I've finished most of the elf forest quest but can't beat the boss. I had trouble traveling cause of the fights on the road. Where could I go to gain some good XP? Lots of short easy quests or a zone I can keep playing for fights?

Thanks!

"Grinding" does not exist.

There are some small quests in Denerim if you haven't been there. There's the chantry board, the mage's collective, mercenary group I can't recall the name of. . . If you can make it to Denerim without a deadly random combat you should be able to get some experience before returning to the forest.

This is not a level grinding game...

If you are on PC (not sure if it works on other platforms) you can get "grind-like" exp by buying elfroot and giving it to the elven emissary? in the camp. after all, without console, gold is grind-like property.

by fights on the road I assume you mean "random encounters" and those mostly occur, for reason which is beyond me well not really, at the beginning of the game.

keep playing for the fight. you can do it

To Grind XP:

Finish Brecilian Forest and side with the elves.

Buy MANY stacks of Elfroots

Go to the "Allied Supply Crates" and give them the stacks of Elfroots (1 deposit = 1 stack)

You get about 900 xp per stack.

It's difficult for the original poster to do the infinite Elfroot leveling quest when he has yet to defeat the final boss for Nature of the Beast.

That being said, which 'boss' are you referring to? There's four possible fights:

1. Dalish Camp - Witherfang/Swiftrunner (Ally) vs. Zathrian/Elves
2. Lair of the Werewolves - Zathrian (Ally) vs. Witherfang/Swiftrunner/Werewolves
3. Lair of the Werewolves - Zathrian/Wild Sylvans (Werewolves frozen)
4. Lair of the Werewolves - Witherfang/Swiftrunner/Werewolves (Without Zathrian)

1 and 2 are slightly easier since you get help from friendly NPCs. If you side with Witherfang (1), however, you won't be able to do the elfroot quest that you can use to Level all the way to 25. You can still donate gold coins though (at a much higher cost per xp).

Allied Supply Crates is a very boring way to level other then that this game isn't designed for level grinding lol. Guess you could do Duncan glitch with Darkspawn blood too. :P

The Duncan infinite experience glitch was fixed in 1.02.

The infinite Elfroot/gold donations (which they say is a 'design oversight' instead of a glitch), the Mountaintop zone infinite experience glitch and the Uldred respawn glitch still exist, however.

The mountaintop zone glitch being the one during the urn of sacred ashes quest where zoning in and out of the temple or something nets experience each time?

What is the Uldred respawn glitch? I assume there's some way to reenter the harrowing chamber and respawn him. Is there more to it than that?

It's said that if you don't loot Uldred after killing him and you take the option to return to the Templars immediately afterwards, Uldred will continue to respawn up there.

Allison in Lothering, too, of course.

But this is not a grind game. The encounters are all set pieces, even the so-called "random" encounters. They have triggers, and do not occur in a truly random way, nor do they spawn, per se. The triggers can be avoided in some cases thus missing the encounter (for example, you have an encounter if you steal from the Dalish and are caught but not if you do not steal).

Denerim has a lot of easy board quests or you could just go do another Blight quest and come back to this afterwards as you usually gain about 2 or 3 levels with each of the main quests.

Here's a hint for the Brecilian Forest, ;particularly if you are trying to have Zathrian break the curse: have Alister use Cleansing Aura (area?) whatever it's called- the Templar ability- near where Witherfang is being held immobile. This will free him and a couple allies and they will tip the balance in your favor.

Wow. thanks for all the ideas everyone. My hope was to go up a few levels in hopes that would help me progress through the encounters but I now understand the scaling system. I will be able to move forward- I think it will take a better use of the "Tactics" feature to do so- with smarter fight instead of more frequent fighting.

Actually, you hand in 10 Elfroot at a time, which is why this method is so timeconsuming.

You can turn off auto-leveling. Well, you should be able to anyway.

Denerim can be tricky with thugs in back alleys. Its good place for getting levels and I go there after Lothering regularly, but wandering around there can be brutal at lvl 7-8 sometimes if you dont know what to expect.

Yes, but compared to the trap xp bug, you have more control over how to customize your party members' skills and talents.
