Please Bioware give us a combat system that looks real like in DAO. Sure you can do it like in DAII without the stupid ninja ****. I mean I loose the sense of realism when in DAII a common thug can move like a freaking karate master. The whole game becomes infuriating with Varric giving the enemy a shower of arrows that do almost no damage from a single crossbow. Make it like DAO not like DAII. Further more I could stand a Kingdoms of Amalur combat, but I would love a Witcher 2 like combat.

No. I nearly died of boredom when I tried to replay DAO because the combat was so bloody monotonous. I liked DA2 style a lot more.

I would take DA2 combat over DAO anyday. I think it would be best to find a middle ground because DA2 was to over the top, and DAO was just bad imo.

First three posts made the thread here really:
- I want DAO combat!
- I want DA2 combat!
- Can we have the best of both worlds please?

If only all topics were like this.

Common ground between both games please, most enemies won't be able to move like kung fu masters but I would appreciate it if my character did! I also liked DA2 combat better, it broke the staleness of a game with this style of play. Maybe a little bit slower paced combat...my main beef with this game is it moves way too damn fast when not pausing, and I badly want to be able to play on nightmare without pausing and issuing orders, the whole game flows when not pausing but it's so damn difficult on nightmare!

There are already enough RPGs with this approach. I loved The Witcher 2, but DA needs to find its balance and, most importantly, keep its own style.
There are not enough party-based games on the market right now.

Anyway, I personally preferred DA2's combat style: it was over the top and the waves were annoying, but at least I found it entertaining and challenging on Hard/Nightmare.

sorry to say but realistic combat tends to be quite boring x) A -BIT- of flashyness never hurts, too much and we are steping far too much into animeterritory O_O

How? DA2's combat was way more boring, in my humble opinion. There was no thinking involved, no planning, just trying to do as much damage as you can, especially for mages, who should just specialise in area of effect spells to kill everything in seconds. And the times you did lose, it was because of the wave system, and not because you had done the battle poorly. You can't predict Saarebas spawning on top of you.

DA:O on the other hand, requires me to think and sometimes even to retreat. Even more so now that I have Combat Tweaks installed.

Just a quick post in support of the OP. I loathed the flashy combat animations of DA2 and would love to see things toned down for Inquisition.

I loved the combat in Origins. Didn't really care for the combat in 2 but I liked it best when playing as a rogue. I am not liking it too much as a warrior and I did not like it as a mage. I hated how when my mage was doing her basic attack she was swining her wand all fast and looking like she was trying to be cool lol.

Yes BioWare. Make animation faster like in ME3 compared to ME2. But use Origins animation as an exemple. I litteraly died inside while playing DAII and even lower the difficulty to casual because after half the game I was just bored of the craptastic JRP ninja and whatnot animation and wanted to cut the length of the spawn mess.

I preferred the faster pace of DA2 as Origin's combat was just a chore and after a few playthroughs really dull. Though in fairness I could do without people exploding in half because they were stabbed. A middle ground seems fair enough to me.

God did I hate the animation of DA2.

I loved the animation of DAO - found the combat much more enjoyable to watch.

I did like the DA2 combat and found the tactical settings easier to engage, but that animation, art style and Hawkes shoulder cam wiped out the positives and then some.

Dragon age Origins combat was okay but the mage animation put me off everytime.(seriously the only thing that my mage can do is poke. It was so god damn irritating). The Dragon age 2 combat was a bit outrageous. Both Combat systems were flawed i would like the best of both rather than throwing out a whole concept completely

Well, this. They could slow down it a bit and make sure that the characters aren't doing insane backflips that shouldn't be possible, but  aside from that I don't really care for how slow DA: O's combat was.

"Give us realistic looking combat"

>Realistic
Pick one, seriously.

I just want them to keep the combat strategic, not so slow paced as DA:O where every sword swing looked lazy, reminding me of Runescape. DA2 at least put some impact to every strike you made.

You must mean the other way around, as DA][ felt like i was not hitting at all, just swinging like a madman without impact, as opposed to DA:O, where every attack counted, EVEN as a rogue.

Which game did you play first if I may ask, imo people who played DAII first often didn't enjoy DA:O at all, expecting an action game like DAII.

I have been playing DAO the last two weeks and what surprised me is how difficult combat is compared to DA2. DA2 combat is like a baby game compared to DAO combat.

I like DA2 combat but no thinking is required to fight, in DAO if you don’t plan your fight and go in with your eyes shut you will be dead.

I do like the avoidance of getting hit in DA2 as in DA1 you will get hit wherever you are standing so it is a waste of time trying to escape a hit so i hope they use both the old and new combat to make it better.

Pretty much, though I wouldn't say DAO was bad, just too slow paced.

The pace of DA2, but without Power Ranger Putty Patrol Darkspawn that explode in a mess of blood and gore when you so much as poke them - that would be ace.

This. I enjoyed, to some degree at least, combat in both games. My complaint with DAO is that everything, from greatswords to daggers, was way too slow, and that often made for boring and sometimes mindless combat.

DA2 is extremely faced paced, which was more engaging but was also mindless. It wasn't until I started replaying recently that I also noticed how much wave combat there was in this game. It was present in a few situations in DAO, but holy crap people!

I think if they toned down some of the speed from DA2 and added a sense of weight to the attacks, we'd be pretty solid.

I also want the finishing moves back in the game as it is great watching my rogue chop heads of in DAO.

DA:O combat bored me to tears, had to force myself to finish the game at several separate instances. Also, never did play anything other than a mage, just couldn't stand the clunkiness of it. DA2 can be toned down but it was fun. Also, not being able to predict this and that doesn't make an encounter bad, it just makes you think on your feet. Furthermore, I really don't know how people can go on about "realistic" in a world of dragons and sorcery...

I think there's a difference between expecting the game world to work like ours does, where we don't have dragons and magic, and expecting a level of realism with the way weapons are handled. After all, these people are human, and appear very similar to us...it would be logical to assume that we can expect some of the same rules to apply, while allowing for some flourish to make things more interesting than real life.

DA2's combat looked so ridiculous it was embarrassing to play.
