Nonsense. She's rather dark skinned, but her facial features are not black at all.

I'd agree with both your posts, but Gaider already stated she's black.
As is Duncan.
Apparently.

Edit:  Then again, I also always thought Antiva was the equivalent for Spain... But a lot of people say it's Italy.

That may be true, culturally.  Their skin color can still be completely arbitrary.

At least with Jacob and even Anderson, the features were appropriate.

Not all black people look like west Africans.

Also, depending who's speaking, the euphemism "black" can refer to a wide variety of people from a wide variety of regions.  There are regional and cultural difference in hiw the word is used.

You’re right. Isabela doesn’t have to have the “stereotypical” physical attributes in order to be considered black. For example, a lot of east African women have features that aren’t as closely related to the features many people more commonly associate with black people.

But then there’s Duncan. That’s two characters that are supposed to be considered black that, in all honesty, don’t share the features we’re inclined to associate with black people. Yes, it is wrong to generalize, and if this is what I come off as doing, I apologize for it is not my intent to try and fit everyone into something very specific… But what’s wrong with Jacob? Personally, I think he’s a looker. Is there something wrong with features like Jacob’s (that are more readily associated with a black person- with the west African look) that we have two [known] black characters that don’t share the more “west African look”?

Another example: I read somewhere that there’s recently been some backlash against Disney for having created a Hispanic princess with features that are more “full-on” Caucasian than your typical Hispanic’s. She has light skin, very light brown hair, and blue (or green, I can’t remember) eyes. Next you will say, well, Hispanics don't look alike- something I can completely relate to because most of my cousins look very unlike me (a Hispanic): pale/fair/light skin, blue/green eyes, super tall, etc. And while this princess doesn’t have to represent the “bulk” of the Hispanics, what’s wrong with physical attributes that are more stereotypically Hispanic (tanned skin, dark eyes/hair, on the shorter side, etc.)?

While there's also nothing wrong with going with a less "stereotypical" (and I think using this word for this) look for a character, would we love Isabela less if she had the more “west African” look? Doubtful. At least I'd hope not.

Like anyone else, I would like to see other races too, yes. But I brought up black, because that's the one I still see fairly stereotypical.
Mass Effect 3 also had James Vega. Not many people liked him, but he wasn't a bad character. Games like Assassin's Creed are bringing in a Native Americans as the main protagonist, and one of my favourite games of this year, is Sleeping Dogs, which features a Chinese American.
That said, aside from the GTA series, I've rarely seen a black lead, nor have I seen many black characters in RPGs.

And no, your player character does not count.

The Karayans from Suikoden 3 were black, including Hugo, one of the 4 main characters.

Given that they lived on a Savannah, a few hundred miles from the nearest Ocean, not so much.

The Karayans seemed much more like Native Americans to me. When I think of black people in RPGs, I think of characters like:

Harid from Romancing SaGa 3

Eluca from Chaos Rings

Lol. Black people are all over the map and cannot be characterized into any sort of cannonical "look" and furthermore, you have Latino's and Pacific Islanders who share the same skin color as Black People even though they are culturally different from them, just as Black Americans are culturally different from African's. There are some Latino's you can meet and consider them Black at face value, up until the started speaking spanish and told you otherwise. There are People in countries like Panama that look like Don Cheadu, Puerto Rico who look like Beyonce, and Brazil who look like Sanaa Lathan. So for people to expect a certain "look" for someone to be black is completely ridiculous, all beit understandable by someone who isnt very well cultured.

Well, you can't really deny there being specific features unique to their race. I think the main issue here when it comes to features is when they pick a white guy, and just add a tan, thinking that would solve the problem. I.e Sokka and his sister from The Last Airbender movie.

No, that's just whitwashing, a practice that is very much alive and well across all forms of entertainment and art. Like that white Isabela mod ... *shivers*

Oh, I'm well aware of the whitewashing practice. And though I don't agree with what they did with Isabela, I wouldn't say that it's in the same vein as with what I mentioned earlier. It's like taking Hawke, and making his preset black, without changing a thing. For me, it doesn't speak african descent, it just speaks I was in the tanning salon too long.

And yeah, I don't see the humour either.
