I still don't see how a simple stab can kill him though, because in his short story he gets a sword shoved through his torso up to the hilt, and he specifically says "I am not of mortal men." I know it could have been Vengeance saying that, but still, the body of Anders lived! I'm so confused D:

I thought it was confirmed if you killed Anders he is dead for good this time? I mean Justice/Vengeance may still be in his body so that could explain it.

I actually had a perma-party of Isabela and Varic with a switch of Fenris or Anders depending on who I needed and I STILL hated the little SOB.

Just... Argh! When I played Awakening and I'd heard that Anders was a bi-LI, I'd considered making my Hawke gay and having him Romance Anders, but GAH!

Awakening: "Uhhhh... I didn't do it." I LOVE YOU ALREADY!

DAII: "I've removed compromise because there is no compromise!" ...If there wasn't a compromise, What the hell did you remove then? And, Can we PLEASE have a snarky remark? Just one? PLEASE?!

Just... Goddamn it Anders! This entire thing might have been sorted out right there! The Grand Cleric would have had to pick a side this time based on how they were already escelating with Meredith and Orisino. If you'd waited an hour or so...

Well I think the short story was before the events of DA2, so I don't see how his getting stabbed would result in his death if he's beaten a sword stab before :? But at the end of DA2, he's still posessed by Vengeance, so how would Hawke's stabbing be different? I know one could argue that in the short story Anders had been taken over by Vengeance, so this gave him immortal qualities, but it seems like he still defied the odds with that bleeding hole in his chest :P

I stabbed him and twisted the blade. God damn it. I will be deeply surprised if he strolls back into my life in Da3.

Anders: Is that supposed to be Andraste's face on your crotch?.....*some dialogue*....I'm just not sure I'd want the Maker seeing me shove His bride's head between my legs every morning. :D

Anders: Of course, we'll say, "We're staging a daring prison break. Could you tell us where our friend is and then tie yourself up? Thanks!" :D

Must've saved all the snarky awesomeness for DLC then......:(.....It is really weird playing MOTA with Act 3 moody Anders, just 180 degree personality flip (especially when romanced)

Oh, yeah. Forgot about that, huh.....

I guess Gaider said so, so the end. Kinda how that works in DA universe.

I didn't ever have him in a party with Sebastian and I only brought him with me for Legacy. He did a terrible job as healer during Legacy for some reason.

Anyways, a handful of snarky remarks does not a defining character trait make. Almost every line Anders spoke in Awakening was snarky or light hearted with only a handful of serious conversations.

Dragon Age II, he was constantly being a downer dianna and going on about the mages. I don't think I've honestly disliked a character so much, but props to Carver for saying "Take your plight and shove it". The fact that I he was one of my top 5 companions before DAII didn't help matters.

It still comes down to the fact that the character was barely recognisable.

If Anders ever returns, I honestly want his old persionality back and some lampshade from Cadandra or someone about how Varic made him out to be annoying or something.

But....but.....spirits makes you debbie downers with Cullen (of the Vampire Edward variety) levels of romantic obsession.......

The point was, he was not supposed to be his "old self". He's a "moody possessed vagrant in the sewers" (haha, Isabela). He changed into that annoying person. I think some of his dialogue in DA2 kinda references how he used to be "selfish" in DAA. His appearance is also a conduit (right word?) to show his personality shift. And he shifts between Acts to the even more-crazy variety (stupid spirit)

Annoying, duh!

But
A. It touched that lady brainz in my lady mindz that make me want to snuggle and fix him with my boobs.....<3<_< (curse you ladybrainz!!!!!)

B. We need SOMEONE to blow up the Chantry.

I know, it's upsetting. :( But I actually doubt Elthina would have chosen a side, she can't do that when they are all the Maker's children. A mother doesn't choose sides when raising children, she attempts to guide them down the right path. She would have sent the children in their corners again, leaving Anders (the middle child) fuming with the lack of "real" punishment and answers. She did say she feels for the mages, but according to Chantry law they have to remain in the Circle, and she must acquiesce; she may be respected, but her power is lacking in that regard. Only the Divine I believe can change the rules, but I don't think that'll happen since she was prepared to start a holy war with Kirkwall.

I somewhat doubt that Meredith would have taken that as an answer. I question weather she might have accused Elthina of being under the influence of Blood Magic as she does with the Templars in the ending. I believe it was at the breaking point before Anders even entered stage right.

And, to the other poster whos name is asent due to my typing out this post, No, We didn't need anyone to blow up the Chantry. I'm sorry but, I believe that the ending did a lot of unneeded things, such as the Lyrium Sword making Meredith crazy and Orisino working with Hawk's Mother's killer and turning to Blood Magic. They weren't needed at all.

Meredith was already belivably crazy before the Lyrium Idol came into play and it leaves a lot more questions than answers. Why did she buy the idol from Bartrand? Why did she make it into a Sword? How much influence has this had on her exactly? On top of that, She was depicted as crazy back during Act I, so adding the Idol Sword to say "She's crazy" over does it. It kills her character a bit. She was no longer and Axe Crazy Commander but a simple puppet.

Orisno suuddenly turning to Blood Magic, bringing up working with Hawke's Mother's Murderer, and then attacking Hawke and Co... Why? What did this accomplish? And, Where was the proper foreshadowing on any of this? Orisino has been calling out Meredith for accusing every mage she sees as a Blood Magic user and suddenly he is one? And, What's with the Harveter? How does Orisino do this? The Harvesters from Golems of Amgarrak seemed to be either Darkspawn or another creature entirely. Just... wat? Complete 'wat' to working with the killer? What did that do for his character as well?

Lastly, We didn't need the Chantry to be bombed. Meredith and Orisino confront the Grand Cleric. She either refuses to take sides or something of the like. Orisino and Meredith break out into a fight and the Grand Cleric gets hit in the cross fire. Orisino and Meredith blame the other for her death Meredith enacts the right of Anullment before both leave the Chantry. Before the Grand Cleric dies, She tells Hawke to stop them before they start a war.

Ta da! We're right back to the game as usual and we don't have any uneeded plot twists with still the needed ammount of dramatic flair.

It was sarcasm (if you were addressing me, I'm a bit narcassistic). I forgot one of these things -> :P<_<

I get what they were trying to do with him. And it is annoying, and I miss Awakening Anders, but c'est la vie.....:( We have a new game for characters that they can pull in and butcher.....

True. He went in a completely gloomy mode  only in Act 3 (though some hindsights were shown after his quest in Act 2).

I don't think he will return even if he survives, his role was finished in the end of DA2.

Besides, he won't be the rebellions leader, too many mages hate his decition, I'm fairly sure Rhys will lead it if he survives Asunder.

For my main playthrough, both Rhys(Assunder didn't happen, as Wynne and Shale are dead) and Anders are dead, so if any leader of rebelion - it will be someone else i think. Maybe a double agent for Tevinter Imperium, that you will have to root out.

How Rhys could be dead is Asunder didn't happen? I don't know what happened  here (probably Wynne and Shale saved him considering your post) but he could've been saved in a lot of different ways. I could understand if Evangeline is dead in your playthrough, since Wynne is fundamental to save them.
Anyway, I think that the main results and elements of Asunder will be considered canon, whith some slight change depending on the import.

Ohhhhhh good point! Meredith was crazy enough to do such a thing, I'm sure.

As for Meredith buying the idol, I'd think she would have bought it as a...well...reward for herself maybe. She is a very prideful character, and wrathful, so I'd think she would search and make a a weapon that could embody herself. Or maybe the idol spoke to her as it did to Bartrand and Varric. Why it speaks to certain individuals, I have no idea.

And Orsino originally was not mean to be a boss unless Hawke joined the Templars. Which, to me, makes the most sense. It made no sense to me as to WHY he turned to blood magic, it just didn't flow with his character unless the above occured. With Hawke at his side and the defeat of the templars invading the tower, I'd think Orsino would have had some hope. (Also, I wish he had more screen time - he seems like a fascinating character.)

And oh, but we NEEDED the Chantry to blow up! That, topped with the missing Warden and impending invasion of Ferelden from Orlais, why not throw in a mage rebellion?

My character is going to have SO much to do...

Bolded - I was joking. So very joking.

As for Orsino turning to blood magic, Gaider said we needed another boss, so Orsino now hopeless, desparate, and "giving in."

Also, they didn't want to have people feel that you were picking good v. bad if you sided with mages v. templars

EDIT: fact-fixing

Anders should've spread his stupidity in regard of possession to Hawke, in this case.

If he survived Anders's death in DA2 and has even a bit of brain, it should know to that it should be as far away from my Hawke as possible.
