So does dwarves and elves, it's just not a topic in Dragon Age at all.ziloe wrote...

Dragon Age has Elf/Dwarf/Human instead of Black/White/Yellow no need to drag such a silly topic into it.
Yeah, and humans come in different colours...
Mass Effect had Jacob, so...

That's because gaining an upgrade to the main cast (especially if female) comes with some.... boosts.

I don't know why black/dark skin looked so wrong in Dragon Age, when the same intended skin tone looks completely normal in Mass Effect.

I thought Isabela was meant to be black, albeit a lighter-skinned black? As anyone can establish by flipping open the character creator in DAO or DA2, the crappy skin tones are to blame for the "it's just a TAN!" thing, not the characters actual intended race. As was stated previously, Isabela's skin tone in DAO was only *one shade* lighter than the darkest option.

Afaik the people with the darkest skin in Thedas are the hispanic or latin american looking Rivaini. Without the exploration of continents further north and the possible discovery of dark skinned humans, we won't get the really black aka african skin colours the OP seems to want.

Because they had completely different engines. Dragon Age was made with Eclipse, and Mass Effect with Unreal. The Eclipse engine couldn't render dark skin very well. The darker the skin, the more it started to look like an overcompressed jpeg with jagged, pixelated lines where gradations of color occurred. We are hopeful that we can have a much wider range of skin colors (particularly darker ones) in Inquisition thanks to Frostbite.

Good luck with that. I know a lot of engines have difficulty rendering realistic dark skin tones.

Can't wait to see what you guys can do with character creation.
I know Battlefield 3 has a lot of black skins in the game and it looks great.
