As we lose players, and I know that is going to happen no matter what, it is becoming an epidemic that if I queue for any type of match I risk a substantial chance of ending up in a match in progress.
I don't mind the system being in the game, I understand some people may not want to wait for a 3rd or 4th Player, but I do not understand why there is no opt out option. I don't want to be forced into a game, especially since it seems like most of the people hosting these shorthanded games have terrible connections or are basically using the game as a test game for a new class combo. I cannot ask the host in lobby where they are from to see if they likely have a good connection to mine, nor can I see what class or loadout they have.
There was a brief influx of people with the DLC that allowed me to game with friends, but they are not a guarantee. I don't care to host myself because I am impatient. So that leaves me with a random pug. Over the last two nights, I have managed to find one lobby game and the rest were straight into a game mid match. Most of those matches I either end up carrying the team or quitting in disgust, and the bulk of them are lagfests to end all lagfests. I literally have to hope I am hitting wherever the target is going to be when my computer updates from the host.
In any case, I beg you to put a checkbox on the screen to give us the option to not join a game in progress. If you do not want to do that, add a region option so I can at least have a semi decent chance of ending up in a game that doesn't look like stop motion animation.
The one thing that is making me reconsider my addiction to this game

Yeah... I'm afraid to join randoms anymore... Joined a horrible one today. Just silver. Everyone kept going down and I honestly had no idea how they could go down that much. We get back to the lobby and 2 of them are level 7. Meaning they were level 1 when the match started... The other one was an N7 like 7000 level 20 destroyer and I have no possible clue how they made it that high with how many times they went down that match. Maybe I'll just give him the benefit of the doubt and notch it up to connection or someone else playing for him.

I hate being put into a game in progress that on the last set of waves, and earning bugger all for it.
But for me (PC) I rarely get put in to game that's in progress.

I agree that getting put in mid game sucks, sometimes. You kinda have to think about the other people in the game that you are joining as well.
On the topic of lag, I have yet to see anything that bad. I have crappy net, live in Australia (far from most hosts), Worst I have had is 2 seconds 'bullet lag' everything else moved fine, and that only happened once and is by far the worst I have experienced, it was still even playable.

Totally agree. It's pretty annoying to be put in a game in progress. Most of the times it turns out to be bad coz of all the reasons listed by the OP. They need to provide a filter for this.

Yea, it is bad, just joined a geth round on saturday (gold). While i connected I heard the squad just died. When i finally joined the game, I was surrounded by enemies, it did cost me 4 medicals and 3 cobras to get rid of the situation.
When the round was finished, i recognized, it was already wave 9. Means, i didn't get much credits out of this match, because i just earned money for round 10 and the exfil.-money.
This just sucks, same as all the disconnects.
I am not a consumables saver, but if such things happen, i get pissed off.

Joined a Gold game on FB:W vs. cerberus with only one player in it. He was down and it was wave 2. I killed the last three troppers, two others joined, we finished the game to extraction. it isn´t always that bad, but an opt out option might not hurt.

If you don't want to join mid-game just quit whenever it happens and you will find a lobby eventually. There's no penalty for just dropping back out and if you are in that much of a rush to go kill something joining in progress should be the ideal situation for you.
I don't mind it myself. Sometimes I hope for it so I don't have to wait while people play with weapon/character selections lobby side. Just make sure you only put ammo buffs etc... on after joining lobbies unless you don't mind losing them by getting thrown in to a desperate situation, which can happen when you get put in a match in progress.
It's also kinda fun trying to figure out which characters/classes are in the game with you and what they are all using after joining. Or the thrill of coming to the rescue by spawning in and saving two people pinned in a corner by coming up behind the enemy and catching them in a crossfire.

I don't mind joining in-progress so much, but only if it's before wave 3. The last few days I had a couple of times where I joined on wave 11, what's the point of that?

You added me on Origin awhile ago, still haven't played with ya. That could be a way to alleviate boredom, atleast temporarily. :v

People nowadays START Gold/Plat games solo because their Nranks is so low, they would get kicked out of a Lobby. That's the trick....

Joined a Krosent (or was it a soldier, i dunno) recently who was one-manning the first wave against reapers on White. By wave 2, another 2 people joined - a Fury and, i think, a human Engineer. The game went smooth as butter, full extraction in just over 20 min and hardly any accidents. Everyone knew what they were doing. Same day, another game in progress, Condor collectors, and I played the Ghost again. Again got thrown in mid wave i, and even before i fully loaded - "Squad member down!". Indeed there were two of them dead already, and the 3rd one went down as i was trying to get my bearings in the landing zone. I did the prudent thing and turned tail.
In other words, depends on how the dice rolls.

I once joined a game in progress where it was wave three on Ghost Hazard. I could hear something shooting at me, and when I spawned, I was in the LZ and a Cannibal was shooting at me, but damaging my health and not my shields. I had full shields had two bars of health, and I murdered the cannibal, and then all my health inexplicably returned.
Also it was a hack the 4 objectives and the other three players were dead. Rest of the game was not good.

Interesting thing that happened today: while the game was still showing the loading screen, I was already hearing multiple "team mate needs help" calls. The loading took so long, that they managed to get a mission failed before I entered the mission.
This was on wave 2, silver difficulty. I probably could've carried them, if only the game had loaded faster.

I knew from the beta days that without pinging game rooms (designated servers) this would not end well.
in fact thats the reason why I stopped for 5 months in the middle. the lag is such bs and I shouldn't have to deal with it.
luckily I got some good folks on my list and never have to do another pug match.
the lag, is the biggest problem for me. I am from asia so you can get the picture how ****ty it is if the game connected me to russia or congo or some northern part of europe.
will never purchase another game without designated servers. sure we can all compensate with it, but I just call bs and dont want to deal with it. not our problem.
origin also needs some major work. it's nothing bioware could do I understand but sooner or later they'll need to step up their game.
op if you're really not feeling it with the game, take a rest from it.
much other things to do in life. hell, even much more other games are out there.

I, too, have been wishing for the option of not joining in-progress games for a long time now.
Anyway, OP, if it bothers you like it does to me, then just quit every in-progress game you're put into. I even quit those in which I see "wave 1" as soon as I enter. Sooner or later, you're bound to find a lobby

It is... but eventually, you'll make new friends doing it that way. Every now and then... you actually find a good lobby.
There have been times where I just quit every lobby I got dropped in until I saw what I thought were good players. I met Immortal Strife that way, Payne Trayne, my good buddy Kocka, and many more.
It pretty much boils down to the fact that you're going to have to replace your old friends with new ones... and in some cases, find a talented player who doesn't know crap about the game and coach 'em up. I'm not a great player by any stretch of the imagination... but a bunch of people in my circle of friends act like I'm some wise old sage... (thanks BSN).
