Big time cop out. How could you justify not giving closure to your main protagonist. We have played as Shepard for three games. But at the end of the game none of it ever mattered cause they just tell you to imagine your own ending. I thought they said we were gonna get closure? Oh well, I guess I'm gonna have to deal with it.
Death of a character = Closure you unbelievable moron
Whatever happened to IMAGINATION?

Ok...I definitely see what you're saying there.
However, if this didn't happen...the reapers would have completely wiped these races out.
So, while it is definitely bleak...as you say...you basically have the choice of...
...chance for a future right now...or no chance at all.
On the bright side...while we can't estimate on how fast the relays could be fixed...you could always assume it could be done "quick" now that every race is "working together".
Completely true, but when it's the very end of a trilogy - we will (presumably) never get a chance to see these characters again - leaving things as important as this to assumptions is very unacceptable.
I can imagine a happy ending with the best of them. The EC plus the breath scene gives me more than enough ammo to piece together my own reunion scenario w/o it being shown via cutscene. The red/green/blue explosions don't give you anything to go on, however, but the assumption that the ending can be summariazed thusly: "And then the Reapers died! Commander Shepard has become legend! Oh yea, and then everyone else died of starvation & alone! Probably? Buy more DLC!".
[EDIT to remove repeating myself]

How is that a sequel hook? The Reapers are gone, there's no major unresolved plot line. Relax.

Bioware is accountable of the poorness of the games ending. EA is their accountabilibuddy, which makes them accountabilibuddyable.
Yes, because it's not like you got fantastic gameplay and hours of story out of it.
No but I was lied to pre release about the nature of the ending AND about what you needed to do to achieve them (and I have a direct apology from a developer about the last one so do not try to BS me)Yate wrote...

Save the Counsel? Well they continue to ignore you!
Anderson as Counselor? Well he leaves, No consequence to that decision
The RachnI Queen? She gets captured all over again and you have to choose... AGAIN to save or kill her... Awesome!
Collector base destroyed no added benefit
Saved the collector base. Well the illusive man has it no impact on story
Rewriting the geth? Eh well they were pretty much on our side then the quarians attacked
That speech to the quarians about greater threats and not attacking? Well they attack anyways. I mean they should be able to do that, based on my choice and speech
I don't know if you think his choices from all three games being summed up as EMS points is mattering. It doesn't take much to please these days.

Casey Hudson, Claimed that you would not be able to say which ending you chose it would not be an ABC ending. That there was a possability of over 16 different endings. That all of your choices would carry over from the last game...

You complain about being spoiled and us on here whining and complaining, yet what are you doing? Spoiled? I didn't spend TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY DOLLARS to have to guess what happens to Shepard and his squad.
If I would've known that the last 15 minutes of the whole franchise that it would be turned into a coloring book where you can use whatever color you want and the picture is "unique to you", I would've head cannoned the entire 3rd game. And I guarantee you that 75% of the people on this forum could come up with a better ending than what we received.
We don't whine because we need to, or that we want to. We don't whine because we hate Mass Effect or Bioware. We whine because one of the greatest video game series of all time was absolutely MASSACRED in the last 15 minutes of the trilogy. And on top of that the developers did many things to spite their long time fans.

"Imagination" went out of the window when Bioware revealed the true purpose of the Reapers and why they harvest. It's stupid, contrived and totally ruins the whole idea of the Reapers. We didn't need to know their intentions and their reasoning, all we need to know is they're bad, and we need to stop them. It worked for two games, why not the third?
