DA2's combat looked so ridiculous it was embarrassing to play.

I feel sorry for spartans if that was how they used to fight.

DA:O's combat was NOT "realistic". You just think it was because it falls in line with the medieval combat you've seen in other media, which is also not realistic.

I have no probelm with DA2's combat. I prefer it, even.

Go to Iraq or Afghanistan if you want realistic combat. Because you're not getting it from any game any time soon.

DA:O combat bored me to tears, had to force myself to finish the game at several separate instances. Also, never did play anything other than a mage, just couldn't stand the clunkiness of it. DA2 can be toned down but it was fun. Also, not being able to predict this and that doesn't make an encounter bad, it just makes you think on your feet. Furthermore, I really don't know how people can go on about "realistic" in a world of dragons and sorcery...

I think there's a difference between expecting the game world to work like ours does, where we don't have dragons and magic, and expecting a level of realism with the way weapons are handled. After all, these people are human, and appear very similar to us...it would be logical to assume that we can expect some of the same rules to apply, while allowing for some flourish to make things more interesting than real life.

I just find it hard to grasp how one is willing to suspend disbelief for something like magic yet manages to find gripes with something as minute as weapons swinging too fast or being a bit exagerated.

Wow, consider that being rude is not such a good way to prove your point, maybe?

No. I nearly died of boredom when I tried to replay DAO because the combat was so bloody monotonous. I liked DA2 style a lot more.

How? DA2's combat was way more boring, in my humble opinion. There was no thinking involved, no planning,

Yeah there was if you played on nightmare.

So we must go the highest difficulty to make the player think?

What the hell?

It's all about immersion and perception. The way magic works in this world makes sense, at least as much as magic can, and so few people have gripes with that or the general fantasy setting. In fact, I don't think anyone thinks of a fantasy setting that doesn't contain some bit of magic or supernatural otherness. For these games, combat takes up a pretty decent portion of gameplay, so that is where many people are going to lodge complaints. If it's too slow, it's boring and breaks immersion. If it's too fast paced and mindless, it also breaks immersion. I personally prefer DA2 combat in general, but I will concede that rogue animations were a bit too fast, and sometimes made me feel like my character was on PCP.

You might just also want to consider that other people have opinions that are not yours, so instead of trying to figure it out, or prove them wrong in some way, you can just accept it.

It usually goes that way when you don't have anything proper to say :).

Bioware at PAX said it will be a strategic combat with faster elements.

Please Bioware give us a combat system that looks real like in DAO. Sure you can do it like in DAII without the stupid ninja ****. I mean I loose the sense of realism when in DAII a common thug can move like a freaking karate master. The whole game becomes infuriating with Varric giving the enemy a shower of arrows that do almost no damage from a single crossbow. Make it like DAO not like DAII. Further more I could stand a Kingdoms of Amalur combat, but I would love a Witcher 2 like combat.

Wait, you mean like how a back alley thug could shoot my entire party with one crossbow bolt?
Or how my character could hit multiple foes with a single piroette because he used 2 swords?
Wait, the two hander causes a tremor when he hits the ground?
Or how Allistair could not take a swing at a foes running by him because he didn't have the proper "angle" shuffled up to do it?

..and please no on TW2's combat which is just a version of AC's timing based reactive combat.

Pick one, seriously.

I just want them to keep the combat strategic, not so slow paced as DA:O where every sword swing looked lazy, reminding me of Runescape. DA2 at least put some impact to every strike you made.

You must mean the other way around, as DA][ felt like i was not hitting at all, just swinging like a madman without impact, as opposed to DA:O, where every attack counted, EVEN as a rogue.

Which game did you play first if I may ask, imo people who played DAII first often didn't enjoy DA:O at all, expecting an action game like DAII.

No, I did not mean them to be other way around :p

I played DA:O first, and I do enjoy it. I just prefer DA2's combat over DA:O's, especially as a mage.

To be fair, the same thing was true for DAO. At lower difficulties (Easy and Normal) the game wasn't difficult at all and didn't require much thinking: you just had to balance your party and sometimes give a little imput.
Hard and Nightmare were something else and did require some planning. Playing on consoles also made the game much more difficult than on PC, but that's another matter.

All i want is for the combat to not be as ridiculous as DA2's. When Hawke swing a two-handed sword like it was made out of cardboard then i'm just shaking my head at it. The combat doesn't need to be like DAO but less ridiculous is for me welcome

On the other hand nightmare on DA:O didn't even require thinking. Nightmare Harvester from GoA? I had three Wardens who aside from the mechanics of hitting a switch every once in a while, were able to faceroll through it with autoattack.

Nah. Realism is overrated. Acrobatics to the win - particularly mages' battle piruettes!

Also, please keep CCCs, they made playing a lot more fun! Love it when I can smash something that's Brittle and see the enemy's heath bar practically disappear in one go (particularly if they're Revenants).

DAO is way better, because it is more realistic. Nobody can swing a heavy sword like a knife (you can't even swing a normal sword for very long if you are trained) or jump like a bouncy ball.
If you look at the guys at medieval performances or spectacles it looks similar to Origins speed wise.

And the rapid fire mages in DA2 look also dumb.
