While it isn't a strong gun I admit I didn't find it as horrible as everyone else does. I used it as level 10 with a topped out smart choke and high velocity barrel, level 4 shotgun permanent gear amp. My character was always spec'd for weapon damage. I always aim for the head when I play, Played on it from bronze to gold levels. On gold headshots would kill all the weaker enemies on the first shot and if they had shields or barriers it just took 2 head shots on guys like marauders, nemesis, rocket troopers, pyros, captains, etc. It only took me maybe 5 games to get the shotgun challenge completed with it (admittedly I did a solo bronze run with it to pad it a bit).

I wouldn't mind a buff on it but given how light it is I didn't think it was bad at all and this was the last gun I did on the challenge.

Now compare it to the Piranha. Both are Gold level shotguns.

Maybe that's why there's so few Justicars, their shotguns couldn't kill raiding Pyjaks :P

Yes.
No.
No.
Maybe.
Yes.

Instead of a fast RoF, though, I'd prefer a quicker reload animation.

I heartly like the disciple.
As a matter of fact i try to use it on most of my vanguards to a degree, but only when i pug, when i play with friends its really hard to keep up with the damage they can dish out when holding wraith's, piranha's, gps's, or other shotguns, i wont even comment on how it performs compared with pistols or smgs with ULM. On that situation i usually switch to either a wraith or a piranha to keep up with the DPS.

I would like it to get a buff regarding damage and a more consistent stagger effect, i think RoF, accuracy, encumbrance and reloading speed are fine. (reloading speed is fine as long as you reload cancel XD )

Bottom line.

Signed. Buff the disciple!

Pretty sure it staggers, but that's beside the point -- it does balls for damage. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't expect it to be as good as a UR, but the Talon is:

-More than 50% better burst DPS against health
-Even more superior burst DPS against armor due to higher per-shot damage
-125% better burst DPS against shields and barriers
-Still more superior in terms of sustained DPS
-More accurate
-Can carry an extended clip
-Weighs only 10% more

Seriously, the Disciple is an embarrassment. And don't give that "it's light!" crap -- powers take such a huge backseat to weapons that carrying a light weapon that is so vastly inferior to the heavy one is a fool's errand.

I agree. It needs a damage increase or a better stagger probability.

I joined a gold match (Though searching for Bronze) with a Disciple and a Shuriken.

Was that gun ever brutal on Gold. Ouch....

I brought it to Platinum to get my shotgun mastery done faster. Oh god, never again. Emptying clips after clips on a Phantom, barely scratching its health, gets tiring quickly. And that was with aiming for the head.

Buff it BioWare.

I did this on Gold with the Katana on the prenerf Destroyer... I am stuck at 37% on Katana challenge and shudder every time I check the list.

About the Disciple. I have always liked this gun the way it is, but I really feel a need to finally agree with Air Quotes on something, so:

+1

I'm actually seeing the Disciple more than ever these days, but solely due to it beng lightweight and thus capable of strapping on the omni-blade with no penalty to CD. It's the ideal weapon for builds that are focused on powers and melees.

This would be alright, but the case is that the Piranha is both lightweight (lighter than most shotguns), and high DPS. The Disciple is just a little bit more lightweight with low DPS.

I'm thinking faster RoF and reload rate would make it more worthwhile. Or even perhaps make it so light that it effectively turns into a "side-shotgun"

The Katana doesnt really need a buff, its just a starting weapon, the eviscerator and scimatar could do with a bit of a  buff but they are still only uncommon. As was pointed out the Disciple is a gold shotgun like the Pirahna and I know which I would take. The Claymore, GPS, AT -12 and Pirahana all out class the Disciple (not including the Reegar and Graal which although listed as shotties don't function quite the same way). If it was as nice as I find the Wraith to play with then I'd definitely use it more often.

I was actually SHOCKED when I pulled the trigger and the husk didn't fall over dead...I killed the Canibal with charge, then aimed at the husk...fired...and had to fire AGAIN, at point blank range!
EDIT: AND I was using the Shotgun Amp V gear...

The Disciple has never been much for dealing damage, but it used to reliably stagger almost all enemies. That made it somewhat effective, and you'd see Krogaurds running around with it even. So many enemies have since gotten so many buffs and additional resistances to staggering that the gun is now practically useless.

Scimitar's real problem is that Eviscerator's buff a while ago to the weight makes the Scimitar totally useless. Eviscerator does more damage having smaller clip but far lighter, so Scimitar doesn't have a niche.

Disciple is terrible. I suppose giving it 100% stagger is out of the question, but if it did that I'd use it all the time.
