I really, really like that idea. The fog warriors, I mean.
There's a book about mages, that was made into a short Television series. The name is lost on me, but the kid who played Iceman in the x-men movies, was the lead character. The author based the lore on african culture, every character being black. When it came to TV, the producers made everyone but the mentor, white. Frankly, that makes me quite disappointed, and I'd like to see a shift away from that mindset that everything needs to be whitewashed to appeal to an american audience.
+1. I think that is probably where they will go with it. Hopefully. Please?!
*sigh* the story of American media. Every character needs to be white, or a stereotype. One steroetype per gang of four.
If you see the "african" stuff too (Black Panther, a superhero show, comes to mind) they either go "all Africa" (Zulu warriors with spears and loinclothes, except they, like, had large settlements equal to Europe in Zimbabwe, Mali, etc...) or they do exclusively movies about genocide and horror for easy Oscars (Blood Diamond, Hotel Rwanda, Last King of Scotland)
Edit: Didn't the marketers even white-wash a confirmed "darkskinned" Isabela? I remember Bioware saying the marketing was a mistake, but still.....

I hope in Orlais we see more diversity in color (that as a bonus looks like actual skin). I believe Orlais is closer to Rivain & Antiva, and that's where the non-white races seem to live.

The black skin options in DA2 looked horrendously shiny (not of the vampire-sparkle variety). I had to white-ify my most recent character because in 75% of the cutscenes the lighting made her look like her skin was made of wax.

Why most of my characters in DAO are either white (to match the family) or tan (because dark = purple and mottled)
DA2 was better, a bit. Though I have mods, because I play on PC, that helped me a lot.

Jacob suffered though from the boring character trait. You can have a cool character without issues that's fun to take him with you. Vega for example.
Vega was also based on a real guy, so they were already inspired. And that's one thing Bioware can be really great at, that being character development. I think if Jacob wasn't just a soldier, he could have been a lot more. They tried, and I can respect them for that, but I'd still like to see them try again.

Chasind. I always thought they brought diversity to the skin tones.
No, not really. Maybe in character creation, but that's about it.

I 100% agree. When people talk of not liking Jacob it has nothing to do with his race.

Oh, right. I remember that. I suppose I wasn't crazy about the series, so I guess I just kinda forgot about it, lol.

Also, "dark-skinned" does NOT equal Black.

White people hate talking about race. They really do.
A. Not all of "them" do. You don't know anyone's ethnicity on here (as far as I know)
B. Don't turn this into a flame thread.

As for Dragon Age 3, I don't want to see any "African" (Or whatever the Thedas equivalent would be) characters who are only there for the sake of it. I'm fine with dark skinned Rivaini companions like Isabela, and maybe if we meet some characters from countries further north then that would make sense, but it's not something that should just be done for the sake of it.
