My mage is still running around in the gear she left the mage tower with...conehead sucks LOL

What should I be on the look out for with her?  I've got her specializing in cold, healing, glyphs, an occasonal hex, and virtulant walking bomb.  She's got group heal as well...thinking about taking arcane warrior or blood mage, but can't make up my mind there.

Also, I've been having some issues with friendly fire....stuff like accidently freezing or mass paralyzing my own party members.  Oops!  Any tips on how to...um...not do that?  :crying:

Go to Denerim and visit the Wonders of Thedas shop. You'll find some pretty decent mage gear in that store.

Well the best tip I can give you is not to... erm... aim a spell at your team members. Just pause the game and carefully aim your AoE spell.

Haha yeah, I paued and carefully aimed my cone of cold...and promptly blasted my party members as they ran through it.  Was kind of funny actually, but sucked without threat being built by Alister.

Ok some useful spells :-)

Cone of Cold is a very good spell. Did you know that there are Spell Combo's? For example: if you use Glyph of Paralysis and then Glyph of Repulsion on the same spot you get a massive paralyze combo.

Arcane Warrior requires a lot of planning and experience so I would only recommend it for a 2nd or 3rd playthrough. So if I'd were you I would go for Blood Mage or simply no second specialization at all.

Cone of Cold + Virulent Walking Bomb is a very deadly combination. You can use a spell like Rockfist or Crushing Prison to instantly kill a frozen enemy (shatter them) which triggers the VWB spell.

Yep, I did that spell combo to paralyze everyone around me...didn't realize it was a friendly fire spell.  again, a funny moment.  Oops!

I like that VWB set up...I'm just concerned about blowing up Alister in the process.

Arcane warrior spec is great. You are only really picking the class for the shimmering shield talent which makes your blood mage nigh unkillable. I've just been messing about with the evon's plate male and wades superior heavy armor and it is quite ridiculous. 30 armor without buffs and 58 with rock armor and shimmering shield. Fatigue rating is only 18.4% with both buffs and blood magic activated.

Arcane warrior does sound like fun. Something about being dang near unkillable while slashing and nuking is...intoxicating.

I wouldn't bother with slashing tho, as Bas273 pointed out, it is a tougher build which tends to gimp your spell casting abilities. Spells are much more useful and dish out more damage than any melee weapon the arcane warrior can field.

A point I might add regarding what I spoke of earlier. 58 armor is actually too much. I am going to throw that on a warrior instead and pick up the reapers vestments. Reapers vestments have no fatigue penalty +6 con +12 armor and a slew of other decent stats. You also can wear magus boots and black hand gauntlets for increased VWB mayhem.
