It would be cool to have a "grey" antagonist. A respectful rival, perhaps even a old friend from the past who just happens to disagree with you.

I think it would really cool to have Hawke play this sort of role, allowing for variables such as where Hawke's sympathies lay in the previous game (Mage or Templar). That way it's more than a cameo appearance and can be tied into an important secondary questline or even the main plot. It would be cool to see customized Hawkes show up in this sort of role.

I believe this would be a good and interesting way in which save file transfers can be used to enhance our gaming experience.

P.S. I am not suggesting that Hawke be the BIG BAD, BTW.

Didn't someone do that least year in some other game?

Play against the good guy from game 1 and no one liked it.
Well, I don't want to alter aything I played previously, maybe if it hadn't been an rpg I woul dhave agreed.

That's not a bad idea at all. I'd rather eschew the bat**** insane antagonists. I'd like someone like The Illusive Man...someone whose motives you can understand, even if you don't agree with the methods. (Or maybe you do). I think it makes a better impact than just having someone who is "evil" and frothing at the mouth.

Evil doesn't also have to be crazy. You can be evil, do evil things, have evil motivations, but still go about it in a cold, logical manner.

I prefer a baddie I can hate. Whether it be for personal reasons (he did something to me or my loved ones), or just because he is a malicious SOB who should be eliminated. I've had enough of their attempts to be gray, where the grayness was thrown out the window in the end.

exactly. for added bonus, make him/her untouchable whether because of the situation, or because of his/her status (eg. someone with very high political standing). the fact that he knows he can do whatever horrible thing he does and get to walk away unscathed can really send the player/pc to a boiling point.

whether karma catches up to such an antagonist or not is dependent on what BW wanna write. though the latter may cause a different kind of rage in the gaming community.

Just because it didn't work in one game doesn't mean it won't work in another. It all depends on how it's handled.

Hawke is never evil, IMHO, at most brutally pragmatic and/or callous. I wouldn't expect a complete Face-Heel Turn were the character to appear in the type of role I am suggesting; I did say I didn't like the idea of Hawke as a BIG BAD, after all.

Another reason that I'm putting the idea out there is that it would be a way for choosing sides (Mage or Templar) in Dragon Age II to have tangible consequences in DA III. Many of us BioWare fans do like to go on about choices that matter and replay value and the like.

Are you referring to Prototype 2 by any chance? It received a score of 74 out of 100 on Metacritic, so it can't have been that badly hated, although if you are referring to just the protagonist in game one is a bad guy in game two, you might have a point, but you're making statements without anything back it up.
