You can stagger it though, i like this idea better then just plain damage, a gun with a huge amount of force would be pretty fun, balanced and awesome.Gamemako wrote...

instead of simply buffing damage (which is boring) I'd like to see them add some force (500N if all pellets hit ??) to the gun. Thus, when shooting a husk the damage might not kill them, but you will get to watch them fly across the map.
That way the Disiple has a unique mechanic that might make picking it up worthwhile (especially against cerberus)
While that's a hilarious idea, it would probably require a patch since no weapons apply a direct ragdoll like that right now.
Damage buffs may be boring, but they're pretty much all you got. Also, I doubt anyone would bother with the Disciple even if it did have funny ragdoll effects. You can't ragdoll a Praetorian.

A lot of things can't be staggered. I would take a damage modifier against shields/barriers. More useful.

The questions is - why can't they edit damage modifiers vs certain defenses trough balance changes? Such a fail.
They probably just didn't plan on that being significant balance mechanic. The only release weapon with a bonus is the Talon.
I would have to guess that they didn't plan on the amount and magnitude of changes that have occurred, either. The Disciple is the only unchanged rare-level weapon. How odd is that?

It's the ONLY unchanged weapon. Well together with the Valiant. But Valiant was good and still is good.

most things can, besides it's also a pretty light weapon, a talon or hurricane could be taken along for bosses, besides the shield, barrier modifications are already done by enough other guns, maybe armour modifacations.Air Quotes wrote...

It's supposed to stagger protected enemies. That was the whole point of the gun. It's designed to be a shotgun for Adepts and Vanguards, light to keep cooldowns low and able to stagger enemies to keep them from trashing you while you're recharging. It now performs neither of these functions well.Lamiaaa wrote...
the perfect way to balance it is to let it stagger protected enemies, it doesn't need damage or anything, just give it that
also with the new omni blade it theoretically benefits the sword users and paladin and other power/melee classes I'd say

It would maintain its current niche of being a biotics or 'caster' shottie, warrant its rare drop-rate, give novaguards a reason to take shockwave, and generally invigorate all the Biotic classes that cannot self-detonate. Finally, it is a very lore-friendly solution. I mean, if asari weapons are supposed to be so awesome, and the acolyte IS, then why not something like this?
And indirectly, give Justicars a pseudo-racial boost by changing their weapon bonus from ARs to shotguns. A damage specced sphere should draw baddies clown anyway, no?
ETA: " prime and/or detonate"

Like the Kishock?
But seriously, the Disciple is a pathetic weapon for a rare. I loved it early on, but it's useless today since it does so little damage against buffed enemies and the stagger is unreliable.

Bump. Please buff the Disciple. It's pathetic and undeserving of it's rare Status. Alternatively, give me back the 10 Gold Cards that I wasted upgrading this weapon.

I do still use the disciple on some characters but only because it's so light. It tends to be characters so powers based i don't actually pull the trigger that often. Yes a buff would be soooo nice.
it's actually what it's meant to be
problem is that you have 150 other weapons that largely outclass it in this regard
