Mages go into battle with robes on. They might as well be wearing bikinis. A cloth robe is not going to offer you any protection against and steel tipped arrow or heaven forbid a battleaxe. I think if anyone is allowed to have impractical armor, it is mages.
Also, as mentioned in this thread, rogues encompass more than one idea. A rogue can be the swashbuckler who fights straight up with quickness and finesse. A rogue can also be a stealthy chap/ess who stikes from the shadows and is never even seen. A rogue can also be a master of disguise who uses deception and seduction rather than fighting outright in the first place. There really is no way to say "This is how rogue armor should look."
