I like black people. +1 for more black people.
Your OP seems to imply that Jacob was only included in the game because we needed a black guy in our crew or else. Tokenism isn't something to be taken lightly -- if we see more dark-skinned folks in the DA universe, it will be because we encounter cultures like Rivain or further north. And if we have a black guy or girl in our party, it will be because they're an interesting character that happens to be black -- not because we needed a black guy and that's the crux of his whole character arc.

That's true, but as far as we know, there aren't any Theodosians who would be comparable to Africans in the same way that Fereldans or Orlesians, for example, would be comparable to caucasians. The darkest people we know of are Rivaini.
Personally, I dislike tokenism. Unless there is a lore-related, narrative reason for the presence of black Theodosians, I don't think BioWare should be inclusive for the sake of inclusiveness.

Izzy and Duncan were quite interesting, I thought.

DA3 Equivalent: Boring token that died too often to be useful in combat, largest contribution was a meme

Oh of course, I wholeheartedly agree. Maybe that was the flaw with Jacob. I don't want that for this character. I want them to be a well rounded character, who just so happens to have a different skin type then what we're so used to seeing in the DA universe, at least when it comes to humans.

So in conclusion we need a black dwarf voiced by Samuel L. Jackson? Sounds good.
You make that sound like a bad thing. Quite frankly, I'd prefer him to Varric, so long as he came with a purple lightsaber called Michelle.

I really should, but.....
1. If they include "black" people (black meaning skin tones, for the sake of simplicity and a dose of international cultural sensitivity), I don't think they will have quite the same issue of "token black" that you might have in America, in the way Americans think of it. I don't perceive an Aunt Jemima or Uncle Ben screaming "oh lordy" showing up anywhere.
(since I am not from Canada, I cannot speak for Bioware, or any other culture as a whole)
2. I will accept Fereldan = South and White and For Darker People: Head North.
3. What REALLY, REALLY bothers me is the marketing. Which is pretty universally "caucasian male"
4. What IINFURIATED me was that your "legend Hawke" was white by default. Makes my black Hawkes seem less "legendary" when I go into character creator and my black skinned beauty doesn't look at all like the "hero" Varric makes me out to be.
And just doing the CC then playing the movie seems like a no brainer anyway.

I'm still obsessed with the idea that the Fog Warriors Could be Black - but then I'm kind of obsessed with Africa as a continent, and looking forward to seeing darker skintones as we move north throughout Thedas.ziloe wrote...

Still wouldn't count on it for DAIII, though - we'll visit the Tevinter Imperium and Rivain, and that will probably be about as far north as it gets.

I really, really like that idea. The fog warriors, I mean.
There's a book about mages, that was made into a short Television series. The name is lost on me, but the kid who played Iceman in the x-men movies, was the lead character. The author based the lore on african culture, every character being black. When it came to TV, the producers made everyone but the mentor, white. Frankly, that makes me quite disappointed, and I'd like to see a shift away from that mindset that everything needs to be whitewashed to appeal to an american audience.

Jacob? Anderson is black. Some of the soldiers on the Normandy are black as well; I think one has blonde hair. Shepard is black too.
That's tanned, but I get what you mean, plenty of well done black Shepards on youtube

Indeed, though, only one of them was playable, which is why I brought up Jacob. And all of them are from the ME universe. How many can you name, that are from the DA universe... who don't have blue eyes? ;P
