By the way, some of us are running a Role playing game here set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, shortly after the Avengers. Anyone interested?

So, any tips on easily getting into Marvel? If it helps to be specific I am more interested in the following: X-Men, The Punisher, Daredevil, and Hawkeye.

Well Marvel NOW!(aka definitely not New 52) starts soon so there will be quite a new books released.

Right now I would recommend

Daredevil-Easily the best book out right now. Mark Waid is terrific. It manages to break the old mold of Daredevil being a crime noir character and is just plain fun. Waid gets bonus points for making one of he most ridiculous villains actually interesting. Issue 17 would be a good start.

Scarlet Spider- Follows the clone of Spider-man Kaine. Great writing, Kaine is a great character, and the art is fantastic, especially the Ryan Stegman issues. Issue 1 is ideal, but it is hard as hell to find, so you could just buy the graphic novel and then go with issue 7.

Venom- Flash Thompson as Venom is actually really good. Issue 23 is a good jumping on point, but if you can find back issues, go for them.

Hawkeye- This is a relatively new series and is pretty good. It is only at issue 3, so I'd pick up 1 if you can find it.

Captain Marvel- Carol Danvers is quite nice in this book. The artist for issues 1-4 is really damn good. You should start at 1 if you can, but it is hard to find a first print and 2 is a good jumping on point.

Uncanny Avengers- First Marvel NOW! comic. It features a team of Avengers and X-men, and was honestly much better than I expected. The last panel made me laugh my ass off. It was just released, so finding 1 should be quite easy.

New titles in the months to come....

Indestructible Hulk- Mark Waid is on this so It will be pretty damn good. It comes out in November.

Avengers & New Avengers(next volume)- due December and January respectively, Avengers titles are a mainstay of Marvel and these two books are at least worth trying.

X-Men/X-Force- There are going to be quite a few X titles out, so I would just do some research and decide on which one you would be most interested in. IIRC, four new series will be launched soon.

Thunderbolts- Team book that features Red Hulk, Electra, Punisher, Venom, and Deadpool. Should be good.

Iron Man/Thor:God of Thunder/Captain America- all three have promising creative teams and what looks to be interesting first arcs. I'd at least check out the first issue of whichever ones you think might interest you.

Superior Spider-Man- This one I would be very cautious about. There is a chance that Peter Parker will not be Spider-Man(I have a sneaking suspicion that Dan Slott is trolling), which IMHO is a horrible idea and probably not something I would read. Dan Slott is a competent enough writer and Ryan Stegman is the artist on the first 3 issues, so those will be worth checking out at least. Another warning: you will either love or hate Humberto Ramos' art, and he is going to be one of the three artists working on this title.

For DC(try to start all at 1 or 0)

Superboy- Excellent book, far better than any Superman titles.

Demon Knights- Best DC book out right now, this one I would definitely try to start with 1.

Firestorm- Probably the easiest book to start at 0 with besides the books that launched last month(DC's zero month), first 12 issues are pretty much an origin, 0 starts off the characters "true" incarnation, and 13 is out tomorrow.

Phantom Stranger- launched last month, and only 0 and 1 are currently released, a refreshing break from the standard DC characters.

Surprised Light Yagami dosent win that fight up there...The Death note is the most overpowered thing ever.

Yeah, don't think it would work on the guy in the pic...given that

Spoiler

Light also needs to stay alive long enough to find out the name and has to know the face.

I suppose...I think...who is that guy?
I don't watch much Anime. Is it the Pegasus dude from Warriors of the Zodiac or whatever?

Knights of the Zodiac.
The guy would be Phonix Ikki.

I can also see Hulk, Superman, Alucard, Goku, Cloud, Galacticus, Jane Grey on the image.
And a gunblade which belons to that other emo FFcharacter.

Power Girl>Superman>Supergirl>Superboy.

Hal>Guy>Kyle>John. But if we go off cartoons(and we should) John is the best GL.

Every Flash is awesome.

Flash Thompson as Venom>every other Spider-Man character.

What? I think Power Girl is a fun character. Sure Superman is more interesting and he has a great history to him, and I do like him as a character when he is done right. But I just really like cool, fun characters. Too bad that retconboot killed her off.

As for Flash, now he is more interesting and likeable than Spider-Man is. It's a sad thing about Spider-Man, his side cast gets more character development than he does.<_<

I haven't read Marvel in years. I have a number of Spider-Man stuff from the 80's and early 90's, plus some Iron Man and Captain America. My brother was a big X-Men fan, so I read alot of the late 80's and early 90's issues. In the early 2000's I was collecting Spider-Man again due to J Michael Strazcynski's run, but swore off Spider-Man comics altogether after that abysmal excuse for a story known as One More Day. Ugh. On the plus side though, I immensly enjoyed Ed Brubaker's run on Captain America.

As for DC, I was never a big follower of them. I did read a lot of the Batman stuff my brother collected from late 80's to early 90's, but nothing else. But the stuff DC has done as of late has me shaking my head. Hal Jordan and Barry Allen returning? Multi Colored Lanterns? Emo Superboy? No thanks. But the New 52 looks to be off to a promising start.

What is even more sad is that he is still a nice guy and has some good arcs here and there... It's just now OMD makes me sick to even look at the character.

Honestly its pretty typical for the votes to go towards the side of MARVEL
1.Connection:
a.(with a "dark/edgy" past) most people can relate to that
b.more or so common to slighty above average person, so lifestyle and mindset seems familiar.with the exception of some here and there
c.the heros while trying to protect all, will kill and some will deal with the loss.either regret, while the other has a thirst for blood.
d.the universe

2.Setting:
a.seems more real to the reader
b.interesting spins from our world to the comic, take nyc for example
c.politics and the way the law is carried out

marvel is more relatable to most, rather then DC.

Simlpy DC has a high lifestyle appel for most of its characters.so called "honor" and too imaginative when it comes to handling with "evil" doers.

sometimes the badguy should just be shot and killed

Since the retconboot the DC heroes are a little bit "better" when it comes to morality. You know like, killing when it needs to be done and stuff.

Marvel on the other hand... So what have we learned from Civil War? Iron Man wasn't evil enough.

Then again, why should I care about Xavier? I'd probably care more if Xavier wasn't a d!ck on a high horse who kept slaves, mindwiped people and sent children to their deaths. He had it coming.

But hey AVENGERS ARE AWESOME YEAH!!!!! Right, Marvel?

So.its called a humant nature, and if i was Xavier i would do the same damn thing
your high horse o believeing people are capable of pure peace and harmony is very dumb to say the least.

DC is controlled by the pure captialist agenda and foundation of BS morality.

yea the avengers are awesome, your point being.

You didn't hit anything.

Human nature? What?

Who said anything about "pure peace and harmony", I am just saying being a d!ck is being a d!ck.

DC and Marvel don't make that much anymore, MLP comics sell more. So they really suck at this whole capitalist agenda stuff. And I was talking about writing.

Mr. Fantastic, the smartest man alive, said the Avengers were being whiny little b!tches because they weren't on top anymore.

The whole AvX thing really came off pretty bad. Neither side came out looking very good in my opinion. For the most part, I'm just ignoring it.
