In a perfect world, Forever! Realistically Bioware hasn't sustained any series for more than a couple games and I have a feeling it'll be done with in the next game or two.

I'd rather they eventually move on to a new IP than have Dragon Age XXIVB3.1 or whatever Final Fantasy is up to these days.

Well, yeah.  It's a bit like:

Woman: "I'm pregnant!"
Person:  "That's interesting.  How many more kids are you going to have after this one?"

There's a lot of potential for games occurring in Thedas. Although, trying to keep up with import saves might pose a problem. At some point.

I used to think Thedas was the name given to the world, it's not. It's only one of the continents. There is alot to still explore in the DA universe if they wanted, by the end of DA3 we will only of covered about 1/3rd of Thedas across 3 games.

Then theres prequels, wouldn't mind seeing the fall of the elves first hand.

The way Gaider made the DA world,it could keep going with a different plot and threat in each game.Though I imagine that they would eventually have to move on to the next age.Personally I want another Blight,I don't care if they have to fast forward a few hundred years...(cough)insert age here-______Age:Origins(cough)

Depends on how popular DA3 is really.

They probably have a "Dragon Age Bible" with conflicts and interesting characters for each region that they can pick up on for the various stories along with threads that go across various games like Flemeth/Morrigan as one thread and Qunari/Tevinter conflict as another. So as long as it's profitable and as long as Bioware isn't bored with it they probably plan to keep churning out stories like its James Bond or Final Fantasy or some D&D setting.  I imagine it's not a trilogy because they want to make more than three games, and they figure that's easier without a central character that they have to keep justifying their use of.

Its the tale of Thedas. I imagine that there's a grand overarching plot that the writers want to tell, and after that there may be a few games that finish fleshing out the universe, but at some point I'd think the writers would want to at least take a break from the IP. Not to say that the setting would be abandoned, just that the current writing team or Bioware would no longer be working on it. Neverwinter Nights and KoToR both had sequels made by an entirely different company.

I never thought that any of the Dragon Age games are direct sequels.  More like various stories of adventures that have taken place in the world of Thedas.  With that being said I can see a variety of games coming out that take place with in the Age of Dragons, (Dragon Age), or in Ages from before.  I would not mind seeing how things come about years, decades or centuries before Origins.  If they take their time in development and writing the game this could be really successful.  But thats just my two cents..

This question is like asking how many inches of snow we'll get. Fortunately, you don't have to shovel games. Unfortunately, you don't have to pay for snow.

They'll likely keep going until people either stop buying them or the zombie apocalypse hits.

You never know. If zombies like video games, they could be the next target audience.

I'd love to see a Walking Dead/Dragon Age cross-over.

Rick: Has anyone seen Carl? I've been all over Redcliffe and I can't find him.
Lori: I think he said something about going oo poke a walking corpse with a stick.
Rick: MAKER'S BREATH, CARL, STAY IN THE CHANTRY!

lol.

I figure I'll just go on expecting that there will be at least one more than whatever they've currently got in development.  That way when the series ends I can post an angry thread about how they betrayed my expectations.

Depends on how well this game does I'd say.

If it flops I'd say EA will think long and hard on if the series is worth continuing.

if it succeeds who knows?

It's been stated that DA isn't planned as a trilogy. Anyone else wonder what exactly it is planned as? It doesn't seem like there's a continual story arc running through the series, considering how disconnected origins and 2 were. It seems like Bioware are setting up a world, and then telling seperate stories in it. If DA 3 wraps up the "mages vs. templars" plotline, what will come next? A qunari invasion? Another Blight? More importantly, do they have a definite ending in mind for the series, or will they just stop once they run out of ideas/money? What do you think the long-term future of the franchise will be?

I think it was planned as a world to tell many different stories in much like the various D&D worlds like Dragonlance, Ravenloft, Planescape, Greyhawk and Forgotten Realms were.

I wouldn't mind BioWare devoting a succession of three consecutive games in order to create a Dragon Age Trilogy somewhere down the road. I think that would be the best use of Save File Transfers, especially if the same character is the protagonist in all three games. It would be even neater if each game featured a unique protagonist, but the characters from previous games had significant roles, either in extended cameos or even as members of the party. Okay, maybe I'm getting a little carried away...

I can't help but wonder what BW's plans for Mass Effect might be, post-trilogy, for that matter. :alien:

I just hope Dragon Age 3 is successful (and more importantly good) because Bioware is kind of in the hot-seat with a chain of negatively received products (DA2, ME3, TOR). Let's be honest EA's done it multiple times before and I doubt they'd have any hesitance to shut down Bioware if they can't follow through. I miss my old Bioware ;_; </3
