris and Bioware love to slap down rumors, see what wording he uses if/when he comes in about this one.

The age of the Expansion is dead. Sad, but true. I wouldn't put any stock into this. Every company just wants to jump on the DLC bandwagon these days.

Also I don't know where people get this crazy hourage from. I played the game through and read everything, opened everything, listened to everyone talk, did every sidequest and didn't skip anything and I got it done in 41 hours.

No idea how it takes people longer than that.
