So after witnessing Origin crash and burn again today, I've decided to bring this up again.

BW, for the love of all that is good, release DA3 to Steam or drop the Origin requirment.

The last thing I want to do is fight with a terrible third party service just so I can play a SP game.

And if you need a third party service, use that one that has been prven to actually work.

I don't think that's gonna happen... Steam and EA aren't exactly friends...

Days BW releases anything are long gone. Where and how DA3 is sold is up to EA.

+1, but it's unlikely to happen. Then again, the Internet in all its terrible ingenuity usually corrects for bad DRM.

The Origin client works fine for me, it is not a resource hog, low memory footprint and the download speed is equivalent to, sometimes faster than Steam.

However, it lacks some important features, like achievements, screenshot capture and sharing, tracking time played for each game, groups, etc.

I have also encountered some significant problems with the Origin store page. Mainly, it very hard to find any game or DLC you are looking for that is not already on the first page, and it is impossible to buy DLC for some EA games on the Origin store. (For example, DA2 DLC cannot be purchased on Origin)

Origin Client seems to work well for me but I don't appreciate having to log on just to play a game and its' dlc's, that have already been verified previously. I shouldn't have to go online repeatedly to play a single player game.

I can see the need for constant online access becoming a nightmare when I'm way off the grid somewhere when I start to travel the country and I want to relax by playing a game.

Edit: I do not use steam and have no interest in using it. And since the majority of the games I play on the pc are EA games I don't think totally changing their system would be a good thing.

I don't have a huge problem with origin, but I hate that it now opens an origin window when I open a game which I have to close separately afterwards ... I know Steam does it too as a default (but you can turn it off with a little effort) but at least they do it to show some news.

Origin just opens that window just to remind you, hey ... I'm still here, and I hate it for it.

I don't quite understand. You are not able to play Origin games offline?

I've been able to play DA2, ME3 and ME2 through the Origin client in offline mode, with no Internet access, and no problems at all.

Obviously, you won't be able to play ME3 multiplayer in offline mode, but there should be no problem playing the single player.

Last time I tried playing ME3 offline it said that I couldn't use DLC. Want to guess whether I went on to play?

What did Origin do today?

I can't complain too much about Origin since they had a fire sale of any game under $20 going for the low low price of free a week or two ago.

That said, it is inferior to Steam in most regards and I'd prefer that at minimum DA3 only require it for initial activation. Ideally it would be available on Steam as well since Steam just provides a far superior service and storefront.

I can tell you right now with relative certainty: DA3 won't be on Steam, and will require Origin for PC.

It's all in EA's recent amendments. They may have never spelled it out explicitly, but that doesn't change how their plans are going.

Origin's crappy server is the major reason I quit playing ME3's MP right now, other than that, I do not have any complaint about it.

I am unable to play ME3 game saves that have DLC content offline, without first going online because ME3 wants the dlc verified and you can't do that without online access. You would think that once it verified it once that should be enough, but it has not worked that way, so a week without internet left me a week without ME3 unless I started a new game without the dlc content.

This made me very grumpy.

Really? I don't have any DLC, so I haven't seen that requirement, but it seems like a horrible design flaw. If you pay for DLC and buy it from Origin, it should really be verified for offline play the same way your base game is.

It's crazy how many hurdles are in place to prevent you from buying and using DLC for EA/Origin games. For DA2, for example, I pre-ordered DA2 on Steam and was considering buying Legacy DLC or Mark of the Assassin, since last year; however, despite waiting, they have never become available on Steam.

- I contacted the Origin tech support and was told I should use my Steam product key to download the game via Origin, and then I could click "shop for add-ons."

- I did so; however, even after adding DA2 to my Origin library and downloading the game again, I still cannot buy any of the DLC on Origin. There is no "shop for add ons" button for DA2.

- Contacted Origin tech support again and was told I needed to go to social.bioware.com to purchase DLC for this game. I didn't see any convenient store front to puchase the DLC, but was instructed to select the "Games" drop down menu, then DA2, then Official DLC.

- Then I learned that you can't simply buy the DLC directly using your credit card. Instead, you must buy 1600 Bioware points and if you buy something you will end up with leftover points.

The entire experience was very frustrating and left me with no further interest in attempting to buy this DLC. If they make it available on Origin in the future to buy directly using a credit card, I might consider it, but I have no interest in purchasing any "Bioware points," especially if the DLC cannot be played in offline mode. The Origin tech support rep recommended buying the DLC at Wal-mart, but I don't have any optical disc drive in my laptop, so I can only buy digital downloads.

It's difficult to understand the reasoning behind why EA has made it so complicated for PC users to buy DLC for certain games, like DA2.  Perhaps the process is more simple for people who own the Xbox or PS3 versions.

There are many potential PC customers who are not constantly online, or travel and play games on their laptops, etc. If you can't play offline with the DLC, the value of that DLC is reduced significantly. It would seriously make me consider not buying any DLC.

In comparison, buying DLC on Steam is a completely hassle-free experience. It's very easy to find any DLC you are looking for, click once to add to cart and then check out. The prices are in dollars, not "points," and you can play any game in offline mode, including all the DLC.

DA3 can sell less on Origin than Steam and EA would still see more profit on Origin. So, I wouldn't get my hopes up.

$60 straight to EA/dev on Origin(small overhead on things like maintaining Origin)>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>$30 selling to retail(more overhead) or pushing it on another DD service

This is of concern to me because I know I'll be on the road with spotty internet access when DAIII comes out. So I would at least appreciate there being a one time only verification process, so that even when I can't go online I can still enjoy the things I've paid for. I paid for the dlc, it was verified, don't mess with me by making me use resources (internet) everytime I want to enjoy a game.

Lack of Origin would be nice.

I can pretty much guarantee that DA3 will not be on Steam. Bearing in mind that DA2 has been removed from it.

Obviously I may very well be wrong, but I do not believe that I will be.

Yes, almost certainly DA3 will be an Origin exclusive game for PC users.

I just hope that by the time DA3 is released in Q4 2013, EA will have ironed out some of the kinks with Origin, such as making it very simple and easy to buy DLC (in dollars, not "points"), allowing you to play DLC in offline mode and perhaps even adding screenshots, achievements, etc. to their client functionality.

After dealing with the completely crappy ME3 servers and Origins incredibly bad GUI, I can say that Origin sucks for me, and Steam is miles better.

If they make it Origin only, I'm just going to work around it.
